Chapter 22

Khloe’s POV:

I didn’t want to open my eyes when I first woke up.

I was so comfortable.

This bed was probably the most comfortable thing I had ever slept on.

My mind groggily recalled what happened last night.

The nightmare I had and the events following it.

I forced my eyes open once I remembered what happened with Master.

Sure enough, I was still laying beside him, my head practically laying on his arm, almost pressing against his chest. His other arm was still around my, pressed against my upper back. I could even feel his chin barely resting on the top of my head.

This was... weird.

Usually in such a position, I would be scared, but I was almost feeling the complete opposite. Safe almost, like nothing was going to happen to me.

I even felt comforted. I didnt even have another nightmare last night after this happened.

After what he said to me last night, I guess it was understandable why I was feeling like this. He just let me cry. He oddly didn’t ask any questions, or yell at me for anything, even though I did so many things wrong last night...

I let out a quiet sigh, letting myself relax again. I kind of wanted to embrace this feeling while it lasted, knowing that it might not happen again once he wakes up.

I found myself focusing on his heart beat and the barely noticeable rise and fall of his chest.

His heart beat was odd. It was very different from mine. It was faint, ghostly almost.

I guess everything about Vampires was odd to me.

“How are you feeling?”

I’m not sure what surprised me more, unexpectedly hearing his voice or his question.

Oh no... I didn’t wake him up did I?

I quickly disregarded that, thinking that he probably would have yelled at me already if I did.

“Um... I’m fine.” I responded quietly, deciding not to look up to meet his gaze.

A shudder ran down my spine as his hand trailed down my back and too my injured hip.

“Does it still hurt?” He asked, pressing against it lightly.

It didn’t necessarily hurt, but it was definitely uncomfortable. Whatever he put on it last night seemed to have done it’s job.

“It’s just a little sore.” I responded, realizing only then that my fingers had been mindless toying with the soft fabric of his shirt.

I pulled my hands against me as soon as I noticed.

Master hummed.

“That’s good,” He began, pushing himself into a sitting position beside me, making me sit up on my elbow. “I’ll take another look at it after I get back.”

I immediately noticed a difference with the lack on his body next to mine.

I didn’t like it.

“Where are you going?” I asked, not really wanting him to leave me here alone.

He looked down at me like the answer was obvious.

Oh... It was obvious.

“I’ll leave you here and order you something when I get back. The last thing I need is for you and Xander to be in the same place.” He finished as he got off of the bed.

My eyes just followed him as he walked into his closet to change.

I felt a bit of tension leave my body from what he said.

I never wanted to see Xander again.

The bed felt substantially less comfortable ever since he got out of it.

It was even beginning to be too hot under all of these blankets.

I slowly sat up, bringing my knees up to my chest so that I wasn’t completely under the blanket anymore.

The thought that he hadn’t said a thing about me lying to him still confused me.

Vampires hated thier pets misbehaving, especially if it was lying.

I wasn’t nesicarily upset that he hasn’t done anything, just a bit confused and curious.

Master walked back into the room, now wearing his everyday formal attire, straightening out the collar of his shirt.

He glanced at me as he ran his fingers through his hair a few times.

My eyes widened as he did a double take, now fully focusing on me.

I grew a bit nervous.

“Y’know, I’ve noticed that you’re not very good at hiding how your feeling.” He spoke.

I tilted my head a bit.

“What do you mean?”

He rose a dark brown at me. He almost looked amused.

“You look confused.”

I blinked at him.

Wow he must be right.

It was interesting how easily he could read me.

Maybe it was just a Vampire thing.

“I am.” I responded.

Well, I guess it’s now or never to satisfy my curiosity.

Or get myself hurt...

“You havnt punished me for anything.”

He paused for a moment.

“That’s because you havnt done anything wrong, Khloe.”

I stayed silent.

But I did do something wrong.

“But after last night... I just thought-”

“What did you do last night that I should punish you for?” He sounded like he hadn’t the slightest clue.

I just stared at him for a moment.

How could he not think of one thing? I was fearing for my life last night because of all of the ways I disobeyed him.

“I-I ran out of the room without thinking.” I began.

“Did you intend on getting locked out?”

His question surprised me. Still I slowly shook my head.

“Then there’s no issue. Why would I punish you for something that was an accident?”

I opened my mouth to say something but no words would come out.

I had to think over what he said many times, trying to fully understand what he meant by that.

“I lied to you.” I said.

His eyes furrowed, but not in a bad way, more like he was thinking.

“Well, yes, but you were doing it to save your own life. I can understand that. Plus I highly doubt that you would lie to me for any other reason.”

He was answering this so differently than I had expected.

“But I-”

“God, Khloe, do you want me to punish you or something?”

I quickly shook my head, trying to get that idea away as fast as possible.

“N-no, I’m just trying to figure out what I should and shouldn’t do in order not to be.”

He looked me over for a moment, like he was trying to figure out what he should say.

Just a set of rules is what I’m looking for. Whatever it takes, I wanted to be a good pet.

“As long as you’re not trying to purposely do something against me, then you won’t get punished. Mistake are a part of living, and getting punished for living dosnt really sound like a good way to live.”

That... That was it?

For some reason, his words actually made me happy. The words that I never thought would come out of my own Master.

Unlike the Pet Master, he wasn’t avidly looking for a way to punish me, and I’m kind of upset that I just now realized that.

“Is that all?” He asked as he headed towards the door.

I nodded once.

“I’ll be back soon.”

And with that, he was gone.
