Another month has passed now since Hailey had gone into her coma. She has been out for almost 5 months now. By now we should have been going on dates and taking pictures together. Making memories together yeah would last a lifetime. Ones I would tell my children. Even if Hailey isn’t their mother. I would have told them about my first love and how amazing and strong she is.
I am currently sitting at the desk in Hailey’s room. Her homework was still laid out how she had left it before the accident. Her writing was so neat. I could recognize it anywhere. Every week or so I find myself in here. I write letters to her, so she can read them when she wakes up. I tell her about how my days go and how they could have been better with her by my side. I tell her how my internship is going and how Andrew (Mr. Tait) was keeping me busy with paperwork and filing that needed to be done. But when it was time to see Hailey he always let me leave. He himself had come to see me once while I was visiting her. He brought her some peonies to put beside her hospital bed.
So here I am now, writing to Hailey once again.
I miss you. Words can’t describe how much I miss you. Your soft blonde hair and beautiful eyes. Your laugh, I’ve watched and re-watched all the videos I have of you laughing and smiling. I can’t wait to hear that laugh again.
Chase finally landed a job, he’s working down in the bar district at a club. He’s bartending which should work out well with his face. He’s not scary enough to be a bouncer. Mr. Tait said I can come to court with him this weekend and watch him in action. I’ve heard from other people that he is terrifying while in the courtroom. I’m really looking forward to It.
I went for a run this morning, even stopped by the cafe. Definitely not the same without you running beside me.
Last we heard from your mom was that she was on her way home now and will come visit when she has the time too.
I can’t wait for you to wake up Hailey, I miss you more than anything in the entire world.
I love you. I love you. I love you.
I folded up the letter and placed it under Hailey’s pillow. I didn’t know where else to put them and figured she’d find them there when she came home.
Leaving Hailey’s room, I walked into the kitchen to see Julie sitting on the counter while Chase stood over the stove cooking something. It didn’t smell half bad. We all knew Hailey was the cook in the family.
“Hey man what you making?” I asked walked over to the two of them. Stopping at the fridge to grab a drink.
“Chase is attempting to cook me lunch” Julie replied to me as she patted Chase on the shoulder.
Chase looked over to me and smiled. I didn’t see him this happy in a long time. Seeing him like this brightened my mood, chase had always been like a brother to me and I only ever want to see him happy.
I sat down at the table with the two of them and they asked me questions about how the internship was going and about the recent trials that had been happening in the city. I explained everything to them, talking about my future with people who I know care made me feel so happy. But it wasn’t the same kind of happiness that Hailey brought me. Speaking of Hailey, Chase had received a call from her doctor today saying he had some news about her but that it wasn’t urgent and that we could take our time coming down to see him. We had all agreed that we would go down after we had eaten lunch today.
After finishing up with lunch I walked back into my room to pack a few things to take with me to the hospital. I had a lot of paperwork that needed to be done for Mr. Tait and figured I might as well do some of it while I’m at the hospital with Hailey. Grabbing my phone, I realized I had a message from a random number that I didn’t have in my phone.
Hey Link! Its Jordan from the hospital, I got your number off Halley’s chart hope you don’t mind. I realize you’re probably going through a tough time right now and I just wanted to let you know that if you need a friend I’m here! Maybe we could grab a coffee sometime and talk? Hope to see you soon! J
The fact that Jordan got my number off Halley’s chart is a little weird to me, but she seems like she just wants to be friendly. And she’s right, I really could use a friend right now. As much as I love to chase he has it worse right now and I feel like a bad friend ranting to him about how much I miss her when he misses her and the rest of his family right now too.
I texted her back to let her know I was coming by today and maybe if she had time or a break we could grab a coffee from the nasty hospital cafeteria.
Leaving my room, I had a stack of paperwork under my arm and walked to meet chase and Julie in the living room.
Chase was currently out in the hallway talking to Hailey’s doctor, I wasn’t allowed to listen in because I wasn’t considered family. But chase had said he would fill me in on everything that the doc had to say. Julie had to leave because she had class to attend to but promised to stop by later to hear the news. I was sitting at the small table that was beside Hailey’s bed. I had gotten use to the constant slow beeps that came from the monitors she was attached to. I began hearing those beeps everywhere I went and even in my sleep. It was a song I would probably be hearing for the rest of my life.
Jordan walking through the door brought he out of my thoughts, she was smiling as she walked over to me. She took a seat across from me and was looking at all the papers I had spread across the small table.
“Is this all for your program? Gosh I thought I had a lot of paperwork to do!” Jordan said while moving some of the papers around to reveal more underneath.
“No actually I’m doing an internship with Andrew Tait, this is his work I’m trying to help with his upcoming case... he’s a defence attorney” I said putting down the folder I had currently in my hand and looking over to her.
“Oh! Yeah, I know him.... My moms actually Brittany Polsten...” she said. I laughed a little, what a coincidence.
“Ah I see, so your mom is prosecutor of the case that I’m trying to help Mr. Tait win...” a thought crossed my mind and I started to take the papers and folders back off the table. I couldn’t have her seeing something that would ultimately help her mother with the trial.
“Oh! No no! You don’t have to worry about me! My mom and I aren’t really on the best of terms right now, she’s not too happy that I decided to be a nurse and not follow in her footsteps. You can trust me!” she replied placing her hand over top of mine for a moment before pulling it back away.
“So! Do you think you guys can win the case? I over hear my mom talking about it a lot, but I don’t know much about it” she said leaning back in the chair and looking around the room.
“I’m not actually sure, its a difficult one. Probably the hardest case I’ve helped with. I hoping to find something in these papers that could help us out but so far nothing.”
Jordan and I talked back and forth about the case for about 20 minutes before she had to leave to return to doing her rounds, but she did end up finding something in the papers that I could show to Andrew, we agreed to meet up later and she was going to help me some more.
Short yes I know I’m sorry! Please be patient with me!
