Chapter Nineteen: News
I was sat nervously in the
doctors waiting area, waiting impatiently for my name to be called. It
had been seven weeks since the wedding, and Kyle was away, in Canada,
filming, so I was here alone. I also hadn't been able to get a hold of
Kyle, to tell him why I was at the doctors on my own. I had thought of
asking Katie, but Ila had chicken pox, so she was tired and didn't
really want to leave her baby while she was ill, which is why I didn't
ask her, because I knew that she would come with me, because that's just
her, she's a really good friend, but she needs to look after her baby
It was just after eleven o'clock in the morning, and my appointment was at eleven fifteen. I really wished that Kyle was here with me, but he wasn't due home for another three days, and if the results come back with what I think they will come back as, then I don't really want to tell him over the phone.
"Rosetta Blake" the receptionist called out, and I quickly made my way over to her, "It's up the stairs, turn left and it's the red door on the left"
I thanked her and then followed her directions up to the doctor's office, and knocked on the door.
"Come in." was heard from in the room.
I quickly made my way into the room and sat down in the chair at the side of the doctor's desk.
"Hello Rosetta, what seems to be the problem?"
I arrived at the apartment just over an hour later, quickly letting myself in, and headed towards the kitchen, taking off my shoes and coat as I walked through, to make myself some lunch.
For the next two days I busied myself around the apartment, making sure that everything was nice a tidy. On the second day, the Wednesday, I left the apartment for the second time that week, the first time
being Monday, when I went to the doctors, and went to the supermarket, to stock up the cupboards for when Kyle came home tomorrow.
Because I didn't drive, I had to get the bus, which also meant that I had to take about five filled shopping bags onto the bus with no help, and feeling paranoid that everyone knew about me and Kyle.
I got home, safely two hours after I had left for the supermarket. Placing all of my bags on the floor, I dug into my pockets, looking for my keys. I quickly got into the apartment, kicking the door behind me.
I headed into the kitchen, and placing all of the bags on the counters, I was just about to start putting them away when the main phone rang, I huffed, but then thought that it may be Kyle telling me that he will be late, I quickly hurried over to the phone, in the small living room, and picked it up just before it hit the fourth ring.
"Hello?" I asked, out of breath, for running around today.
"Hello, is Rosetta Blake there please?"
"Speaking" I replied, knowing that it was the doctor.
"We have your test results, would you be able to come in?"
"Could you tell me over the phone, please?"
"Of course" and so they did, after I confirmed who I was.
Ten minutes later I was dancing around the kitchen to my iPod, on shuffle, so one minute I'm listening to Pink and the next I'm listening to Christina Perri, it was plugged into its docking station next to the oven, putting the food way. The music, or my singing, must have been loud, because I didn't hear the apartment door opening or heavy things being placed in the hallway, but I did feel the strong arm being wrapped around my waist, which caused me to jump, let out a small scream and try to get out of the persons arms, before they quietened me.
"Be quiet Rosetta, or the neighbours will call the police on me, for trying to kidnap my own wife" He whispered in my ear, and I immediately stopped moving and twisted around in his arms, wrapping my own around his neck as I stood on my tip toes and pulled him closer to me, resting my head on his shoulder, and placed a kiss at the base of his neck.
"Kyle, you're back" I sighed happily into his shoulder.
"Yeah, we finished this morning and with the time zones, I thought I could make it back in time for tea, but watching you dance like that, I'm glad I got home early"
I looked up at him, about to say something about being cheeky, but he cut me off with a hard kiss to my lips, "No more talking"
He pulled back when we both needed to breathe, but rested his forehead against mine and placed one of his hands behind my neck and the other was slowly moving its way towards my bottom, "Have you finished putting everything away?"
"Yeah" I breathed out, still out of breath.
"Then I want to show you how much I've missed you, these past three weeks"
His hand on my neck moved to my hip and he pulled me close to him, so that there was no space between our bodies and he got a mischievous look in his eyes.
"OK" was the only word I got out before he smashed his lips to mine, bending slightly at the knees and slid his hands around to my bottom, pausing, and then continuing on to my thighs, where he lifted me up, causing me to wrap my legs around his waist. And then he carried me to our room, where he laid me down gently on our bed, crawled over me to continue kissing and then we both proceeded to take each other's clothes off.
A few hours later, after we'd welcomed each other home, and had a short nap, I decided that it was time to tell Kyle the news.
"Ky" I whispered softly, just encase he was still asleep.
I started to sit up, pulling the blanket with me. "I don't know how to tell you this"
Kyle looked over at me, and must have seen the nervous look on my face, because he sat up as well and took my right hand into his.
"What's wrong? Did something happen?"
"Nothing happened really, I just don't know how to tell you"
"Well start from the beginning"
"OK, well I hadn't been feeling well for a few days-"
"Why didn't you tell me?" he interrupted me.
"I didn't want to worry you, anyway, I went to the doctor's on Monday, and they called me back with the results about twenty minutes before you got home"
"Well what did they say?"
"That I'm pregnant Kyle"
We sat in silence for a few seconds, before I started to get worried, we had talked out having children, but we agreed to wait a few years.
He cut me off again, "We're having a baby?" He stuttered out, before smiling widely at me, when I nodded.
"We're having a baby!" He called out loudly, before wrapping his arms around me and kissing me. "This is amazing news"
"You think so?" I smiled widely back at him as he nodded.
"We're going to be a little family" He then pulled the blanket off me and placed his hands on my stomach, and then placed a kiss on it, but not before whispering something to quiet for me to hear against me, before looking back up at me.
"Did they say how far along you are?"
"They said around six weeks, but I have an appointment with an OB/GYN tomorrow at three"
"Okay then, but I think we should wait a few weeks to tell everyone, just to be on the safe side?"
"Yeah that makes sense, but I won't be able to keep this a secret for too long"
"Me neither, why don't we wait until you're around 12 weeks?"
And that was the last conversation that we had that night. We celebrated the news of the baby and then, after saying that we loved each other we both fell into a peaceful sleep.
I'm not sure how, but we managed to keep the fact that me and Kyle were going to have a baby from everyone, But I think his mother was suspicious of us. We went to the OB/GYN then day after I found out I was pregnant, and learnt that I was actually seven weeks pregnant.
It had been six weeks since then and me and Kyle were heading over to his parents' house, where everyone was gathering for a big Sunday meal, and Kyle thought that this would be a could time to tell them about the baby, and because he was leaving again, for Japan this time, in two days.
So, here we are, in Kyle's new silver Renault megane, he had almost traded in the motorbike for it, but I persuaded him not to, heading to his parents' house, to tell them that their twenty-one year old son is going to give them a grandchild, with his twenty year old wife.
We arrived at their house within ten minutes, and just before we got out of the car, Kyle took both of my hands in his.
"It's going to be okay, you don't have to worry" he tried to reassure me.
"I just don't know if they will think this is good or bad"
"Rosie, we're married now, so if we decide that we want a baby then we will have a baby, okay? And our family and friends will understand that"
He gave me a soft kiss to my lips and squeezed my hands at the same time, "Let's do this then"
We both got out of the car at the same time, and Kyle wrapped his arm around my waist as we headed up to the house.
We were all sat around the table, waiting for the men to come back in and take their seats. The Blake's had this new tradition sort of, now that we were all moving on in our lives and careers, where we all tell everyone if there is any big news with us that week, we go around the table, starting with the youngest, which would be Marie, because Ila can't talk properly yet, and it goes up in couples, so it would be Katie and Mile's next, because Katie is younger than me and Miles is younger than Kyle and so on.
The men came back into the room and each took their seats, Kyle taking my hand under the table, kissing my cheek and then whispering if I was okay.
I nodded and smiled back at him and could see Clara watching us from the corner of my eyes, with a small smile on her face.
"Okay then, Marie, why don't you start?" Kyle's dad, Mark, said once everyone was sat back down.
"Okay, I have a dance performance on Saturday, and I would like you all to come"
Everyone around the table quickly agreed, including me, apart from Kyle.
"I'm sorry Marie, but I'm going away again in a few days and I won't be back until the end of August" He told her sadly.
"Okay, but we have an end of summer recital on to at the beginning of September, will you be able to come to that one?" Marie also looked sad, but I knew that she understood that Kyle's job took him far away from home.
"I'll try my hardest" He assured her, and in return she smiled widely at him.
"Katie, Miles, do either of you have news?"
"We've managed to find Ila a day care, for a good price too" Katie said.
"Oh yeah, which one?" Clara asked them.
"It's actually the one that Rose will be starting at in September," Miles' said, smiling over at me, from his seat opposite Kyle, who was sat to my right.
"Really?" I said excitedly, as I had finished from the nursery that I was previously two months ago, I had been looking for nurseries and day cares, and I had found one, 'Sunny Day Nursery', they were getting ready to open in September, just needed a few more staff members, so that the ratio worked.
"Yeah" Katie replied.
"That's great guys, we're all really happy for you" Mitchell added in.
"Okay, Kyle, Rose, how about you too?" Mark said, and I could see Clara almost bouncing from excitement in her seat.
"Um yea, Kyle why don't you tell them?" I looked at Kyle and saw that he was trying to fight off a smile, he knew that I was nervous, but I also knew that he wanted to be the one to tell everyone.
"Okay, well, Rose and I are having a baby"
"Ohh," Clara smiled widely, "I knew it, Kyle's been acting just like his father did when I was pregnant with Mitchell, and you have that pregnant look to you"
"Really?" I asked her.
"Yes, he was so protective, he would hardly ever let me out of his sight"
"Yeah, Kyle barely even lets me go to the toilet unattended" I giggled, but when I saw the sulky look on Kyle's face I kissed his cheek, "I love you" I whispered to him and that got him to smile and whisper it back.
"This great news" Katie said, "Ila will get a little cousin, her own age, to play with now."
"How far along are you?" Mark asked.
"Just over twelve weeks, we wanted to make sure everything was okay before we told you"
"And it was very difficult not telling any of you" Kyle added.
"I bet." Miles' laughed.
Everyone congratulated us one more time before carrying on around the table. No one else really had much news, so we all moved into the living room for a film and dessert, which was vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and two cookies.
We had all finished by six, and I was starting to get tired, so Kyle and I said a quick goodbye to everyone before headed back to our apartment.
"You know," I started just as we walked into the apartment, "I think it's time we started looking for a house, you know, with the baby and everything"
"You're right, but I'm leaving in two days, so why don't we both look at some while I'm gone and then, when I get back, we can pick the best one? We'll still have plenty of time from September to find the perfect one and move in"
"That sounds like a plan," I smiled at him, and he smiled back,
"But you just reminded me that you are leaving soon for more than two months," I started pulling him towards our bedroom, "So we better make sure that the both of us are fulfilled by the time you leave."
We smiled at each other, before he picked me up and ran towards our bedroom, from which we didn't leave for the next two days, unless we needed to use the bathroom or to eat.
