Chapter Twenty-Six: Shock
managed to arrive at the hospital not even twenty minutes later, and we
all quickly made our way into the hospital. Three of the officers were
staying at the hospital with us, they were going to stay outside, to
stop the press from getting into the hospital.
I quickly made my way to the reception desk, with Anthony in my arms, and Rowan's baby bag on my left shoulder.
"How can I help you?" The receptionist asked, looking up when I set Anthony down on the edge of her desk.
"My husband and daughter were brought in about two hours ago." I rushed out.
"OK ma'am, what are their names?"
"My daughter is Rowan Blake and my husband is Kyle Blake." I lowered my voice slightly when I said Kyle's name.
The woman looked at me shocked for a moment, probably wondering if I was joking or not.
"OK ma'am, I'm going to need to see your ID."
"Of course," I replied, placing the baby bag on the desk and looking for my purse with one hand. I quickly passed the purse to her, "It's in there, could you take it out for me, I can't open it with one hand."
"OK." She opened it, and I knew that the first thing she would see was the picture of Kyle and I with the children on the Christmas just gone, my ID was in the slot behind it.
She pulled out the ID and studied it for a few seconds before pressing a button and speaking through it, "Security to the front desk please," she repeated it again and then turned to look at me, "Security will take you up the see your husband and daughter."
"Thank you." I smiled at her as she put the ID back into my purse and then put the purse back into the baby bag, before passing the bag to me. She also gave me a piece of paper and a pen and I wrote down the names of the people who could come into Kyle's room, it was manly just family, close friends and doctors.
"I'll send a doctor in to look at your arm and neck." She said, just as a security guard appeared.
"Is everything ok, Judy?" he asked her, looking at me as I moved Anthony from the desk to the floor and took his hand in mine.
"Yes, but could you take Mrs Blake and her son up to see her husband please, Jake and Phil are guarding his room." She answered.
"Of course, follow me." The guard told me, and took to baby bag off me, so that I wasn't struggling.
"OK." I replied, and followed the guard towards the lifts at the end of the corridor.
"He's on the second floor." He told me, as we stepped into the lift.
"OK, thank you for doing this."
"It's no problem."
We stood in silence for a few seconds, before the doors opened and we stepped out.
"His room is right around this corner." He said, just before we turned said corner and I saw two more security guards outside of a room about half way down the corridor, which I guessed was where Kyle and Rowan were.
"Guys, this is Mrs Blake and her son, their Mr Blake's family." He told the two men as we reached them.
"Nice to meet you." The broader one with short black hair said to me, with the smaller and longish blonde haired one nodded at me and then opened the door for us, and the security guard that had brought here walked with us into the room and put the baby bag on the floor next to the cot that Rowan was in.
"We've been told to tell you that he's been in and out of consciousness for a while, the doctor should be back soon and the baby's fine." He said, and then left the room after I mumbled a 'Thanks'.
I walked Anthony over to the chair on the left side of Kyle's bed, and sat him in it, then walked over to Rowan's cot, and saw that she was just waking up.
I smiled down at her as she slowly opened her eyes and wriggled slightly in the cot, "Hey baby," I said and then stroked her cheek as she stared at me with her eyes now wide open.
I glanced at the clock that was above the door and saw that is was almost time for Rowan's evening feed, before she went down for the night.
A few minutes later I was shaking the baby's bottle, when the door opened and a young man, that didn't look that much older than Kyle walked in and a woman that looked to be in her mid-late thirties, followed behind him.
"You must be Mr Blake's wife," The man started, once he spotted me, "I'm Dr Daniels, and this is Nurse Williams." He gestured to the woman he came in with, who took the bottle from me, telling me that she would heat it up for me, then left the room as I answered the Doctor.
"Yes, and this is our son Anthony." I gestured to Anthony, who had pulled the blanket off of the back of the chair, wrapped it around himself and was just watching us with tired eyes.
I Anthony a drink from the jug of water that was set on the side, and gave it to him, with a straw that was also there and kissed him on the head, before going over to Rowan and picking her up to feed her, as the Nurse came back in and gave me the bottle, I smiled in thanks at her, as she then went about checking Kyle's vitals.
Dr Daniels made his way over to Anthony, who was barely conscious now.
"Hello Anthony, I'-" He started to say, but I interrupted him.
"There's no point in doing that, he's deaf." I said, as I swayed slightly, feeding Rowan.
He looked shocked for a second before quickly covering it up, "Well I know some sign language, but please tell me if I get anything wrong."
Dr Daniels signed 'My name is' and then turned to me, "What's Doctor?" He asked.
I quickly showed him and he turned back to Anthony, finishing what he was saying, to which Anthony smiled slightly in his sleepy haze, before handing the Doctor his drink, then signing his own name as he finally fell asleep.
Nurse Williams told Dr Daniels what Kyle's vitals were, and then the Doctor turned back to me and smiling.
"Well Mrs Blake, your husband has suffered from a minor concussion and a broken leg, but other than that he seems just fine."
"Thank you," I told him, then whispered quietly to myself, but obviously not quite quiet enough because the Doctor heard me, "The press is going to have a field day with this."
"What do you mean?"
I looked at him weirdly for a moment before speaking, "You mean, you don't know who my husband is?"
"Only by what his records say, and that's not much."
"So you don't know what his profession is?"
"Even the Nurse Williams knows." I looked at her for conformation and she said 'yes' while blushing slightly.
"What time is it?" I asked, looking at the clock, just gone six pm, I moved Rowan so that she was laying on the upper part of my left arm, grabbed a sick blanket from the baby bag, and then started the burp her.
"Can we put the news on, it's probably going to be breaking news?"
Dr Daniels nodded to Nurse Williams and she turned on the T.V and put the news on.
The news reporter was just introducing the accident.
"...Breaking news, there has been an accident on a forest lane this afternoon that involved two cars. The actor Kyle Blake along with his mystery wife and who we suspect to be their two young children, crashed earlier today after swerving to miss an oncoming car. The actor was taken away with the youngest of the children, just a baby, as his wife stayed behind to look for the older child, who had run off into the forest after the accident. Sarah Collins is outside the hospital now, where Kyle Blake is thought to have arrived, with the baby, two hours ago and where we suspect the wife and older child arrived not twenty minutes ago."
The scene changed, and we could now see a woman with short blonde hair stood outside of the hospital that we were currently in, along with a few other reporters from other stations.
"Thank you Patricia, I am-" The woman, Sarah Collins, started but I blocked it all out.
"Turn it off, please." I said, and Nurse Williams quickly turned off the T.V.
"Your husband-" Dr Daniels started, but I finished the sentence for him.
"Is a famous actor, yes, and the children and I are the secret children and wife that no one knew about until today, yes."
The Doctor looked shocked but was quick to apologise.
"Don't worry," I assured him, smiling, "You didn't know."
Dr Daniels started to speak, but was interrupted by the door opening, and the three of us looked over.
My eyes widened, and I gasped in shock when I saw who had just walked in, "Miles?"
The smiled dropped from my face when all he did was look back at me in shock.
"Rose?" He questioned, I nodded back at him before putting Rowan in the cot, and then hugging him, even though my arm and neck were still screaming in pain.
"Oh my gods Miles, it's been two years, where the heck have you been?" I got angrier as I spoke and pulled away from him.
"Why don't I sort your arm and neck out and then explain as I work?"
"OK." I sat down on a spare bed that I had just noticed was on the other side of the room, and Miles started to work on my neck first.
"After everything that happened two years ago with Katie, I just didn't know if you and Kyle still wanted anything to do with me anymore, so I distanced myself from everyone, including the girl I love and throw myself into my residency."
He finished my neck and then examined my left arm, "It's just a fracture, so I'll just wrap it in a brace." I nodded as he went through his bag and pulled the things needed to wrap my arm in, out of the bag.
"What colour do you want?" He asked me, once he had everything he needed out.
And then he went to work again. For the next five minutes the room was filled with complete silence, Rowan must have fallen asleep now, and as soon as he finished he put the spare things back into his bag and headed towards the door.
"Miles-" I started, which caused him to pause and look back at me, but he just shook his head at me.
"I'm sorry Rose, tell Kyle I am too."
He turned and opened the door, "Miles please?"
He looked back at me with sad eyes, before shaking his head at me and then left the room, the door making a soft 'click' sound as it closed behind him.
Not a second after the door closed Kyle's heart monitor started to speed up slightly, I quickly made my way over to his bed.
"Kyle baby, can you hear me? Can you open your eyes?"
He groaned in return, and I quickly pressed the call button, and told them that he was waking up, as I took his hand and squeezed it slightly.
The Doctor and Nurse must have left just after Miles had come into the room.
Kyle slowly started to open his eyes, groaning slightly as he blinked a few times and then looked around the room before settling his gaze on me and smiling.
"Hey," he said to me in a croaky voice, squeezing my hand back.
I leant forward and kissed him, and then pulled back and stroked his cheek,
"I was so worried."
"Well, there's no need to worry now, I'm OK." He smiled at me.
"Thank god, I've called for the doctor" I told him as I gave him the end of Anthony's water.
"Did you find him?" Kyle asked me worriedly, as I set the water back into the side.
"Yes, he's sleeping now, he's fine just a little dehydrated." I nodded to the chair that was behind me.
"Fine." I pointed to the cot on the other side of his bed.
"Just a fractured wrist and a cut on my neck."
"So I was the only one that was hurt the worst?"
"Yeah." I said sadly.
I looked at him shocked that he would say that it was a good thing.
"How can you say that?"
"It's better that I got hurt and not them."
"I guess you're right." I leaned forward and hugged him tightly, "I was just so scared when we couldn't find Anthony and when they took your unconscious body away." I let the tears that I had been holding in for the past few hours fall, as Kyle wrapped his arms around me and whispered reassuring words into my ear.
Dr Daniels and Nurse Williams walked back into the room then, so I pulled away from him.
"Mr Blake, it's good to see you awake, how do you feel?" Dr Daniels asked, as the Nurse looked over Kyle's vitals again.
"I have a slight headache and my left leg hurts."
"Well you did hit your head pretty hard and you have a minor concussion and your left leg was crushed in the accident and it should take a good eight weeks to heal."
"So, I won't be able to finish the film I'm working on?" weirdly Kyle didn't sound too disappointed about not being able to act for a while.
"Honey, I'm sure that they can put the film on hold until you are better."
"It's fine, we finished all of the scenes that I'm in earlier anyway, and if they need me they'll have to wait. Anyway, it means that I get to spend more time with you and the children now." He smiled at me once he had finished speaking.
"I guess you're right" I sighed.
"I'm always right." He chuckled.
"Shut up." I laughed quietly back.
"You love me really." He smiled widely at me.
"Really?" I gasped in fake shock.
"Well, we're going to keep you in overnight for observation and then you should be discharged by lunchtime tomorrow," The Doctor interrupted us, while Nurse Williams watched us with a smile on her face, "And Mrs Blake, we have been informed that you and the children are welcome to stay here for the night."
"Thank you." I said to him and then he and Nurse Williams left the room.
"So," Kyle started, then pulled me onto the bed next to him and wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed my forehead as I rested it against his shoulder, "How have the press reacted to this?" He finished softly.
"They arrived here a few minutes after me, and haven't left since."
"How about we watch it?" He smirked, we always watched what lies they came up with about him.
"OK." I turned the T.V on and saw that they were talking to someone who had just left the hospital, probably a nurse that had seen Kyle arrive with Rowan and then me with Anthony a few hours later.
"So, Liz can you tell me what happened when Kyle Blake arrived at the hospital a few hours ago?"
"Well Him and the baby that was with him were meant to be separated, but Kyle wouldn't let them take it away, so they were both taken to a private room, where they have been for the past three hours, and the mystery wife about one hour ago with an older boy, the two of them were taken to the same room as Kyle and none of them have left since." She smiled at the camera before turning and walking away.
"Well," The reporter started as she turned back to the camera, "The question still remains, who is Kyle Blake's mystery wife? And who are the two mystery children?" I turned the T.V off before she could continue and then turned back to Kyle.
"Well, I guess the whole truth is almost out." I sighed.
"I wish life was simpler," Kyle started, but I interrupted.
"And that everyone was less nosy."
We both laughed and when I glanced at the clock, I saw that it was almost nine o'clock, and I yawned.
"Let's sleep," Kyle said, "I'll feed Rowan in a bit, you just rest now." He kissed my head as he pushed a button that made the bed move back, so that we were in a more comfortable position for me to lay my head on his chest, over his heart, and to wrap my arm around his waist.
He then started to hum my favourite song A thousand Years by Christina Perri that had also been our first dance song, as husband and wife, at our wedding, and then I slowly drifted off to sleep with a smile on my face.
