Chapter 14

What the hell do I even do with $10,000? I mean, I can get my car fixed. I could get some new clothes and things for my apartment now that I don’t have a roommate anymore. Uh, I can pay up the rent for a month or two not that I pay that much anyways. The landlord is this rich guy who doesn’t exactly need the money but, likes renovating buildings and renting them out. I’m sure Ronan could buy this whole building if he wanted to.

While making a mental list of all the things I could spend this money on, I put it away and walk to the bathroom to get ready for work. I honestly don’t feel like going with what all has been going on. The crazy dude at work and Blaire moving out has seriously stressed me out a little. I know I’ll get over Blaire, but the guy or any other crazy customer could be lurking around the bar. That is always one of my biggest worries. It only takes me cutting off someone’s drinks for this to get pissed and wait around for me. I’ve contemplated purchasing a gun, but I just can’t see myself carrying it around in my bag. I may have to reconsider it though.

As I’m taking a hot shower, I think about the fact that I just lost a whole friend because of a guy. I will never understand why Blaire acted the way she did. I thought we were good, but I guess not. I wonder what Ronan’s going to think when I tell him I basically kicked her out because, from her reaction, I think she was bluffing. I’m sure she thought I was going to beg her to stay. She was sadly mistaken. I could look for another roommate but, why should I? Hell, it’s about time I have this place to myself. Now, Ronan can come over without anyone here to gawk or complain.

I get out the shower a little while later and while I’m wrapped in a towel, I go through my clothes in search of something to wear for work. I go with a pair of skinny jeans and a work shirt. Nothing fancy. I’m not in the mood to do anything with my hair so when it’s somewhat dry, I put in two French braids.

The closer to my shift, the more I don’t want to do. I’d rather lay on the couch and eat pizza but, duty calls.

With Blaire gone, I, unfortunately, don’t have anyone to make me nice healthy lunches so I grab a banana and peach before heading out the door. Dang, is too late to tell her to come back?

I arrive at work, hungry and unenthused, around 10 minutes early. People are sitting around eating lunch as I tie my apron around my waist to start serving. I try to block out my distaste for being here by putting on a fake smile but, on the inside, I’m just ready for it to be 1am already.

I also can’t wait to talk to Ronan. After spending the morning with him, I realized just how much I’m attracted to him. As I’m serving drinks, all I can think about is getting a break so I can talk to him about my day. I also just want to know what he’s up to. It’s funny how before all of this, I didn’t want much to do with him, but I’m glad I followed my gut with him. He’s nice and well, I might as well acknowledge the fact that he’s wealthy. If his time can benefit me financially then it’s a plus.

Halfway through my shift, it picks up and I focus on work more than anything. Surprisingly, it flies by and before I know it, I only have an hour left before I get to go home. As the last few patrons linger, I count my register and help clean up. I haven’t gotten any texts or calls from Ronan but, he probably respects that I’m at work.

“Hey, Lina.” One loyal customer calls for me at the end of the bar.

I walk down to him and lean on the bar.

“What’s up, Harold?”

“How have you been doing? You seem off tonight.” He drinks his whiskey as I shrug. Harold has been coming here for as long as I’ve been working here. He’s an older guy who comes here once a week for guys night and longers after to watch sports highlights.

“I had a rough day. I’m just ready to go home.” I make a face and he laughs.

“I understand. Well, when you’re ready to go, I’ll walk you out. I heard what happened last night. Gotta keep you safe, little lady.”

I smile for the first time today.

“Thank you, Harold. You’re too sweet. Your wife is lucky.”

He smiles and looks down at his ring. He was a widow but, remarried a few months ago to a nice lady he met here.

“Eh, I’m the lucky one. She became the love of my life after my first wife died. She helped me love again.”

“I can only hope, I find someone to love the way you two. I still think about how lovely your wedding was. I’m glad I got to go.”

“Oh, Patricia had to have you as a bridesmaid. She basically gives me full credit for our meeting. Had it not been for you mixing up our drink orders then we wouldn’t be married now.” He chuckles and I frown.

“Hey now, I was still new. I don’t get them mixed up now.”

He nods and I pour him a little more whiskey before putting the bottle away for the night. He stays and waits for me to finish cleaning and when I’m done, he also waits by the door to walk me. I thank him ten times before getting to my car and once I’m inside, I wait for him to get to his car before leaving at the same time.

When I get home, I take a deep breath, feeling the slightly lonely atmosphere lingering in the apartment. A part of me will miss Blaire a little bit but, I have to deal with this the best I can. I haven’t lived alone in a long time so it’s going to take some adjusting again. Locking up, I go to the kitchen and make myself a sandwich before flopping down on the sofa. Phone in hand, I send a quick text to Ronan letting him know I made it home for the night.

I’m not surprised that a few seconds later, my phone starts ringing.

“Hello.”

“Hey, sweetie. How was work?”

“Rough.”

“Why?” He asks and I can hear the concern in his voice.

“I just didn’t want to be there. When I got home this morning, Blaire threatened to move out so when I caught on to her bluff, I kicked her out.”

“Oh wow, I’m sorry. Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’ll be fine. It was for the best. Her true colors came out and they weren’t pretty. She has some pent-up animosity towards me so yeah.” For some reason, my eyes water.

“Babygirl, do you want some company?”

“Yes, but I don’t want you to give me money for it.” I sniff and Ronan begins to chuckle loudly.

“I’ll be there in 30 minutes. Text me the address.” He orders before getting off the phone.

I text him my address and quickly begin straightening the apartment a little. In my room, I strip and take a quick shower before putting on an oversized shirt with boyshorts. when I’m done, I light a few candles in my room. Why my room? Well, I’d rather lay in here and watch a movie with Ronan. I doubt he knows about Netflix and chill though. I don’t intend on having sex with him but, I’m not completely opposed to the idea.

When my apartment smells and looks nice, I relax a little. Pouring myself a much-needed glass of wine, I flop down on the sofa and wait for Ronan. I wonder if other sugar babies get this excited about seeing their sugar daddy. I wonder if this kind of visitation is allowed? I’ll have to ask. If everything is about planning and money then I’d think random visits would pose some complications. I don’t know though. There’s still a lot I have to learn.

Breaking my thought, I hear a knock on the door. I hop up and quickly look through the peephole to confirm before unlocking the door. When I open it, Ronan is standing there looking quite handsome as usual. He isn’t in dressy clothes like I’ve seen him before. He’s in sweatpants and a t-shirt with Nike shoes.

“Hi.” I smile.

“Hey, babygirl.”

I let him in and he looks around for a bit. I wonder what he thinks of my place.

“This reminds me of my first apartment when I was in college.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, except yours is a lot cleaner than mine was.” He smiles, stepping to me.

Looking up at him, I can’t help but smile.

“Thank you for coming.”

Reaching up, he pinches my chin before delivering a quick kiss on my lips.

“Anything for you, sweetie.”

Hmm, I like the sound of those words.
