Chapter 14 - Alexandria

Alex woke in a panic. She didn’t know where she was, and there was a heavy weight sounding her. She cried out and thrashed, thinking instantly of the man that attacked her outside the strip club. Maybe he had found her again. Suddenly, the weight was gone, and she was flipped to her back.

“Shhh,” Mario ordered from above her. “It’s just me. I swear to god you’re safe,” he promised. She stared at him for a minute, then reached up, wrapping her arms around his neck, pulling him down to her.

A second later, she gasped as he easily flipped them over, so she was lying on his chest. He buried his hands in her hair, and whispered soothingly to her. She snuggled into him more, and shoved her face in his neck, taking comfort in his strength. She knew he spoke the truth. As long as he was near, she was in no further danger. He held her for a long time, before he finally pushed her away a bit, so he could see her face.

“You okay now Angel,” he asked in concern. She nodded, as she stared back at him. “You think you might want a bath.” She thought of the night before, and eagerly nodded again.

“Okay,” he said, as he twisted and headed for the bathroom, carrying her with him. He set her down on the counter, then started the water. He left for a minute, and returned with another of his t-shirts, setting it on the counter. Then he helped her down.

“If you wash your hair, try not to get the stitches on your forehead wet. If you decide not to, which is the best idea, there’s some clips in the top drawer you can use to pin it up,” he told her.

Without thought, she turned and opened the drawer. She gasped, when she reached inside and pulled out a clip. She remembered this clip, she used to wear it all the time. Stunned, she could only stare at him. He just smirked at her.

“You used to always take out your clips when we were together. You left a couple laying around, and I used to keep them for you,” he said as he shrugged.

She walked over to him, and pulled him down to kiss his cheek. Then she pushed him towards the door, and shoved him out, shutting and locking it behind him. She looked down, staring at the clip in her hand. Mario was full of surprises she thought, as she pinned up her hair.

She pulled off the t-shirt she was wearing, and stepped into the water. She turned the knob, until the water turned off, then sank down, cringing as it touched the bandaged cuts on her chest.

She had no idea what was going on with Mario, but she didn’t care. She needed him right now, but his words were words she had wanted him to say for a long time. She desperately hoped this was all real, but it would take time to trust him again.

She thought of last night, and the terror came back. That man had hurt her, but he had been intent on hurting her more. His hands had been rough, and his fists had hurt. A sob left her throat, and then she was crying. She pulled her knees up to her chest, as she was suddenly cold, and started to rock. She couldn’t get the man’s face out of her mind.

A minute later she heard the door crash in, and then water splashed everywhere as Mario stepped in the tub, still wearing his boxers. He sat, then she was pulled tight against his chest. She cried for a long time, as she leaned against him. This was her Mario that held her, the boy she had fallen in love with, and she desperately wanted him back.
