Chapter 4

Alexandra

I dressed in a pair of grey leggings with a grey hoodie. I pulled on a pair of black Vans. I applied a matte red lipstick. My hair was braided to the side. I picked up my phone, wallet, and keys rushing down stairs. I had fifteen minutes till it was nine o'clock. I needed to get to Melanie's house ASAP. She's probably going to kill me when she finds out about my plans, but she's my best friend. I wanted what was best for her.

I swung the front door open to see Ashton standing there. His fist was raised, ready to knock on the door. I frowned cocking my head to the side. Was he stalking me? What a creep.

"How do you know where I live?" I asked.

"I live next door." He smirked, pointing to his left. I rolled my eyes stepping out of my house. Great, just great. "I actually came by to see if you had any salt, but it seems like you're going somewhere."

"Yeah, a date." I nodded. I looked over at my car as a thought popped into my head. I mentally slapped my forehead for being stupid.

"Hey, can you do me a favor." I turned to look up at Ashton. He nodded his head. I sighed debating on whether or not this was a good idea.

"Can I borrow you car?" I bit my lip anxiously.

"Why?" He cocked his head in confusion. He looked cute when he was clueless. I almost forgot he was an arrogant jerk. Almost.

"Melanie knows what my car looks like." I shrugged. His eyes turned to my Jeep. I was really desperate and in a rush.

"I want to join, whatever is it you are doing." He chuckled. I quickly nodded my head. If that's what it took. I just needed him to hurry up.

"But I'm driving." I called after him. He quickly nodded and disappeared into the house. He came back out with a set of keys and his leather jacket.

"Here." He tossed the keys at me. I caught them and quickly unlocked the matte black Charger SRT8. As soon as we were settled in the car we took off. I drove to Melanie's house and parked two houses down.

"So, what are we doing?" Ashton questioned, breaking the silence. I turned to look at him. His eyes were burning holes into my face. I turned back to look at Melanie's front door.

"Erm.. my best friend has a date tonight, but I don't trust the guy. So, I'm spying." I gave a brief answer. He shook his head with an incredulous look.

"With who?" He scoffed. I rolled my eyes as I turned my gaze towards him.

"Brian. Um.. Brian Sivan." I cleared my throat. A car skidded past us and parked right in front of Melanie's house. Brian got out with a bouquet of her favorite flowers; an assorted colors of petunia's. He walked up to her door and knocked.

Honestly, I felt like a stalker just watching him. So far, he was making a good impression. It better stay that way. Mel suddenly opened up the door. She smiled widely and hugged him. I watched as she disappeared with the flowers and then came back empty handed. Brian placed a hand on the small of her back and led her to his BMW i8. Melanie disappeared and so did Brian. The lights flashed and the car zoomed off. I started our car and took off after them.

In the moment I was thankful that Ashton's windows were heavily tinted. Our cover would've been blown. As for Brian, he was a gentleman, so far.

"You know, you look like a creep." Ashton commented from beside me. I had almost forgotten he was in the car. The entire drive he was quiet. I wish the quietness would've lasted.

"You look like a creep too, since you're in the car with me. Do you have sunglasses?" I asked as we pulled in the parking lot of the restaurant. It was the one restaurant that was super fancy, yet no one dressed the part.

"Holy.. the only thing I'll be able to afford is a small glass of water." I muttered. From the chuckles that vibrated through Ashton's chest, I knew he heard.

He pulled out a pair of black classic wafer Raybans. "Good slip those on." I nodded. He did as I commanded and then got out. I sighed pulling myself together. I can do this. I got out and made sure to lock the car. We made our way up to the entrance. Ashton pulled the door open motioning for me to go first. I shot him a small smile and walked through the door.

"Hi! Welcome to Ray Porter's. Can I get you a table?" The lady greedily eyed Ashton. A tug of jealousy rose in my chest, but I quickly pushed those feelings away.

No, we'd like to sit on the floor by the bathroom. Or maybe even the roof. That's fine too. Note my sarcasm.

"Yes, a table for two." Ashton nodded. He took my hand causing me to flinch. The sparks washed over my body in tiny waves.

"Make it look like we're here together." His lips brushed against my ear. I involuntarily shivered. Goosebumps coated my skin. I let him guide me to our table. We sat a few tables over from where Melanie was sitting.

Ashton Pulled my chair out allowing me to sit. I thanked him and took my seat. Ashton sat across from making himself comfortable. I picked up my menu and flipped through the pages. I looked down at my phone making sure to put it on silent. Melanie could text and that would be just plain awkward.

"Good evening. I'm Damien. I'll be you waiter for tonight. To start you guys off, what can I get you to drink?" He smiled over at me. He was a cute guy, but I felt no attraction towards him. Not like I did with-

Oh, no. I felt nothing for Ashton. I mean, I couldn't. There was no way I'd let myself fall into that again. Its not like distancing myself would help either. The guy knew where I lived.

"I'll have a glass of water." I whispered. I kind of felt uncomfortable with these two guys looking at me. I looked over at Ashton waiting for him to order.

"I'll take a glass of lemonade." He gave a stiff smile. Damien nodded and wrote in his notepad.

"Alright, I'll be right back with your drinks." Damien rigidly stalked off. I rose my eyebrows up at Ashton. His shades were set to the side as he roamed the pages. Damien came back with both of our drinks. I gave him a small smile when he sat my water next to me. He proceeded to pull his notebook out. Ashton looked at me, waiting for me to order.

"What can I get for you?" Damien cleared his throat. My eyes moved up to meet his. Not once did his eyes meet mine. I sighed looking down at the menu.

"A Cesar salad would be fine." I nodded off. Ashton rolled his eyes at my choice; as if he knew that's what I'd be getting. I, honestly, wasn't that hungry. Besides, salad was one of the healthier choices.

"I'll have the three cheese ravioli." Ashton ordered. Damien gave a brief smile and walked off, once again. "Really? A salad?" Ashton smirked at me.

"I'm not hungry, and I don't know this restaurant very well." I shrugged. He chuckled shaking his head. I swirled my straw around inside of my cup.

I glanced over at Melanie and Brian. She was smiling brightly. She took a bite from her ravioloi and moaned in delight. Brian watched her carefully. Studying her every move, every feature. His eyes shone brightly with adoration. Something I had never seen swirl around in a guys eyes before. I looked away, envying her in the moment.

She never had trouble finding her next boyfriend, or even finding a guy that liked her back. She was beautiful. With sun kissed skin, bright hazel eyes. She had heart-shaped lips. Guys lined up for her, but she was so dang picky. I really envied my best friend. I just wish someone would look at me the same way Brian did her.

"What's wrong?" Ashton frowned. My eyes flickered over to him. Worry crossed his features. I gave him a bright smile shaking my head. He didn't need to know.

"Nothing. I was just thinking." I sat up straight.

"About what?" He pouted. I held his gaze as he did mine. My heart was racing at an immense speed. I could hear it in my ears. My throat was closing up, palms sweating.

"Its nothing. Maybe Brian isn't such a bad guy after all." I chuckled.

"Yea, he's not, but nothing is always something. Now you have to tell me." Ashton sat back in his seat, with his arms crossed over his chest.

"I don't have a choice, huh?" I muttered.

"Not really. So, 'fess up." He smirled. I scowled at him as he chuckled quietly.

"I can't believe I'm going to pour my heart out to you, of all people." I scolded myself. "Melanie has never had trouble finding a guy. I mean, she's got a whole line of them. Yeah, I guess I am jealous, and I know I shouldn't be, but I can't help it. I know my 'prince charming' isn't coming any time soon." I put air quotation marks around prince charming.

"He will. You just have to be patient. Everything comes in time." Ashton shook his head. I knew that was going to be his answer. Its everyone's answer, but nonetheless, I nodded as the food came. I took a bite slowly chewing on my food. I watched as Ashton took a bite and threw his head back.

"Mmmmm..." He moaned. "Taste this." He scooped some up and shoved it in my direction. His hand was under that fork in case the food slipped off and fell on to the table.

"No, thank you." I chuckled.

"Taste!" He smirked. I sighed taking his fork into my mouth. I chewed as the different cheeses exploded on to my taste buds. Ashton watched me carefully. His eyes scanning my face for any sort of reaction. My cheeks flushed as I laughed.

"Stop!" I finally covered my face.

"Stop what?" He laughed along with me.

"Staring." I peaked through my parted fingers. He chuckled shaking his head, but never looked away.

"I'm waiting for your reaction." He smiled crossing his arms over the table. He was truly a beautiful person. I would never admit that though.

"That's really good." I covered my mouth so no food splattered out of my mouth. He frantically nodded his head and took another bite.

Slowly, it dawned on me that I had eaten off of his fork. Ashton gave me a bite, off of his fork. I could get and STD! I would just have to act as if I wasn't panicking. Even though I felt like wild hurricane on the inside.

Dinner continued and Ashton and I played 21 questions. We went back and forth for what felt like forever. But it was fun. I had an amazing time. Ashton was truly a sweetheart. Even though he was cocky. I found out he was into poetry. His two favorite bands were Twenty One Pilots and Fall Out Boy. I was, also, in love with both.

He lived with his father, like me. He has a little sister, he was the oldest. He has never met his mom, and neither have I. Just little things we had in common. It had been time to pay and i pulled my credit car out of my wallet. Ashton shook his head slipping my card back over to me.

"Ashton." I spoke sternly.

"Its on me." He smiled. I shook my head placing the car back into the little pocket. He huffed shoving the receipt on to the side of the table. Damien came back and took the small booklet.

"I'll be right back." Ashton stood. I nodded waiting for him. He came back just as Damien had. I took my card out of the pouch and slipped it back into my wallet. Ashton walked us out and to the car.

This time, Ashton drove us back home. I slipped out of the car, shutting the door carefully. I sighed looking over at my house.

"Thank you, for letting me use your car, and for joining me on my stalking. Sorry I had to drag you out, late at night." I smiled shyly.

"Thank you for asking me for my car. I had fun tonight." He chuckled.

"Goodnight Ash." I nodded.

"Night Ali." He waved. i walked into my house and ran up to my room. I changed into one of my brothers tee shirts and lay in bed. Then a thought struck me.

How did he know my name?
