California, four years after Addie and Tia moved into the foster home…
Jimmy sat under the old oak tree in the front yard waiting for Addie to get home. He had left school knowing she was staying after but wanted to be cool so he left anyways, and was now regretting it. Even after four years of being around Addison every day… he still couldn’t get enough of her. She was fourteen now, and he was sixteen, and all he could think about was how to get her to realize just how much he was into her.
Mary had told everyone that Addison was staying after school that day because she wanted to join the math club at the Jr. High. Whenever he thought about just how damn smart Addison was, and so damn beautiful, yet so fucking dorky, it blew his mind. All the girls he knew who were just pretty, went around flaunting their shit to all the guys. But Addison, she was all about good grades and becoming a doctor so she could help people.
He sat back on the fence thinking about everything that Addison wanted to be, and then how his dream was to be a rockstar, and just how in the hell that was going to work. No one was ever going to tell him what he could or couldn’t do ever again, and he sure in hell was going to have the money to get everything that he ever wanted... and that included Addison!
After a while he saw some girls walking up the street that he knew to be friends that Addie hung out with, but he didn’t see Addison. But when he did, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. There was some tall blond hair guy that was walking next to his baby girl! This ass kept glancing down at Addison with a look he knew all too well. The douche kept smiling every time she said something, and then laughed.
Someone slapped him on his back, then Jones and Dax came over and sat next to him on the old wood fence watching the scene unfold in front of them. “Looks like Jimmy’s got some competition.” Jones teased.
“I don’t know why he never thought guys weren’t going to take notice of her? It’s obvious whenever our friends come over they can’t quit looking at her, hell anything with a dick can’t stop looking at her.” Dax laughed.
“You two need to shut the hell up! I’m sure he’s one of the other girl’s boyfriend or something.” Jimmy growled.
“Yeah, he looks totally into Bethany, or maybe it’s Nancy he’s diggin’ on.” Jones offered. “You know Dax, I think Jimmy might be right… that guy might be one of the OTHER girl’s boyfriend. He totally doesn’t look interested in Addie's hot little ass at all.”
Dax was smiling so big, Jimmy just wanted to beat the hell out of him. “You guys are a bunch of assholes, you know that!” He seethed.
That’s when the two girls started to giggle and walk ahead of Addison and the ass that was following her like a puppy. Then he watched the guy pull her under a jacaranda tree, and was standing in front of her with his hand rubbing the back of his neck. “Well from the looks of it, the kid wants Addie to be his girlfriend I think.” Dax stated to the both of them.
“Who the fuck does this guy think he is…” He growled jumping from the fence and started walking towards his baby girl and the asshole who thought he was going to take her from him.
“Oh shit, and there he goes.” He heard Jones laugh.
As Jimmy got to where Addie stood, he saw the guy glance over at him with a frown, then looked back down at the girl he was trying to talk to. When he was right in back of Addison, he glared at the ass who was glaring back at him now. “Addie, I need some help with my math homework. I’ve been waiting for you to come home for over an hour now.” He said behind her, making her jump at his voice, and then turned around in shock.
“Jimmy… I’ll be home in a minute.” She told him.
“What, is two plus two to hard for you to do on your own, smart guy?” The jock smirked thinking calling him stupid in front of Addie would make her consider this jock strap.
“Steven…” She answered turning back around.
“Yeah, maybe it is dip shit. Got a problem with that?” He growled back.
Addison’s head turned to the guy in front of her, then turned back around to him. “Okay fine, I’m coming home. But Steven wanted to ask me a question, so do you mind giving us a minute?” She said with that innocent look on her face, and deep down Jimmy groaned. She had no idea what the hell was going on with this douche, but he was going to put a stop to it right now!
This Steven didn’t look like he was getting the hint of the “this is my girl so back the fuck off” glare he was sending, and he knew all too well Addie would be pissed if he beat the shit out of this jock, not to mention his foster mom. Everyone in the house knew they had to do decent in school and stay out of trouble, that way the state would let them all stay together. So instead he went for a tactic that always worked on his girl. “Please Addie, you know I have band practice tonight, and the guys will kill me if I take forever to finish up my homework again.” He pleaded, not really giving a about the damn about the homework at all, but getting her away from the ass trying to steal her from him.
“Yeah, fine. I’m coming.” She sighed in that raspy voice rolling her eyes.
Jimmy grinned a cocky “I won” grin over at good ol’ Steve, who was now glaring hatefully back at him. But then Addie took a book out of Steve’s hands and smiled up at the ass. “I’m sorry Steven, but if I don’t help him, he won’t leave us alone until I do.” She explained. “But I’ll see you tomorrow in English class, right? So, you can ask me the question there.” She smiled.
After that, he could read all over this fucker’s face what he wanted from his Addie, and that wasn’t going to fucking happen! Now the two boys swapped facial expressions. Jimmy glared, while Steven grinned his “So, you thought you won” look back at him. “Yeah, that sounds good Addison. I’ll see you in the morning.” He answered, and then taking her by the arm… leaned down and kissed her cheek and walked off.
Addison touched her cheek and turned around to watch Steven leave, then back at Jimmy. “Why did he do that?” She asked.
“Come on Addie.” He growled taking her by the waist and started leading her back to the house. He could hear Jones and Dax laughing their fucking heads off when they walked up.
“What’s going on Addie?” Jones asked, but was smiling at Jimmy.
“Steven just kissed me… why do you think he did that?” She mumbled. “Do you think he likes me?” She asked him and the guys.
Dax jumped off the fence wrapping his arm around Addie’s shoulder, and pulled her away from Jimmy. “Oh chipmunk, I definitely think he likes you. And I bet he’s going to ask you to be his girlfriend tomorrow. What do you think about that?”
Her eyes widened. “Oh my gosh, do you really think so?” She asked, only to have Dax and Jones nodding their heads in answer. “You know Lynn and Margie were talking about how we all need real boyfriends. I’ve never had a real boyfriend before.” She stated still in Dax arms, and Jones walking alongside her smiling, knowing damn well Jimmy was about to lose his shit. “Might be kind of fun.” She answered.
“Hey, what the hell am I then?” Jimmy growled, trying to push his way through both of his friends that now had Addie in their grasp.
“You’re just the guy who likes to steal kisses, and tried to talk me into playing doctor with you Jimmy. I wouldn’t call that a boyfriend, and I’m not ten anymore.” She sighed, but then glanced up at Dax. “And Steven is really cute, and super sweet to me. Plus, he’s funny, on the football team, and we both love math too. We have a lot in common with each other.” She explained making Jimmy stop dead in his tracks in shock at what she was saying.
“Yeah chipmunk, he does sound like good boyfriend material. Don’t you think Jones?” Dax smirked looking back at Jimmy.
Jones arms stretched over his head and then rested behind his neck with a big grin on his face. “Hell yeah… the perfect match if you ask me.” He chuckled.
Jimmy's mouth dropped open as Dax and Jones walked Addie into the house and the screen door shut behind them. “What the fuck…?” He murmured.
Howie walked by shaking his head. “I told you what the girls were talking about, didn’t I?”
“Yeah, you did.” He sighed running his hands through his hair and trying to come up with a plan.
Mary Beth had turned the garage into a place for them to hang out and have band practice, without driving her crazy. So later that night, Addison sat on the old sofa reading. They had just finished up their practice, and he was ticked that Addison didn’t even bother to look at him at all while he sang. If she would have listened to the words he’d written, she would have heard what the hell he was singing about!
Jimmy sat there staring over at Addison, willing her to look his way, but with a book in her hand, she didn’t even glance up from the pages. She and Margie were both book-alcoholics. They could read anything, anywhere, any time, and be totally enthralled in what they were reading, and that meant not paying attention to a damn thing going on around them... including him! “Hey, baby girl, why don’t you let me teach you how to play the guitar?” He grinned, but she didn’t even bother to look up.
Jones leaned into Dax and chuckled. “I knew he was going to try something like this.”
“Yeah, it’s a pretty sad day when you have to win back a girl from some nerdy ass jock.” Dax chuckled back.
“So, is him teaching her to play the guitar supposed to make her like him or something?” Nickels asked, but then added... “I wonder what’ll happen tomorrow when he finds out Addie said yes to the guy?” He cackled.
Dax smirked over at Jimmy, who was just about ready to take the three of them out back to beat the shit out of them so they would shut their fucking pie holes. “Why don’t you guys shut the hell up.” He growled.
“I think when Addie has that guy walking her home tomorrow, holding her hand, we’ll all see a different side of Jimmy.” Dax told them out loud. “And if that guy tries to kiss her… I think we’ll see one crazy fucker losing his shit.” He said, and then they all laughed.
Jimmy was done with all of their shit. Addison wasn’t going to date some jock. He looked over at her, still reading and not paying attention to what was going on around her, even when the conversation going on was about him crushing on her, and did what he had to do to get her damn attention. “Addison!” He shouted out of nowhere.
She jumped out of her seat dropping the book she was reading to the floor, then glanced up at him. “Oh my gosh Jimmy, what?” She asked picking the book and started to flip through the pages to find her place… and started to read.
All the guy’s started laughing making Jimmy grumble. “Didn’t you hear me? I said I want to teach you how to play the guitar.” He smiled slyly.
“Yeah right…” She sighed rolling her eyes.
“Come on baby girl, it’ll take only a couple minutes.” He offered.
“But why?” She asked.
“Because he likes to touch you…” Jones whispered to the guys, making them chuckle, and Jimmy glare at the assholes.
“Because it might be something you like.” He answered.
“I don’t know.” She sighed.
“I’ll tell you what, if you don’t like it, or it’s too hard for you to understand, we’ll just stop.” He explained, adding the last part for extra insurance, knowing it would drive her crazy to be told that she can’t do something.
“Fine.” She said putting the book down and making her way over to him.
She reached out for his guitar that he held, but he shook his head. “No, I’ll put it on you. Just to make sure you have it on right.” He offered, hearing the guys snicker at his explanation.
After Addie had the guitar on, Margie put her book down, Tia leaned back against the sofa, Mindy laid on her stomach with her chin in her palms to watch, and Lynn crossed her arms over her chest kicking her feet back to see what the hell he was up to. But Addison, she sat on the stool eyeing him suspiciously. “Shouldn’t Dax, or Jones be teaching me how to play a guitar? I mean, you really don’t play that well, do you?” She asked him honestly.
That had all the boys shouting. “Ooow! She gottcha there Jimmy!” And “Dude, that’s so true!” was all he heard while they laughed, and the girls giggled. Well, Lynn chuckled.
“I can teach you how to play a couple cords.” He explained glaring over at the loud mouths giving him shit.
He stood in back of her, placing her hands in their right spots, trying to ignore the loud whispers coming from the sofa area. “See, he just wanted to find a way of touching her again.” Whispered Jones to the group making Addie’s head pop up, then back down to pay attention to what she was being taught.
“Okay baby girl, you pluck the cords and your fingers slide on the threads. Now move them with the string your hitting…” He explained.
His hand wrapped around hers moving her fingers along with his, and he was in heaven with her in his arms…and she didn’t even know it. They plucked, strummed, and played together, and after about fifteen minutes, she turned around and smiled at him. “I think I got it now Jimmy.”
His head was down by her face and their lips were so close, that he didn’t even realize what she said, only that he wanted to kiss her. But then her words sank in... “What?” He finally asked.
“I mean, I got it.” She told him.
“Got what?” He asked again, not sure what she was talking about.
“How to play the guitar.” She smiled taking his hands off.
Jimmy caught Howie's smirk as Addie pushed him away. “Are you sure?”
“Ah, yeah.” She mumbled as he shook his head and stood next to Tia as his baby girl looked to be figuring something out. “Dax, how do you do that slidy thing you do?”
“Chipmunk, what the hell are you talking about?” Dax chuckled.
“Okay maybe that’s the wrong word. What’s that thing when you hold all the strings down?”
“Are you talking about a power bar?” Dax answered.
“Yah, show me that!” She smiled almost bouncing in her seat.
Jimmy frowned as Dax got up making his way to Addie and then wrap his arms around her showing her how to do a couple frets. Her eyes followed his fingers and then she smiled again. “Okay, I got it.” She told him.
“Okay…” Dax said puzzled looking back at the guys. Then Addison did something that blew all their fucking minds… she played. She played that guitar like she’d been playing it for years. Bending frets, pull offs, power bars, and all of their mouths dropped. Not only that, but it seemed like the longer she played, the better she got.
When she finished, she smiled at all of them and Tia started clapping her hands energetically, to which all the girl’s joined in, with Lynn whistling. “Well, that was fun!” She laughed getting up and handing the guitar back to Jimmy.
He held up the instrument, looking at the old used thing that Mary bought him for Christmas, in a whole new light. He turned it around in his hands making sure this was his guitar, and not some kind of joke the guys were playing on him. “Addie, how the hell did you play like that?”
She shrugged her shoulder heading for the garage door. “I don’t know? When you showed me all those things, and moved my hands I could kind of see it. Well maybe that’s not right, because I could hear it to, but it was easy.” She explained. “Hey, I’m going to go get a soda, I’ll be right back.” She told the girls before waking out the door.
“Damn it!” He fumed going after her.
He could her the girls giggle and the guys starting to laugh as he closed the door behind him. When he caught up with Addie, he took her by the arm and pulled her behind the shed in the back yard needing to talk to her. “Hey, I needed to tell you something.”
Her brow furrowed together as she pulled her arm free and then crossed them over her chest. “Yeah, what?”
He ran his hand through his hair thinking of a smooth way of saying what he wanted to tell her, then his hands dropped to his side. “I don’t want you talking to that guy Steven anymore.” Was all he could say moving closer to her.
“Why, I like him and he’s really nice.” She answered rolling her eyes.
He reached out taking her by the waist pulling her closer. “Didn’t our first kiss mean anything to you?” He asked making her blush and her eyes dart down to his chest making him grin.
“I guess so, but that was a long time ago.”
“A long time ago? Well, what about all those other kisses I give you. I thought you liked those too?” He asked trying to get her to look at him. “What, you don’t like it when I kiss you?” He mumbled kissing her warm red cheek softly.
“Yes, I do like it.” She answered.
“Well if you say yes to this guy, I won’t be able to give you sweet little kisses anymore baby girl.” He explained pulling her into his arms. She looked up at him with those eyes that made him melt, and his heart sped up.
“But I know you, you’re just messing around when you kiss me, and I don’t want that anymore. I want a real boyfriend Jimmy, one who will hold my hand we when walk to school, or are in the halls, wants to take me to the dances, and won’t be embarrassed to say that I’m his girlfriend.” She explained, and then frowned. “Steven will be like that with me, and that’s what I want. I don’t want someone who pulls me behind the shed when no ones looking to kiss me, and then pretend it never happened.”
“What if I told you I wanted to be your boyfriend?” He whispered kissing her neck.
“I’d say you’re lying.” She told him, but her arms loosened going around his waist.
“No baby girl I’m not. I want to be your boyfriend.” He confessed, then kissed her lower lip before he kissed her lips gaining entrance with his tongue to her soft mouth. When he’d thoroughly kissed her enough, he pulled back smiling down at her, loving the way her eyes watched him.
“Are you asking me to be your girlfriend Jimmy?”
“Yes.” He grinned.
“One that all your friends will know about, and not just something at home, right?” She asked to clarify.
“That’s exactly what I’m saying.” He answered.
“So, you’re going to tell all your friends at school that you’re with me now? And, you’re going to pick me up from school every day… like I’m your real girlfriend and not your little sister?” She whispered.
“Baby girl, I never thought of you as my sister… but yes, to all of it.” He said making his way to her lips once again. He needed to taste that sweet mouth, maybe talk her into going a little further with him tonight since they were now boyfriend and girlfriend, but she wiggled free from him and took a step back “Addison, what the hell?” He growled.
“I don’t believe you.” She stated crossing her arms at him. “If what you’re saying is true, then go in the garage and tell all the guys that I’m your girlfriend, your only girlfriend, from now on. If you can’t do that, then I’m saying yes to Steven tomorrow morning when he asks me out.” She told him defiantly.
He stood there blinking a couple times wondering when she got so ballsy, but then she shook her head and started to walk away. But before she did, he took her by the arm and pulled her into the garage where their family sat. Everyone’s head popped up as they burst through the door. “I just asked Addison to be my girlfriend, and she said yes. So now she’s mine, got it!” He proclaimed and then took her in his arms and kissed her right then and there.
“I’d say it’s about damn time.” Lynn smiled glancing over at Dax.
“Yeah, you’ve been robbing the cradle since she was ten man. Might as well make the shit official.” Dax laughed making the rest of the group join in with him.
