Chapter 5

When eden awoke the strangest feeling of luminous warmth reverberated throughout her. As if she had been bathed in a pleasant glow of heat.

Her eyelashes fluttered and a bright light greeted her eyes.

She groggily took in her surroundings and noticed she was in a small simple room with gold and white interior.

She realized she was lying in a twin sized bed with silken cream colored sheets that

The sunlight that streamed inside indicated that it was morning. Eden groaned and sat up, pulling the covers back and stepping out of bed.

Her knees immediately buckled beneath her causing her to fall.

Her graceful descent to the floor was halted by none other than the notorious Alpha Ílios himself.

He swept her up into his arms and promptly placed her back in the bed.

“Not that I mind holding you in the slightest, but standing up is would not be a wise idea at the moment.”

Eden’s cheeks burned in embarrassment as she sat up.

A cold brush of air swept over her and she came to the abrupt realization that was was in nothing but her black bra and underwear.

“You asshole! Did you take my dress off?” She accused, rapidly covering herself with the blankets.

“Surprisingly no. Despite what you may think of me I would not remove a woman’s clothing without her consent,” he replied, folding his arms across his chest.

He had taken off his suit coat and his tie. His white dress shirt was rumpled with several buttons undone at the top and the sleeves rolled up to his elbows.

His golden hair was tousled once more and he looked thoroughly amused at the entire situation.

“Then who took my clothes off?” She challenged narrowing her eyes.

“Let me guess. You had one of your female staff members do it?”

Alpha Ílios titled his head to the side ever so slightly. Rays of sunlight reflecting off into his hair.

“No. That would be inappropriate as well.”

Alpha Ílios took several steps closer to the bed so he looked down to her.

“If you insist on knowing, it was you who managed to remove your gown in your sleep,” he mused.

Eden’s eyes widened and her mouth gaped.

She raised the covers and peered under them and surely enough the beautiful sparkling silver gown rested bunched up below her feet.

Eden’s head pounded painfully.

“Alpha Ílios what happened last night?”

The man grimaced.

“Please, call me Malcolm.”

“Great we’re on a first name basis now,” she muttered. The situation she was currently in already felt entirely too intimate and personal than was comfortable.

Malcolm rose a brow.

“Does that bother you?”

His expression was serious but his eyes twinkled with silent laughter and unconditional secrets.

“You didn’t answer my question, what happened last night?” She evaded.

“A man named Richard DiCarillo wanted me to sign a contract, I refused and he reacted rather violently.”

Malcolm sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

As he raised his arm a red splotch on his chest was revealed, staining the white shirt.

Eden gasped.

“Oh my god you were shot?”

Malcolm shrugged.

“You were in the line of fire and when I pushed you out of the way you tripped and hit your head rather hard,” he muttered leaning down and out stretching his hand toward her face.

Eden instinctively recoiled.

“Relax, love. I need to check for infection.”

Eden pressed her lips into a line and nodded.

His fingertips gently pushed her hair behind her ear. He placed his other hand under her jaw, tilting her face up toward his.

Eden’s heart pounded as she tightly clutched the cream silken sheet against her throat. She desperately tried to ignore the apparent underlying hint of affection he touched her with.

The lazy sunlight and her lack of attire added a peculiar sort of unspoken sexual tension. It clouded the room like smoke. Eden found it nearly impossible to breathe

His eyes examined the small wound on her temple and Eden forced herself to look anywhere except him.

“The abrasion does not hold any indication of infection,” he concluded as he pulled away.

As he backed away Eden let out a shaky breath she hadn’t realized she had been holding.

“However, I am wary of a concussion. You should take the next few days off.”

Eden nodded and swallowed. Her throat felt dry and her hands trembled slightly.

“I am terribly sorry for what happened last night, Eden. I put you in danger and your life at stake.”

Eden bit her lip.

“Does that sort of thing happen frequently?”

“More than you would believe.”

“Does working here mean my well being will always be in danger?”

Malcolm’s eyes hardened and his brow furrowed.

“I regrettably was quite distracted last night. But I promise you no harm will be inflicted upon you, ever.”

Eden couldn’t help but smirk. Typical alpha male thinking he could protect anyone from anything.

“Then what do you call this?” She teased, pointing to her head.

Malcolm frowned.

“Like I said previously, I was distracted. It will not happen again I guarantee it.”

“I was just teasing you... thank you. For saving me. Are you going to be okay?” She asked looking at the crimson splotch on his shirt.

“Yes I will be quite alright.”

Eden laughed softly.

“Alpha Ílios-”

“Malcolm.”

Eden rolled her eyes.

“Malcolm could you please get me some clothing and tell me where I could locate my car? I would very much like to go home now.”

Malcolm smirked, revealing his dimples.

Eden inhaled rather sharply.

“You may have a concussion. You are in no state to drive.”

“Well then could you please have one of your chauffeurs drive me home?”

“It is a Sunday. My chauffeur’s day off, I’ll drive you home.”

“Don’t you have some other staff member that can do that?”

“Yes.”

Eden stared at him.

He simply stared at her in return.

“You were almost killed last night because of me, it is the least I can do.”

Eden sighed.

“Okay.”

~~~~~~~
The car ride was silent.
Malcolm had given her a pair of black slacks and a very large white button down shirt. Along with her purse that had been tucked away in the staff room from the night before.
The uniform she wore last night went missing. After all she did leave it in a restroom where Beatrice had given her the silver gown.
Eden played absentmindedly with a loose thread at the edge of her shirt.
“Have you lived in wales your whole life?”
Malcolm smirked.
“No, I have not.”
“Where were you born?”
“Somewhere far from here.”
Eden smiled mischievously.
“You don’t like talking about yourself do you?”
“Not particularly, no.”
“What do you do in your free time?”
Malcolm rolled his eyes.
“I do not usually have time to spare.”
“Is that why you’re taking two hours out of your day to drive me home?”
Malcolm gave her a look. His sea green eyes were heated.
“No. It is not why.”
“Then why?”
“So many questions,” he noted.
“So few answers.”
Malcolm smirked.
“If you must know my schedule is mostly flexible except for a flight that is scheduled to depart at four.”
“Where are you going?” She asked resting her chin on her hand. A playful smile on her lips.
“Iceland.”
“Why Iceland?”
“I am visiting a few friends. Along with some business.”
“Malcolm?” His name seemed to practically flutter from her lips. As if she had said his name millions of times before.
“Yes, love?”
“Exactly how much time do you want me to take off work?”
“Three days. If you need anymore time to rest just contact me.”
Eden nodded.
Malcolm followed Eden’s directions and eventually pulled into the apartment complex parking lot.
Before Eden could even open her door Malcolm had already beat her to it.
He opened the car door and outstretched his hand to her.
Eden blinked in confusion but took his hand, allowing him to help her out of the car.
He had insisted upon walking Eden up to her apartment. She reluctantly allowed him to do so.
“If you throw up be sure to go see a doctor, luckily your pupils look fairly normal. I am not too worried about a concussion at this point but be sure to get some rest alright, darling?”
Eden bit her lip, nervously playing with her apartment key.
“Okay I will.”
Malcolm carefully took her hand in his. He rose her hand upward and gently brushed his lips over the back of her hand.
“Take care, Eden,” he whispered. His hot breath hitting against her skin and his glimmering green eyes looking up at her.
Eden’s breath hitched and all she could do was nod.
And with that Malcolm smirked, walking away as he did so.
“By the way, black is a great color on you,” he added.
