Chapter 8: Moving In
Thankfully the day ended pretty quickly, but that’s not what I was worried about. I’d be moving into Zach Holt’s house for 1 month because of my father’s stupid business trip, and my brother is staying with us as well.
This is going to be terrible. I don’t think I can handle both of them for a month, well at least, I hope, Zach won’t physically abuse me. He didn’t know my past and I don’t plan on telling him anytime soon.
Mack told me to pack my things quickly because we had to be there by 5 and it’s 3:45 right now.
I packed enough to last me a week knowing I might just come back to grab something if I needed it. Once I was done Mack and I headed to Zach’s house, which was only a few houses down.
I got to tell you, his house is huge! Well bigger than mine even if mine is 2 stories. it was about 2 stories tall and there was a beautiful garden out front. I wasn’t sure what the back looked like, but I assume they have a pool.
When we arrived at the door I rang the doorbell to make sure someone was home. The door opened and there stood a beautiful woman.
She had brown hair with light blue eyes and a little bit of makeup on that was barely noticeable, but it was there. “You must be Mack and Lena, I’m Diana Holt, but you can call me Diana if you’d like. Come on in.”
She lead us into the house, it was more beautiful on the inside than on the outside, but the whole house was beautiful in general. “Zach’s in his room, I’ll just get him for you.” and with that, she headed up the stairs.
Mack yanked my arm no caring if it hurt or not. I hissed at the pain, but I did my best not to cry. “Now, you’re going to be on your best behavior and if you don’t dad will not be happy to hear about that and you can guarantee he will be a lot worse than he has been.” Mack barked out a threat to me.
I nodded my head, too afraid to speak. As soon as we heard footsteps down the stairs Mack let go of my arm.
Zach saw me and smirked a smirk that was all too familiar with me. “Well, this is going to be fun isn’t it, princess.” He said.
I didn’t say a word. “Zach, honey why don’t you show our guest to their rooms,” Diana said. She looked at me for a moment, fear and worry flickered through her eyes as she looked from Mack to me.
“Sure, mom.” He said and began to head up the stairs, we were just about to follow him when Diana pulled me over.
“You go on ahead, I just would like to speak to Lena for a moment.” She said to Mack who headed up the stairs after Zach. She looked at me with that worried expression again. “Are you okay, Lena?” She asked.
“Y-Yeah why wouldn’t I be?” I asked stuttering a bit. Did she know? She couldn’t, could she?
“No reason, you can go upstairs now.” That was the last the said before I disappeared upstairs after Mack and Zach.
It didn’t take long for me to catch up with them. “Looks like sleeping beauty decides to show up. What did my mom want anyway?” Zach asked.
Zach looked at me suspiciously but dropped the subject. “So anyway, this is your room, Mack you can get settled in there while I show princess her room.”
“Don’t. Call. Me. Princess! How many times do I have to tell you!” I shouted a bit. Zach let out a small chuckle. He was amused by this, of course!
Mack glared at me before Zach and I walked off to my room, which I hope is some place Mack will never find.
He stopped in front of a door. “This is your room and my room is right across from it.” He said.
“And why would I need to know where your room is?” I asked.
“You know why, princess." and with that, he disappeared into his room, no more words were spoken between us.
I rolled my eyes before opening the door to my temporary room and went in.
The room was beautiful, pale blue walls and light brown hardwood floor. The bed’s post was white along with the bedside tables. There was a simple vanity to my left and a door I’m assuming leads to a closet.
I walked over to the bed sheets and felt how soft and silky they were. They were pale blue just like the walls.
Instead of unpacking I fell onto the bedsheets and dropped my stuff to the floor. This is what it felt like to have someone who cared for you in your family.
I used to know that, but now, things have changed, when she-- left me, things have never been the same. No one to care about me, no one to protect me like there was back at home.
There was a soft knock at my door. “Lena, sweetie, dinners ready whenever you’d like to come down.” I heard Diana’s voice ring in my ears.
“Okay, I’ll be down in a minute, thank you,” I called out before sliding off the bed and headed downstairs to eat.
When I reached the table I saw Mack and Zach already sitting there. I took a seat as far away as I could from them, which wasn’t far. Diana sat next to me. “Dig in, the food isn’t going anywhere,” Diana said and we all start to eat. I don’t know how long it’s been since I’ve eaten a proper meal, but it’s been awhile.
I didn’t eat much, but enough to make sure I wasn’t hungry all night. Once everyone was done we all headed our separate ways. When I got to my room or the room I was staying in, I heard my phone beep from where it was laying on the bed.
I quickly checked to see who had texted me. It was an unknown number.
Thought I’d add your number in my phone, princess, you know in case you needed me for any reason at all. ;)
Of course, it was Zach. Wait, how did he get my number in the first place? I quickly texted back, How did you get my number? I waited for a response, which I got.
That, princess, is something you’ll never find out. ;)
I rolled my eyes, even though he couldn’t see it. I heard another next come in, I quickly checked it. Of course, it was from Zach, again.
I throw my phone back on my bed before walking across the room and in front of Zach’s door. “Don’t. Call. Me. Princess.” I shouted through the door in which I got a chuckle in response.
“Whatever helps you sleep at night, princess."
I throw my hands up in the air frustrated before heading back into my room to change for bed. I put on a simple tank top with a pair of pajama pants and slipped into the silk covers on the bed. I soon drifted off to sleep.
Today had been one of the better days, but only because we’re with other people or else it would be one of my last days.
Saved by the business trip.
