Chapter 16 - Preacher

Preacher couldn’t help but throw his head back and laugh. His Hummingbird calling him stud muffin was fucking funny. He couldn’t remember when the last time was he laughed that hard. Daggers antics made him chuckle sometimes, and the way Lucy and Klutz went at each other was comical, but no one brought out a full laugh in him. He smiled down at his girl, while she stood stock still and watched him.

“I like when you laugh,” she whispered after he got control of himself.

“I like it too Hummingbird,” Preacher admitted. “Now I know you’re on lunch, so let’s eat and talk a bit before you need to get back.”

Macy nodded and followed him over to the couch. He opened the bag, put two tacos on her plate, and four on his own. She blinked at him, but didn’t say a word.

“You doing okay at the laundromat?” he asked.

She swallowed and nodded quickly, then looked back down at her plate. He immediately narrowed his eyes at her. Macy was lying, but he wasn’t sure how to proceed. With his temper, it might be best to check up on her a bit more before he jumped the gun.

“Would it be okay if I came back over tonight? Maybe brought some Chinese. We could watch a movie or some tv?” he asked.

“You want to come back tonight?” Macy questioned in obvious surprise. “Aren’t you busy doing president stuff?”

Preacher had his taco halfway to his mouth when she said that, and he was glad he hadn’t take a bite. He chuckled as he turned to face her.

“President stuff?” he smirked.

Macy looked down at her plate shyly. “I just figured you had rides to plan, bad guys to take out, and guns to clean.”

Preacher busted out laughing again. “You watch a lot of Sons of Anarchy?” he questioned.

“It’s a good show,” she whispered defensively.

“I’m not knocking your choice in shows Hummingbird, I’m just laughing at your comparison,” he explained.

“I don’t understand,” she admitted.

“We’re a bit different from their club,” Preacher told her. “We don’t do anything illegal unless it’s warranted, and we mostly just work on cars and bikes. Our free time is our own, so mostly we drink and hang out.”

“What would warrant the illegal stuff?” she questioned curiously. He sighed not surprised that was what she picked up on.

“We protect our own,” Preacher explained. “If someone in our club, or someone one of us cares about is in trouble, we do what needs to be done to fix it. Sometimes the lines between legal and illegal get a little bit blurred.”

“So that’s why your here?” Macy frowned sadly. “Because I’m Snake’s sister and I may be in trouble. But Snake doesn’t care about me, so technically I’m not the clubs problem.”

Preacher absolutely lost it when she said that. “First of all,” he growled angrily. “Me and your brother had a chat, he cares about you, he’s just being an ass. And second of all, I’m not here because of your family ties to one of my prospects.”

“Then why are you here?” she questioned.

“Because you got my attention the minute you stepped out of that fucking car. You’re adorable, you’re strong, and I’m drawn to you. You make me want to know everything about you, and you make me want to hold on to you and protect you from the fucking world,” Preacher admitted.

Tears instantly fell from her eyes and he glared at them. “I’ve scared you,” he said. “I’ve never cared about anyone before, and I’m not good at expressing it.”

“No,” she quickly denied, as she swiped at her tears with the back of her hand. “I think you said it perfectly. All I’ve ever wanted was for someone to hold me. I’ve waited my whole life for a man to say those words to me, thinking it would never happen.”

Preacher moved quickly then, scooping her up and placing her on his lap. He wrapped his arms around her and held on tight. She gripped his shirt and buried her tear streaked face in his neck. He thought of Snake and knew he’d have to deal with that, but right now he didn’t care.

“You know, maybe stud muffin was a bit premature. I think cuddle bunny might be better,” his girl muffled into his neck.

“Fuck,” he said as he held her tighter. He knew his ‘figuring shit out’ idea was crap. Now he just needed to go tell the club he was claiming her.
