Chapter 5

There was something wrapped around him. Cole struggled to move but something was preventing him from doing so. He could barely make out where he was. Disorientation gripped him as soon as he opened his eyes. Shadows danced throughout the dark room and a roaring fire was in the fire place. Man, it was too fucking hot. His mind was struggling to understand why he was so hot and what was going on. No matter how much he struggled he could not free himself and it felt like he was baking.

Cole didn’t sense any danger, but this was some place he had never seen before. Something smelled sweet and so delicious to him. A loud growl came from his stomach. Cole looked around as much as he could to see where he was. Nothing looked familiar to him.

Looking up at the ceiling, Cole realized he was on the floor. Why was he wrapped in something on the floor? The shadow of the fire dancing flickered on the ceiling. Something pressed up against him and he realized there was someone lying next to him. What the fuck was going on?

Something strange was going on and he wasn’t sure if he had jumped out the pot and into the fire. The last thing he remembered was crawling from the ditch onto the road. That stupid little bastard betrayed him. That cock sucking asshole stabbed him in his back and his leg and threw him out of a moving vehicle. This was some bullshit. His mind was racing trying to remember anything that happened since he was left out in the middle of nowhere to die.

Did Bruce and his goons come back and get him or was something crazy going on? Whose house was this? His eyes began to focus in the dark and he realized that he was in someone’s home. It looked really feminine and it smelled like his Aunt May’s house. His mind raced as he tried to figure out where he was and who could have possibly brought him here. The more he thought about it, the more he started to freak out. No woman could pick him up. Oh shit! He must be in some fucking faggot’s house. He struggled to look around and to find a way to get out of this shit.

The person lying next to him was in his blind-sight. He couldn’t turn over and look to see who was next to him. There was something propped behind him which made it impossible for him to turn to his right side. He was starting to freak the fuck out just thinking about some fruit loop getting cozy with him. That shit wasn’t a part of his life when he was locked up and he damn sure wasn’t about to start now. Fuck, he had only been out of the joint for two weeks and someone already tried to kill him. He was only able to knock the bottom out of one stupid skank a few times and now he might end up being dog food or a bitch to some fucking fag.

Cole could feel himself getting really angry. He knew he would figure out a way to get out of this mess and he would skin this sick fuck alive if anything was out of place on his body. As if the person could sense his thoughts, a woman sat up next to him.

She looked at him through sleepy eyes. This was the person who had been lying next to him.

No motherfucking way in the world was it possible that a fat black bitch was lying in the same bed with him. Even though they were on the floor, there was no way that she should be lying next to him.

As she leaned forward to examine him, he realized the sweet scent swirling around his head was coming from her.

The eyes staring at him belonged to a fucking nigger. He was in some nigger bitch’s house. How in the holy hell was this even possible? Why was this black bitch lying next to him?

So many thoughts raced through his mind as he came to see what was going on. He wondered if there was anyone else here. He knew he could take her if she was by herself and that was exactly what he was going to do. She would regret bringing him here. A sense of disgust and terror settled in him and he began to struggle to free his arms, but he couldn’t.

“Oh, you’re finally awake. Thank God,” said the soft sleepy voice with a sigh of relief. Angel scratched her head and stretched. She was still tired and worn out from taking care of him. She sat down earlier to monitor his breathing and passed out.

He didn’t say a word. He just stared at her as if he saw a ghost. She yawned and sat up straight.

“I know you’re shocked. Please don’t try to move so much. I don’t want you to hurt yourself and start bleeding again. It was by the grace of God that I didn’t lose you,” explained the sleepy voice filled with concern.

Cole looked at here in disbelief. She was talking to him as if they already knew one another. She seemed to be glad that he didn’t die. How could she say that? He fuckin hated niggers with a passion. His first thought was to knock this bitch out and get out of here. Before he could do anything, he needed to know where here was and figure out how to get away.

Angel saw the look of hatred in his eyes. Before she allowed fear to take over the situation, she decided to explain to him what was going on.

“I know you don’t want to be here with me. I realized that when I saw all of the tattoos on your body,” she said carefully.

For the past week and a half, she had been preparing her mind for the day when he would finally wake up and be able to respond to her. There was no scenario that she had not played in her mind. Looking at the shock on his face, she already expected him to respond this way.

“Before you say or do anything. Please listen to me. I realize you don’t like people like me. I know this is a shock to you, but I found you nearly two weeks ago in the middle of the road. It looked like you crawled there from the ditch and passed out,” she gave him a moment to process what she had just told him.

“Only by the grace of God was I able to help you. When I saw you, I was terrified because I wasn’t sure if it was some type of setup and I started to drive off. My conscious would not allow me to leave you out there. It was snowing really hard and the road was completely covered. It would’ve been dark within 35 to 45 minutes of the time I found you. Even though I was almost paralyzed with fear, I couldn’t leave you out there to die,” she explained calmly and continued to help him understand what happened as he looked up at the ceiling.

“I struggled for hours to take care of you. I got you to my SUV and pulled you inside. I pulled you from my vehicle into my house. I got your coat off and saw that you were lying in a pool of blood. I was afraid that you would die if I didn’t hurry and find where the blood was coming from, so I cut your clothes off to help you faster. After bathing you and covering your wounds, I dressed you and wrapped you in blankets to keep you warm. I have spent the last 10 days caring for, cleaning, and feeding you.” The solemn look on her face told him that she was reliving those moments. He saw tears in her eyes.

“I was never more afraid in my life. I thought you would die in my hands. I had to save you. I cried to God to help me save you,” Now, the tears were pouring as if she had held them this whole time. It was as if this was the first time she had a chance to think about what happened. She sat on the floor next to him and shed all of the pain she experienced while attempting to save his life. She was emotionally and mentally wrecked

The hard expression that was on his face at first began to soften as he realized what she went through and what she had done for HIM. Angel looked straight at him through tear stained eyes and she could see that he was trying to wrap his mind around what happened and where he was. She got up and sat on the love seat. He was lying on the floor in silence. Just the thought of everything that happened forced him into several moments of shocked silence. Angel sat back in silence and waited for him to say something, anything. Cole tried to sit up and he looked at her when he was unable to move. She slowly she approached him.

“I didn’t want to bind you like this, but after seeing all of your tattoos, I was worried,” she said as she slowly unwrapped the blankets that tightly bond him. As she unzipped the sleeping bag, she prayed a silent prayer.

When he looked at her face, he saw uncertainty and fear. She knew what he was. He was unconscious for nearly two weeks, and she took care of him like an innocent little baby even though she knew he hated black people. Cole was struggling to understand why she helped him. No matter what anyone said, he owned her his life.

His so-called best friend tried to kill him. A complete stranger saved his life. Even though he knew she had seen his tattoos, she still saved his life. Cole looked at her. He reached over to her and lifted her face to stare him in the eyes. Her hazelnut brown eyes, her mocha brow skin, and her brown everything meant nothing to him and people like him. If he were walking around on the streets, his hate would be undeniable. Never had he said a nice thing to even one black person.

Kneeling next to him on her knees, she seemed very small. Even though he lost some weight after his ordeal, he was still taller and stronger than she was. He could sense her fear. Her body was even shaking under his touch. For the first time in his life, he felt ashamed to make someone feel that afraid of him.

This black bit...woman was his savior. He would forever be in her debt.

“I promise I won’t hurt you. I swear it on my life.” his deep rugged voice assured her as he looked into her eyes.
