Chapter 16: Crush?
“Mmmhmmm, keep telling yourself that,” Eden said crossing her arm and smirking at me. I threw my hands up in frustration.
“You are only 6 years younger than me Eden, how on earth would you know if I liked him because I don’t!”
She gets up off the bed and pulled me down so that we are eye to eye. “Because Leah, Kaden wouldn’t just keep any strange wolf in the pack, let alone in the pack house. He knew you were special to him when he laid eyes on you. He loves you and you love him!” She exclaimed.
“You do love him, Leah,” Cassie said to me.
“No, what I love is some peace and quiet, but apparently I’m not getting that am I?”
“No, I don’t Eden. Sure I may love that he saved my life once or twice, but that’s as far as it goes.” I told Eden. She pouted at me before walking towards the door. She looked back at me before leaving.
“Leah, just think about it. Kaden is known as the most ruthless alpha in all of the packs in the USA and since you’ve been here, he hasn’t been that type of guy anymore. You’ve changed him. That’s all I’ve got to say.” Then Eden exited the room without another word.
I looked at the closed door she just exited. I have to agree with her though. He had been different since the very first time I’ve met him. Maybe he has changed, but it wasn’t because of me at all. Never in a million years will he admit that.
I didn’t know what to do. This life is getting more and more complicated. I was knocked out of my thoughts when someone knocked on my door. Immediately I replied, “Come in.”
Kaden came into my room. “Alayah are you okay?” He asked me. My heart flipped and so did my stomach as he approached closer to me.
“Yes, I’m fine. We were just playing a game.” I told him.
“A game that I can’t know about?” He asked.
“Nope. Eden would kill me if I told you.” I smiled at that thought.
He let out a laugh. “Yes, I suppose so.” He said.
I laid back on my bed and closed my eyes. “So, what do you want?” I asked him.
“I was wondering if you wanted to go on a-” Kaden was cut off when Kyle and Dean slammed my door open. Worried expressions on both of their faces.
“What’s wrong?” I immediately asked.
Kyle was fumbling with what to say so Dean spilled what is happening. “Vampires on our land Alpha. I don’t know if they are after Alayah or not, but they don’t just wander onto our land for nothing.”
Kaden let out a low growl. “How far away are they?” He asked.
“About 5 minutes South of the territory,” Kyle said finally managing to get some words out. I was totally confused. How can vampires be out in the daytime?
I looked at all three of them. “Okay, two questions. One, how do we know they are after me and two, how are they vampires out during the day? Doesn’t the sun hurt them?”
“We don’t know for sure if they are after you or not, but we have a pretty good indication that they are after what happened to your aunt,” Dean said.
“Also, vampires can be in sunlight only if they have a special stone called a White Pearlrose. They are very rare to have, but I assume these vampires have one or two.” Kyle said to me.
I calculated this all in my head. “So these vampires could possibly be after me and they can outstand the sun, just perfect. Let’s add it to the list of things going wrong in my life.” I said to them.
“Nothing is going to happen to you Alayah,” Kaden reassured me.
I met his gaze, which was on me. “How do you know that Kaden? I could die right here and now and you wouldn’t be able to stop it!” I snapped at him.
He sent a glare in my direction which I returned right back to him. The cold stone mask was back up once more, shutting me out.
“I don’t know Alayah, but as long as I’m with you I will not let anything happen to you. Hell, this pack won’t let anything happen to you!” He said.
“He wouldn’t lie to us Leah,” Cassie said.
"You don’t know that Cassie,” I said back to her. She let out a sigh but didn’t say anything more.
I began to pace around the room, mumbling to myself. “Alayah,” Kaden said but I waved it off. I had to think of what I’m going to do.
Strong arms pulled me to a stop. As soon as his hands touched my arm that tingly feeling returned but this time it was through my whole body and it wouldn’t go away.
“Alayah, calm down,” Kaden whispered in my ear. I’d want to fall over at that moment if I wasn’t angry. No, I’m not falling for this idiot.
I stopped struggling and let myself fall into his arms. He caught me and didn’t let me go. “I mean it Alayah, I won’t let anything happen to you.” His mask slipped a little showing worry in his eyes.
He put a hand on the side of my face and immediately I leaned into his touch. “Never?” I questioned. He sent a small smile to me.
I let out a soft yawn before snuggling into his warm arms. “Fine, I’ll admit it,” I said to Cassie.
“What? That you love him?” She taunted.
“No, not love at least not yet. Right now I like him.” I told her which caused my heart to flutter.
“Don’t leave me,” I said softly.
“Wasn’t planning on it, baby,” Kaden said back to me with a smile. I smiled back.
“Okay, guys get over your little lovey-dovey moment, but we have a real problem here,” Dean said snapping us out of our trance.
I got out of Kaden’s arms and stood back up. “Right, so we will go out there and see what they want,” Kaden said.
Kyle and Dean shared a look. “Kaden, if you go out there and they attack, you’re gone. There isn’t any way to save you. Kyle and I will go and we’ll report back to you as soon as we hear anything. We’ll take Michael and William with us for back up.” Dean said.
Kaden was about to protest but I cut him off. “No, they are right, if you go out there and get yourself killed then who would lead the pack,” I said to Kaden then turned to Kyle and Dean. “Go, and for goodness sake, be careful,” I said to them.
“Yes Luna,” They said in unison and left the room. I let out a soft yawn and crawled back into the bed. I was tired.
“Kaden?” I called to him, I knew he was still in the room.
“Yes?” He replied.
“What do you think is going to happen?”
I heard him sigh before sitting on the other side of the bed beside me.
“I don’t know, but I do know I won’t let anything happen to you.”
I blushed at what he said. “Thanks,” I whispered. I heard him get up and walk towards the door before calling him back. “Don’t leave me alone tonight,” I told him.
He didn’t say a thing for a good moment before walking back over and laying beside me once more.
“Why not?” He asked.
I sighed. “I don’t want to be alone tonight. Don’t think this is going to be a regular thing, mister! One night only.” I clarified.
“Yes, ma’am.” He said with a smirk on his face. The heat radiating off of him and the closeness of him caused me to easily slip off into a dream where I saw those damn dark brown eyes I couldn’t ever look away from.
