Chapter Thirty-One: The Ghost

We arrived at the restaurant just before seven, and Kyle put a hat on before I carried Rowan in, and held Anthony's hand as we headed into the calm and quiet looking building.

Everyone was already there; well Miles' parents Sarah and John, and his sister Sophie, as well as Katie's parents Skylar and Jason.

I told the waitress that greeted us upon entering the restaurant, and spotting everyone, that our party was already here as I gestured to the table that they were sat at, she nodded in reply, all the while looking at Kyle suspiciously, as she stepped aside to let us pass.

"Hey everyone." Kyle and I both greeted everyone, as we reached the table near the back of the restaurant, away from the windows.

"Hi Rose, Kyle." They all greeted the four of us as we sat down, with our backs facing the windows so that it would be harder to identify Kyle if anyone looked in.

We hadn't been sat down for more than two minutes before Rowan started to fuss from her car seat on the floor next to me.

I bent down to pick her up, "I'm going to go into the bathroom to feed her."

"Okay, do you want me to order for you?" Kyle asked me, as we could see the waiter heading over to our table.

"Yes please, anything is fine, you know what I like." I kissed his and Anthony's foreheads, before picking up the baby bag and telling everyone that I would be back soon as I left the table and headed towards the ladies toilets.

I quickly fed Rowan and then walked around the room burping her.

I had just turned to head out of the toilet when I spotted a shadow out of the corner of my eyes. Clutching Rowan close to me, I turned slowly to face the shadow.

The shadow wasn't a shadow at all. It was a girl, around seventeen or eighteen, with long wavy dark brown hair and matching eyes, and she was watching us with an awed expression, until she noticed that I was looking at her anyway.

"You can see me?" She asked, shocked.

"Yes." I answered her, she took a step closer to me, and I understood why she was so shocked that I could she her. Her pale skin and the pale blue dress that she was wearing were all translucent. She was a ghost.

"I have a gift."

"So you can help me?"

"Yes, I can try, what do you need help with?"

"I need you to help me find her."

"My daughter, they took her away from me and I don't know what happened after that, they gave me something and when I woke up I was like this."

She looked so sad, I knew that I had to help her, but I had to know what Katie's announcement is first. "Okay, What's your name?"

"Ilis Winter."

"Can you tell me how long ago this happened?"

"Almost two years ago."

"Okay, I have to finish up something here, but I can help you after that Okay?"

"Okay, thank you."

I gave her my address and then watched as she vanished, before making my way back out to the table.

The food was just being placed on the table as I took my seat next to Kyle again.

Kyle had gotten me chicken pasta, which was really good, once we were all finished, we decided not to get any dessert, but I did get Anthony some ice-cream.

"Okay everyone," Miles started to speak once Anthony was given his ice-cream about ten minutes later, "I know you are all probably wondering why we called you all here tonight."

Katie spoke next, smiling brightly at all of us, before finishing their announcement, "We just wanted to tell you while you were all here together," She took a deep breath before giving us the big news, "We're having a baby, I'm pregnant."

There was a moment of silence before we all broke out into smiles and congratulated them. This would be good for them, they had been through enough in the past few years, and even though I was still upset with Miles, I knew that this baby would be a good thing for them.

"Wait guys, there's something else we need to tell you as well." Katie started when we had all stopped congratulating them, and asking them about how far along she was, to which she answered eleven weeks.

"We've decided that we want to try and move past everything that has happened over the past few years, and we want to look towards the future and not stay in the past, so..." Miles smiled and reached out and took Katie's hand, which was resting on the table, "We've decided to get re-married."

There was another round of congratulatory hugs and 'We're happy for You's,' before we all settled into happy conversations about what we had been up to since we had seen them last, and about the baby and wedding.

Katie and Miles were planning on getting married in about two weeks, at the city hall, it was going to be a small wedding with just family and close friends and then they were planning on taking a short honeymoon.

It was around eight thirty when we started that we should probably leave. Anthony had climbed into Kyle's lap, and was on the verge of falling asleep. We said goodbye to everyone, and gave both Miles and Katie a hug and congratulated them again, before we made our way outside and to the car.

Both of the children slept through the ride home, and I took the chance to tell Kyle about the ghost that I had met in the toilet.

However, Kyle's reaction was not one that I expected. Ever.

Kyle didn't speak to me for the rest of the drive home. It seemed like he was pretending that I didn't even exist, and I didn't even know why.

We quietly put the children to bed, still not saying a word to each other, before we both headed downstairs.

I headed into the kitchen, seeing Ilis stood in there, ignoring the fact that Kyle was probably following me.

"Okay, I can help you, I just need some more information."

My laptop was in a draw under the kitchen table, I quickly started it up, but didn't get very far as Kyle started to speak.

"Rose, we need to talk."

"So you're talking to me now?" I asked him, angrily.

"Rose j-..."

"What Kyle?" I turned and looked at him angrily.

"I don't think you should do this Rose."

"Well, you can't control what I do Kyle."

"I know, but maybe you should do this in the morning, it's getting late."

"He's right, and I don't mind," Ilis agreed with him. "I'll be back in the morning"

"Okay." I reluctantly agreed, before putting the laptop away and slowly followed Kyle up the stairs, and then we both fell into bed. Only managing to give each other a quick kiss before falling asleep.
