Summary

About how a young teenager found her first love at a time when she thought that the world was not a place for her to live in - at a time when she lost all hope. Love shows up with a person you never expect it to. It always happens that way and nobody can stop it. See, what one must understand is that distance makes the heart fonder and time makes it harsher.

No Second Chances

When he first saw her,

His heart began to flutter;

When she smiled at him,

Goosebumps crept across his skin.

Her name was Alia, she said;

He told her his name was Shawn;

The smile that appeared across her face

Made his heart skip in delight.

Over a year passed since then

And he had not met her again.

He hoped to see her once more

To see her talk,

To see her laugh.

Then one day,

He got his chance,

She was still the same—

The same smile,

The same laugh.

She appeared happy

To see him again,

And so was he.

He stared at her in wonder,

Wondering if she would answer

The one question

That had been haunting him

All year round.

He opened his mouth

She looked at him expectantly,

But his voice failed him

And he closed it again.

A small voice

Whispered in his head:

“Grab this chance,

For there are no second chances.”

Her brother entered the scene just then,

To offer her a dance;

She looked at Shawn once,

And politely declined.

Moments passed, before she said:

“What is it that troubles your mind?”

Startled, he looked up,

He smiled, as a small voice

Whispered in his head:

“Grab this chance,

For there are no second chances.”

“Well,” he replied,

“I was wondering,

If you would grace me

As my partner tonight.”

The delight on her face

Was a sight to behold—

One that he would cherish forever.

He knew then

That he made the right choice.
