Chapter 12: Threat and Pain
I woke up the next morning with someone’s arms around me. I look to see Zach. He kept his promise. It had been the first night since her death that I had gotten a good night sleep without nightmares of my mom’s funeral.
I tried my best to get out of bed, but Zach’s grip on me wouldn’t loosen up. “Zach,” I said quietly. “Zach!” I shouted a little louder this time.
Man, he was a heavy sleeper. I shook him, trying to get him to wake up, and nothing. “Zach if you don’t wake up I’m going to slap you!” I said loud enough for the whole house the hear.
“Yeah, well I’d like to see you try to hurt me.” I heard him mumble in his sleep with a smile on his face. So he was awake the whole time! I slapped him like I used to slap Mack before my mother died.
That got him awake and out of bed fast. “Shit!” He shouted holding the side of his face.
“Told you I would slap you if you didn’t wake up,” I said laughing a little.
He looked at me and smirked. “You think this is funny?” He said while approaching me.
“N-No,” I said as he started to tickle me.
I laughed as he tickled me. “S-Stop, p-please.” I cried out, literally he was tickling my sides and I have a lot of bruises right there. Tears slipped out of my eyes as he didn’t stop.
“Please Z-Zach, s-stop,” I said not laughing anymore, more like I was in pain than anything.
He must have noticed my face cause then he immediately stopped. “Sorry,” He said.
“It’s okay,” I said to him.
He sat down on the bed beside me. “Are you okay after last night?” He asked concerningly.
I nodded my head. “Yeah, thanks,” I told him.
“Anytime.” He replied. I heard my phone beep and I grabbed it to check it.
It was a picture of Zach and me from last night. I was cuddled up on his side with my head on his chest and his arm was around me protectively. There was a message along with the picture from Mack.
If you don’t want this to get out, I suggest you stop hanging out with Zach, wouldn’t want this to get around to dear daddy now, would you. You know how he is when he gets angry.
I paled and my heart sped up. “Princes- I mean Lena, are you alright? You look like you just saw a ghost.” Zach said.
“No, no, I’m fine,” I said in the calmest voice possible.
“Are you sure, you don’t sound okay.” He asked.
“Yes, I’m fine!” I snapped. He looked at me confused and a little pissed. “Sorry,” I said to him.
“It’s okay, I’m going to go see what my mom is doing. Come down whenever you’re ready.” He said before leaving the room.
I had to stay away from him and his mom. I don’t want either of them to get hurt, even if I don’t know them well, they are still my friends, well his mom is anyway.
I got dressed and put a jacket on and applied makeup to my face to cover any visible bruises. I then headed downstairs to see if any breakfast is ready. I didn’t know what I was going to say about the freak out I had this morning. I hope he doesn’t mention it.
I only have to stay away from him for a few more days. The question is, how did Mack get a picture of Zach and me? Did he not leave after all and is just waiting for me to mess up to call our father back to get me punished?
I didn’t know, but I needed to know. “Good morning sweetie,” Diana said as I entered the kitchen.
“Good morning,” I replied back to her. She handed me a plate of pancakes, which looked really good.
“Oh I just remembered something, your father called last night and said that he’ll be back in 2 days instead of 4, so you’ll be able to go home soon,” Diana told me.
“Oh, that’s great.” really great. I looked around but I didn’t spot Zach anywhere.
“Where’s Zach?” I asked her, not seeing him.
As if on cue Zach came out of the kitchen with a plate of pancakes. “Miss me or something sleeping beauty?” He said smirking.
“No! And I told you not to called me that!” I said to him, whacking his arm.
“Correction, you told me not to call you princess, and I didn’t I called you sleeping beauty.” He said and took a bite of pancakes.
“Yeah, but sleeping beauty is a princess!” I snapped back.
“But did I directly call you princess, nope I didn’t. This argument has been settled. I won.” He said.
I growled before pushing him out of his chair and onto the ground. “I’ve been wanting to do that all morning, thank you, Lena,” Diana said. I laughed, maybe for the first time, a real laugh.
“You’re welcome,” I told her and we all soon finished eating. I soon received a text, from Mack. I swear is he spying on me or something, like did our father just take him out of the house just to spy on me. Like what is the point in that?
Lena, I suggest you make some sort of excuse to get out of that house today, can’t let you get too close to Zach now can we, I mean you already blabbed about mom’s death to him, what’s next? Do it and meet me at our house, the door will be unlocked, I think you deserve a punishment for what you’ve said.
I read and reread the text a bunch of times before another one came in.
Oh, and If they find out what happens, their lives are on the line, so I suggest you don’t blab about it.
“Uh, Diana?” I asked.
“Yes, sweetie.” She replied.
“I’m going to head out with some friends, I’ll be back later. I’ll just text Zach and he can tell you when I’ll be back.” I said to her.
“Okay, that’s fine.”
“Thanks,” I said before grabbing my phone and headed out the door. I’d rather it be my life on the line than theirs. They, well Diana, are really nice people. I guess, Zach can be nice when he wants to be, but that doesn’t mean I want them dead.
I arrived at my house pretty quickly. As Mack said, the front door was unlocked. Once I walked in, I know it would be awhile before I walked out.
“Welcome home, dear sister...”
