Chapter 3: Explanation & Mates?
I felt myself floating, Up, down, left and right in pitch blackness. I heard voices and I was trying to listen, but it was hard. I caught some conversation though. “...sorry, Alpha, but we’re not sure why she is in the state at the moment.” an unfamiliar voice said. I’m guessing Alpha/Kaden is there and I have a good guess that the other guy is the doctor.
“I don’t care, I just want her to wake up!” I heard Eden’s little voice. I wanted to wake up, to get out of this darkness surrounding me. But in here, I feel free, nothing can change and nothing can bother me like in the real world. Nothing.
I closed my light blue eyes for only a fraction of a second, but in the seconded, I wake up. When I opened my eyes I saw 4 people standing over me. I recognized Kaden/Alpha and Eden, but that was about it. I didn’t know the other two.
“Luna, welcome back.” the guy standing beside Kaden/Alpha said.
“What? Luna?” I said and squinted my eyes at the bright light.
“You gave us quite a scare there Luna, I need to do a few test and then you’ll be free to go.”
“What the hell is a Luna and who are you?” I said confused even more than I was before.
“I’m Jake, the doctor here in the pack.” He responded.
“What is a Luna and why do you keep calling me that?” I asked wanting to know answers.
He and Kaden/Alpha shared a look before Jake got back to work on starting the tests. “You’re okay, Leah.” I heard Eden’s sweet voice ring in my ear.
I looked at her and smiled. “Yeah, I hope so, Eden,” I told her. She smiled at me and I returned one.
“Okay, first I need everyone to leave so I can speak to her alone,” Jake said, meaning that Kaden/Alpha and Eden had to leave.
I heard Kaden/Alpha growl at that. “It won’t take long, Kaden, now get your sister and take her out.” They stared at one another for a while before Kaden/Alpha compiled and took Eden out.
“Good luck,” Eden said before she left.
Jake looked at me. “Okay, Luna,” He began.
“It’s Leah.” I said to him, “Stop calling me Luna, I don’t even know what that means!” I told him.
“Okay, calm down, Leah. I’m just going to ask you a series of questions and I want you to answer them truthfully, okay?” He told me.
“Okay,” I said.
He began the questions. “How old are you, Leah?”
That was an easy one. “16, just a few days ago,” I told him. He looked at me surprised. “What?” I said to him.
“Normally this doesn’t happen this late.” He muttered to himself.
“What?” I said to him in confusion.
“Nothing, okay so....”
He kept asking me questions for at least 30 minutes. Once he was done I was free to go, thank God cause I couldn’t stand a minute more! “Be careful, Leah.” He said as I exited the room.
There was Eden and Kaden/Alpha standing there waiting. “Alpha, follow me, I need to speak to you, privately,” Jake said and Kaden/Alpha followed him which leaves me with Eden.
“Come on! I’ve got so much to tell you!” Eden said and dragged me up the stairs I just now noticed.
“Wow, this place is big,” I said to her.
“You’ll get used to it.” She said like it was no big deal. We ended up in the bedroom that I woke up.
“Sit,” Eden said pointing to the bed. I sat and waiting for her to start talking. “Okay, so you want to what all of this wolf stuff means right?” She said.
“Yes, please!” I said, almost begged her. She giggled but began.
“You, Alayah Grace Kennedy are a werewolf, like the rest of us. You turn into a wolf, hopefully, like the rest of us.” She started.
“I’m a what!” I shouted a bit.
“You’re a werewolf, do I need to spell it out for you?” She asked.
“No, I’m good,” I told her. Eden nodded her head before she continued once more.
“Werewolves have been around forever! Usually, if you’re a werewolf, you’ll shift into your wolf after your 13th birthday. What you hear inside your head is your wolf talking to you. It comes when it’s time for you to shift into your wolf for the first time, and that wolf is with you forever.” She took a large breath, but before she could continue the door opened and revealed Kaden/Alpha.
He looked over at Eden. “Didn’t I tell you to wait on me.” He told her in a stern voice.
“Sorry Kaden, I was just excited!” She giggly.
Kaden/Alpha looked over at me. “Go, Eden, I need to talk to her, alone.” He said.
Eden’s face fell, “Okay, but I’m coming back later!” She skipped off out the door. Kaden/Alpha shut the door.
He turned to face me. “Alayah what did Eden tell you exactly.” He said wanting to know where he should start.
I sighed but began. “She told me that I was a werewolf, and somehow she knew my middle name which I thought was odd. Anyway, something about shifting into a wolf when you turn 13 and that the voice I keep hearing in my head is my wolf and that I get to start talking to my wolf when it’s time for me to shift for the first time or something like that.” I told him.
He took a seat on the couch and looked at me in the eyes, his brown ones boring into my light blue ones, neither one of us looked away. “Alayah, what I’m about to tell you is important and I don’t need you to go all crazy and run off when I tell you.” He said trying to make sure I was calm.
“Can’t be any crazier than this,” I muttered hoping he wouldn’t hear me, but he did.
“Yeah, it’s going to be a lot more crazy.” I looked over at him and motioned for him to begin.
“Alayah, you’re different somehow. Normal wolves change on or shortly after their 13th birthday, you, however, have not.” Kaden/Alpha began.
“Well no duh I’m not normal, apparently everyone I know loves to keep secrets about being a stupid wolf!” I said aloud, pissed off.
He gave me a look that said shut-up-or-something-bad-will-happen. I stayed quiet. “When did you start to hear your wolf talk to you?” He asked me.
“When I met you and your goons.” I flat out said.
“Be more specific,” He said.
“Ugh! Fine! It happened when I looked at you, specifically. Happy now!” I said crossing my arms as I lay down on the bed and close my eyes.
I heard him get up, I thought he was leaving, but when I opened my eyes he was looming over me. “Alayah, we’re not done talking yet.” He explained.
“Fine, what else do you have to tell me Alpha-Kaden, whoever you are!” I said loudly.
“You can call me Kaden first of all.” He answered.
Finally, at least I know what to call him now. “What did you wolf say to you, Alayah?” He questioned me.
“She said ‘mate’ but I don’t know what the hell that means! Heck, I didn’t even know these things existed until a few hours ago!” I heard him chuckle a bit before he continued.
“Yes, Alayah, your wolf said mate as in soul-mate. Please tell me you know what that means.” He said tired of explaining things.
“Yes, I’m not stupid! I know what soul-mate means!” I snapped.
“Good, because that’s what we are. Me and you.” He said slowly. I looked up at him as if he was crazy, which I really think he was. “All wolves have a soul-mate, some find them, others don’t, it’s just how the moon goddess has everything mapped out.”
I was still beyond confused. I rested my hand on my head and just lay there. “Just go, I need to process all of this.” more like I need to get the crap out of here. I have to think of a plan. “Wait, I have one question,” I said before he was about to get up and leave. He turned and looked at me.
“Why was that doctor guy or whoever that person was calling me Luna?” I asked him.
“Because that’s what you are, Alphas rule the pack, the she-alpha is called Luna that’s why he called you that.” then he left.
I noticed the window beside the bed was unlocked. A plan began to formulate in my head. ”No don’t do it, Leah! We need to stay with him. It’s not safe out there alone!"
I decided to try talking in my head to see if she’d respond to that. ”No, whoever you are, I’m going and there is nothing you can do to stop me."
I put a pair of jeans and a t-shirt I found on the dresser before sliding my shoes on that were placed at the door. “Time to go,” I said. I lifted up the window before looking how far of a jump it is.
“Two, stories, I’ll be able to make it, I hope,” I said. Before I jumped I looked over at the bed sheets. “Or I could tie a rope down for me to jump!” I said and got to work.
Once I was done and throw it out the window, it didn’t reach all the way, but it would have to do. I held onto the bed sheets for dear life and began to descend down the side of the building. Finally, I reached the ground.
I hadn’t heard any noises and so I thought it was clear for me to go. I took off running. I ran towards the woods, even though I had no clue as to where I was going, I was off. “No way in hell am I staying there,” I said as I ran.
No way this is all real. I won’t believe it, not for a split second. This is a dream, well more like a nightmare. I heard leaves rustling, I bet they noticed I was gone. Good, they need to know that, but I will make it home, I will.
"Turn around Alayah! My name is Cassie by the way."
“No, I will not turn around,” I said aloud.
"You will if you don’t want to get hurt! There is another pack coming this way if they catch you, you’re a goner!"
I listened and saw something move towards me, something that was in front of me. I had to go back, even though I didn’t want to at all. I quickly stopped and turned around and ran back to the pack that had taken me as their prisoner.
I wasn’t their prisoner, Kaden told me I was their Luna. No wonder I was in a bedroom instead of a basement with actual prisoners. I saw the familiar wolves of Dean, Kyle, and Kaden, and a bunch of others was with them.
They ran past me, and just stood there. Waiting, they were guarding me, but from who? Dean and Kaden had shifted back to their human forms and hurried over to me. Seriously, why can’t these people carry clothes with them!
“Leah, you need to go back to the pack house now, Dean, my Beta, will take you there. This is about to get ugly, but you need to go back now!” Kaden said.
“No, I will not!” I said standing my ground.
He stared at me, hard and coldly. “Yes you will, now get back or—” but he was cut off with someone howling. We all three turned to look at the other pack. I noticed 1 familiar wolf in that other pack.
