Chapter 3. Little Devil

HAILEY’S POINT OF VIEW

I’m in the cafeteria enjoying my cup of coffee. Deep inside I’m roaring with laughter as I’m reading Harold’s messages. “You deserve it, bastard.” I talked to my phone.

“Hey.” Gian greeted me.

“Hi.” I tucked my hair behind my ear.

I feel a little uncomfortable when he’s around. Gian Bail is my colleague, he’s the head of the engineering department. We’ve been friends since the day that I worked as the executive secretary in Caliper Construction.

“Can I get you another cup?” He asked.

What the heck? Coffee sounds really good. I'm a total coffee addict. I gave him a nod.

After a while, he returned with two cups in hand. I furrowed my brows as I plunged my gazes into his. Oh God, I suddenly knew what he’s really up to.

He placed the coffee on the table. I immediately grab the cup, so that I would at least have something to hold on to.

“Thanks.” I chirped.

“Are you free tonight? Dinner?” He smiled sweetly.

I knew it. This coffee isn’t really free. He’s interested in me. A little dinner date with another man won’t probably hurt my reputation. I thought for a while.

I’ve been really loyal and stick to one for years, and yet Harold betrayed me. I smirked thinking that finally I’m gonna have my ultimate revenge.

I tap my fingers on the table and glared at my cup. I pursed my lips, this man is seriously attractive. I giggled thinking that I can make Harold really jealous if I hang out with him.

I shifted my gaze to Gian. He looked really puzzled at my behavior. I cleared my throat and begun to speak. “Yeah, I’m free. Where are you gonna take me?”

“Home. Good food, movie, and loads of whiskey?” He narrated and I'm in daze.

My eyes grew wide. What is he up to? Is he planning something nasty and sexy? Oh god, this isn’t a good idea. I’m not the type who sleeps around with random guys.

Seeing that I’ve been silent for a while, he spoke again. “It’s my mom’s birthday.”

I roared with laughter. “You didn’t tell me.”

“I’m not what you think I am. I have no plans of hurting you or taking advantage of your weakness.” He reached for my hand and kissed it.

Damn, I'm about to faint. I’m not sure what I should feel when he’s this close.

I pulled my hand away and gulped the lumps in my throat.

“I know you have a boyfriend, but you don’t deserve what he’s doing to you, Hailey.” He chirped.

“What do you mean?” I asked confused.

He stared at me deeply before he finally begun to talk. “He’s currently going out with my friend, Dina.”

I'm surprised. “You knew her?” I raised my brows.

He smirked. “Yeah, who wouldn’t know Dina Stinger?”

I furrowed my brows. “The Dina Stinger, whose family owns an airline company?”

He nodded. Now, I know why Harold is really into her. She’s beautiful, rich, and famous.

“Look, Hailey, I really like you. If you choose me. I promise I’ll be loyal to you. I’ll give you a hundred percent of my time. You’ll be my priority.” His voice echoed endlessly in my brain.

I blinked. I must be dreaming.

“I’m gonna take care of you, Hailey.” He added.

Harold never took care of me, we don’t even spend much time together.

As a matter of fact, it's as if he just visits me for sex. After we make love, he's instantly gone. Except for last night, he doesn't usually spend the whole night with me.

We've been together for five years and yet he hasn't even introduced me to his parents or even to his siblings. He didn't even invite me to one of his friend's party or for a simple movie date.

I sighed heavily and shifted my gaze to Gian. “Okay. I get you. It’s a wonderful offer, but I can’t.”

I spoke in defiance. Starting a brand new relationship with Gian sounds promising, but I can’t do it. Although things between us is a mess, I love Harold. All I want is a little revenge.

I can’t even imagine a life without him. Every second he’s on my mind. He’s everything to me.

“You can keep us both, Harold and me.” He hissed.

“Really? Are you even freaking serious?” Sounds really tempting.

“Yes.” He responded curtly.

“Look, Gian. I never wanted to lose Harold. He’s all that matters to me. He’s my life and my world. I’m sure you know what I mean.” I paused for a while, planted my gaze straight into his eyes, and finally begun to speak. “But he hurt me badly, and all I need is a little revenge.”

“I can help you with that.” He smirked and nodded.

I huffed and thought again. After all the heartache and the pain that I’ve harbored from Harold, I really need this.

I don’t want Harold gone, I can’t separate myself from him. The wheels in my head are turning as I reflected on his offer.

Gian’s offer is perfect, I can continue my relationship with Harold while I can also have the revenge that I need. We could probably act out as lovers to make him jealous for a while. All set, I gave him a nod.

“I’ll see you after shift, little devil.” He grasped my hand tightly and winked at me.

Little devil? Is that an endearment? Oh god, what have I got myself into?
