Chapter 6

When I arrive at the restaurant, I can barely breathe from being so nervous. The whole way here I contemplated turning around and going back home. A few times I’d convinced myself that this was a setup to get me kidnapped or even murdered by some psycho. However, none of that stopped me from coming here. No matter what my mind had concocted, my foot stayed on the gas. Even when valet took my keys and my mind said snatch them back, I still watched them take my care away to park. Whatever my mind was saying, my body overrode it. Now here I am standing at the host’s podium.

The place is crowded and I can’t find Ronan at any of the tables as I’m giving the host my name.

“Ah this way, ma’am. Mr. Loxley has reserved a private dining room for the evening.”

Private dining room. Is that even possible?

I follow the host and in seconds, all the chatter of the main room is gone and I’m walking down a lonely hallway. When we get to a door, the host knocks once before opening it. Thoughts in my head swim with ideas of what this man has in store for me tonight. A part of me is very much anxious, but the other part is extremely excited.

“Your guest, Mr. Loxley.” He smiles as he ushers me in.

When I step into the room, the lights are dim and there’s a single table sitting in the middle of the room with a single rose in a slender vase. Ronan stands and comes over to me.

“Thank you.” He says to the host as he takes my hand.

The host exits without a word, most likely doing as Ronan told him to do. Be scarce. No man orders a private room unless he wants a lot of privacy. With my hand in his, Ronan leads me over to the table and pulls the chair out for me. I sit down and there’s a bottle of expensive wine sitting on the table. I know because the bar has it stocked. My eyes follow as Ronan takes a seat in front of me.

“You look absolutely gorgeous. I’m glad you came.”

I smile, coyly.

“Thank you. This place is really nice.”

“Only the best for you, dear. Would you like some wine?”

“Yes, please. I hope you don’t mind me saying, but it seems like you’re very used to doing this.”

Oh, I am. However, I only do for those I feel deserve it.”

“And you think I deserve it?” I raise an eyebrow.

“I’ve seen you work harder than most in the bar. Along with work, you have men groping you against your will. You’re the most deserving woman I’ve met in a while.”

I think back to him catching me when that asshole almost made me fall at the bar that night. The look in Ronan’s eyes comforted me. His gaze even put me in a bit of a trance. I can even remember what his large hands felt like gripping my hips as he held me up. Remembering his touch just makes me want his hands on me again, but for now, I’ll just enjoy this date.

As we’re sipping wine and talking, the chemistry between us grows. He makes me laugh and when I talk, his eyes never leave mine. The quietness of the room makes the atmosphere a lot more sensual. Without the distraction of people around us, I can focus on how every few moments, Ronan licks his bottom lip or how deep and raspy his laugh is. I like the way the corner of his mouth turns up with my say something the least bit of humor. I even notice how hard he swallows hard when I lick wine from my lips after taking a sip. I don’t know what’s going on in his head, but if I did, I’d probably be turned on.

As the night progresses, sexual undertones begin coming to a head when Ronan asks me about past relationship as we’re eating.

“I’ve only had 2 relationships in my life. I don’t really have time for anything though. I work at night so going on dates is hard.”

“Don’t you miss it though?”

“Miss what?” I ask.

“Sex.”

I inhale deeply and my eyes look over at Ronan as I eat a small piece of steak. Ronan has a dark expression on his face and it feels like he’s looking straight into my soul.

“Yes, I suppose I do sometimes, but like I said I work a lot. Most of the time I barely have enough energy to even think about sex.” I shrug.

“Well, that’s unfortunate, dear. A woman like you deserves to be fucked thoroughly every night.”

His words cause me to drop my fork on the place by accident as my eyes shoot up to his. Across the table, he’s running his thumb over his bottom lip as if I’m more appetizing than the food on his plate. For a second, I can’t breathe as I’m taking in his words. I was completely unready for this to roll off of his tongue and now that it’s in the air, I almost want to hear it again.

“Did I startle you?”

“Um, startle? Yeah, I think that would be the right word.” I nod and Ronan chuckles.

“You, my dear, are a lot more put than I thought you were.”

Now that makes me feel a little offended.

“So, you brought me here because you thought I was easy?” I frown, ready to get up and leave.

“Absolutely not. I brought you here because I want to talk. You being the way you are only makes me sure that you’re right for what I have to offer.”

“And what is it you want to offer me?”

He pauses for a moment before taking a sip of wine.

“I want to offer you money in exchange for your company.”

My eyes widen and I’m at a loss for words. I knew this was too good to be true. He’s too good to be true. I should’ve listened to Blaire. This man wants to pay me to sleep with him. What in his mind made him think someone as “Pure” as I am would take such an offer?

I....I...I don’t know what to say.” I clear my throat.

“You may ask any questions you have. I’m curious to know what’s going through your head right now.”

I nod, but still, no words come out. Maybe I need some liquid courage. Picking up my wine, I take a large gulp. I go to set the glass down when I decide that I need more. I down the rest of the wine in two swallows. After licking my lips, I take a deep breath and return my attention back to Ronan, who is sitting patiently across the table.

“So, you think I’m a hooker?”

I’m even more taken back when he laughs and not just any laugh. Ronan’s laugh could shake this room if it were possible. I can feel my cheeks turn red in embarrassment. He’s laughing at me now. Just great.

“If I knew I was going to be made a fool of, I would’ve just gone to work and talked to drunk idiots.” I stand up to leave and Ronan’s laughing stops as I’m grabbing my clutch to leave. I’m almost to the door when he makes it around the table and catches my hand before it reaches the doorknob. I’m ready to swing my clutch, but when my eyes find his, I see there is no threat.

“I’m deeply sorry for making you feel embarrassed. It was not my intention. I laughed because your first thought was that I think you’re a hooker.”

“Well, don’t you. You want to pay me for sex.”

“I said I want to pay you for your company. That does not automatically mean sex, Lina.”

“It doesn’t?”

“No. Please sit and let me explain.”

I hesitate for a moment before letting him lead me back to my chair. I sit down slowly as he takes his seat.

“Now, let me be a little more specific. I just want to provide you financial reimbursement in exchange for your time whether it’s a business dinner or simply a weekend trip.”

Something clicks in my head and all of a sudden it’s very clear to me what kind of man Ronan is. I wish I’d realized this sooner because I would’ve been prepared for this instead of completely blindsided.

“What you’re saying is, you want to be my, sugar daddy?”

“Yes, Lina.”

I never thought I’d be in such a sitution yet, here I am. Ronan is asking me to be his sugar baby.
