Chapter Three: Family
I nervously ran my hands over my outfit, as I stood next to Kyle's
motorbike, looking up at the house in front of us. I was wearing my
favourite pair of black skinny jeans, a grey and white t-shirt with a
dark blue jumper and matching dark blue converse.
"You ready?" Kyle asked, taking my hand.
"No, what if they don't like me?"
"They will, Marie has been begging me to bring you home since I first told them back in march."
"That was one and a half months ago, we weren't even together then."
"I know" he smiled at me, as he locked the helmets into the seat.
Marie was Kyle's eight year old sister, and I couldn't wait to meet her either.
"Mitchell won't be home, so it'll just be my mum, dad and Marie," Kyle smiled down at me, before placing a kiss to the hand which he had just taken. "Ready now?"
"As I'll ever be," I smiled back at him, "Let's go."
"Hello?" Kyle called out as he closed the door behind us.
"In the kitchen." A female voice called back to us.
"Kyle!" An exited childlike voice shouted, before a flash of light brown and purple flew past me, and landed in Kyle's arms.
"Hey Marie," Kyle laughed as he set her down and took her hand as he introduced me, "I would like you to meet Rose."
"Hi Marie" I said, nervously.
"Are you Kyle's girlfriend?"
"Um yes, and you must be his little sister."
She nodded and smiled at me, before coming over a taking my hand and leading me away from Kyle, "Mum's in the kitchen, let's go and see her."
"Okay." I answered, looking back at Kyle, who just shrugged and smiled as he followed us.
"Mum," Marie spoke as we entered the kitchen. "This is my new friend, Rosie."
"Marie, you know that Kyle just got here, you can't have any fri-," that's when she turned around and saw the three of us stood in the doorway.
Mrs Blake must only be in her early forties, with slightly wavy blonde hair, matching chocolate brown eyes to Kyle and is quite pale, compared to Kyle's tanned skin anyway, he must get that from his father.
"Hi, I'm Rose." I said shyly.
"She's Kyle's girlfriend." Marie smiled up at her mum before looking back at us.
"I think that's pretty obvious, Marie." Kyle said, messing up her hair, and taking my hand when Marie let go to sort out her hair as she glared at her brother.
"I'm Clara," Mrs Blake said, "It's nice to meet you."
"You too." I smiled.
"Anyway, dinners almost ready, so Marie will you go and get your father, and Kyle could you set the table for me, please?"
"Yes mum." Marie skipped off the find her father as Kyle kissed his mother on the cheek.
"I'll help you." I said as he set some plates down and started taking out the cutlery.
"You don't have to."
"But I want to."
He looked like he wanted to argue, but his mum interrupted,
"Why don't you help me put everything into serving bowls Rose, let Kyle do the."
"Okay." I went over to help. As I walked past Kyle, he kissed me on my cheek and smiled at me, as I flushed bright red.
Ten minutes later, I had met Mr Blake, who looked the same age as Mrs Blake, with short light brown hair, green eyes and slightly tanned.
We were all sat around the dining table, about to start eating, when we were interrupted by the sound of the front door opening and closing, which was followed by footsteps heading towards us as a male voice called out,
"Hey, have you already started?" A second later a young man, maybe a bit older than Kyle, with blonde hair down to his bright green eyes, and was slightly tanned, just like Kyle and his father, came into the room and stopped short when he saw us.
"Who's this?" he said, heading over to me, and holding his hand out for me to shake.
"I'm Rose." I answered as I shook his hand.
"Rose, nice to meet you," he smiled at me, "I'm Mitchell."
"It's nice to meet you too."
"So Rose, are you free this weekend?"
"Oh um, I-" I wasn't sure if he was joking or not, so I looked at Kyle, as I blushed bright red, then looked down at my plate.
"She's my girlfriend, Mitch." Kyle said, reaching over and taking my hand from the top of the table, for which made me smile over at him, still bright red.
"I know, bro, I was only joking." Mitchell smiled at the two of us.
"Mitchell, just come and sit down, and stop winding your brother up." Mrs Blake said.
"Sorry mum." Mitchell looked at Mrs Blake, and the over at Kyle and I, with a smirk on his face, "So Rose," He started as he sat in
the last seat opposite me and next to Mrs Blake, "Do you have any hot friends?"
"Mitchell." Mr Blake said, sternly.
"What I'm joking," he laughed, as I blushed again. "Kind of."
The rest of dinner went by nicely, and before I knew it, we had all settled into the living room, apart from Mr Blake and Mitchell, who had both gone up to Mr Blake's office.
"So Rose, Tell me about your family?" Mrs Blake asked, once Marie had chosen a show to watch on Disney channel.
"Well, my brother Chris he's 23, and he lives with his girlfriend about twenty minutes away from the apartment that I share with Katie, who has been my best friend since nursery."
"And your parents?"
"Um..." I took a deep breath, "Well-"
"Mum I don-" Kyle started, but I interrupted him.
"It's fine Kyle," I said, "I'm fine,"
I looked back up at Mrs Blake before continuing, "Um, my parents both died when I was younger."
"Oh, I'm so sorry dear."
"It's okay, it's been years, and my brothers taken good care of me anyway" I smiled sadly at her.
Two hours later, it was starting to get dark and Marie needed to get ready for bed, so Kyle and I started to say our goodbyes to everyone.
"I'll see you soon, Marie." I said, as I gave her a hug goodnight.
"Okay, goodnight Rose."
"Goodnight." I smiled at her, before she hugged Kyle and then she headed off to brush her teeth.
"It was nice to meet you." Mrs Blake, or Clara as she insisted on being called, as she gave me a quick hug, "I hope to see you again soon."
"You too." I said, before saying a quick goodbye to Mitchell and Mr Blake, who had both come back down to see us off.
After Kyle had said a quick goodbye to his parents and brother, before taking my hand and leading me over to his bike.
Kyle quickly passed me my helmet before hopping onto the bike behind him, and wrapping my arms around his waist as he started the engine. We both gave one last wave to Kyle's family before we headed back to my apartment.
Kyle wrapped his arms around my waist, once we were both off his bike.
"So," he started, with a slight smirk on his face, "That went well."
"Yeah," I agreed, smiling, "And your brother is funny."
"Hey, don't go getting any ideas." He teased, pulling me closer to him.
"Never," I laughed, "Seriously, I had fun."
"Yes, your family is great, and Marie is a cutie too."
"That she is." He agreed with a smile.
"I should head in, Katie's probably waiting up for me."
"Okay, one last question before I get to kiss you goodbye?" Kyle held both of my hands in his.
"Yes?" I smiled up at him.
"Will I be meeting your brother on our next date?"
