Let The Games Begin
“Aye Davis, where have you been man? Can’t have a party without our leading scorer here!” A familiar guy exclaimed as soon as Easton and I stepped through the console of the door. Loud music was blaring through the house as the crowded home shook with everyone’s presence.
From the corner of my eye I could see various people with red solo cups in their hands as they swung their bodies in the air to the beat of the music.
“Hey Man.” Easton said as he gave the guy a quick handshake before stepping back to me. The guy whose name I couldn’t remember for the life of me glanced down and gave me a flirtatious smile before holding a hand out.
“I don’t think we’ve met, I’m Mark.” He introduced as my fingers came in contact with his hands. I could feel Easton watching us as I returned his smile before mumbling a quiet ‘Mallory’.
“Well, it was good to see the two of you, but I’m on DJ duty so I better get going.” Mark said as he shoved his phone into the pocket of his jeans before holding his hand up in the air to wave at us before turning and making his way into the crowd of people.
“Ready to go in?” Easton asked as he placed his hand on my lower back to guide me through the party. I could feel heat course through my body at the contact and I sincerely wanted to punch myself in the face for having such a reaction to Easton’s touch.
Right as we were about to enter the living room where a makeshift dance floor was set up, a body came in my line of vision. Jackson, a well known football player from our school, held two solo cups in his hand as he wore a mischievous smirk on his face.
“Not so fast lovebirds, everyone has to take a drink before entering the party.” He announced as he pushed the solo cups into our hands. Jackson was the epitome of a jock that you’d see in the movies. Strong build, perfectly sleek blonde hair, and sparkling blue eyes. The only difference was that he wasn’t a complete asshole. Quite the opposite actually. He was incredibly sweet and I had grown up with him all my life.
Though we didn’t hang out much, he always made it clear to me that he had my back if I ever needed him.
Looking past his tough exterior, he was actually a complete softie.
“Sorry man, designated driver here.” Easton said as he raised his hands in surrender. Shrugging, Jackson gulped down what was supposed to be Easton’s drink before turning to look at me with expecting eyes.
Swirling the cup of beer in my hand, I watched as a distracted Jackson turned around to scream something at another guy standing in the doorway of the kitchen.
Did I want to drink the beer?
Sure, I had drank before, but I didn’t know what tonight would bring and that made me nervous.
And I was kind of a light weight.
But that wasn’t the point.
“We can dump it in the plants when he’s not looking if you don’t want to drink it.” Easton lowly said into my ear as he raised his brows at me. I felt a small smile enclose my face at his suggestion but shook my head at it.
I wanted to be spontaneous tonight.
“What the hell.” I shrugged before bringing the glass to my lips and gulping down the contents inside. I could hear hoots and cheers from around me as Jackson gave me a high five before bidding his goodbyes to Easton and I before he too got lost in the crowd like Mark did.
“Didn’t know you had it in you, Evans.” Easton said as he crossed his arms across his chest and leaned against the wall behind us.
My eyes immediately zeroed in on his frame that currently resembled what a model would look like in a GQ magazine.
Cut it out Mallory! The last thing you need is another guy messing with your thought process.
The situation with Cole was bad enough.
Shrugging my shoulders, I responded to Easton’s earlier comment, “I want to have fun tonight.”
A grin lit up on Easton’s face as he pushed off the wall and walked over towards me, “Shall we then, my lady?” He said as he held an arm out to me. A small laugh bubbled out of me as I shook my head before wrapping my arm around his as he and I made our way through the crowd.
I was practically glued to Easton’s side as people continuously bumped into us as Easton pulled us towards the entrance of the kitchen.
Upon walking in, various people yelled out Easton’s name as he nodded his head towards them in greeting. I felt my face redden as nearly every head turned to face the two of us. I quickly attempted to pull myself away from Easton, knowing that word would soon spread about how Easton and I were practically hugging as we stood in the doorway of the kitchen. I quickly realized that my futile attempts were useless seeing as Easton wrapped an arm around my waist tightly and continued to hug me into his body. I opened my mouth to threaten him but was cut off by another voice yelling across the kitchen.
“Hey Easton! Over here!” Noah Shaw yelled as he waved his hand in the air. He was standing in a large group of people, many of which I didn’t know or recognize. They were most likely students from a nearby school and I most definitely did not want to go over there with Easton. I would just end up awkwardly standing there as he socialized with everyone in the group.
I was half expecting Easton to leave me there while he went to say hi to them, but Easton being Easton dragged me along with him, “Hey man.” Easton greeted as he quickly hugged Noah before nodding his head at the whole group as a greeting.
“Glad you could make it man, who’s this?” Noah asked as he took a sip out of his cup while flashing me a sweet smile. In the two years that Noah had been at our school, we had never spoken a word to one another. He had been in a couple of my classes throughout the years and was notorious for his prankster personality. I cannot tell you how many times he was sent to the office by Mrs. Clemmings, our sophomore English teacher, whose face would always go red whenever Noah pulled one of his infamous pranks on her.
Poor lady, he damn near sent her to the grave at the age of fifty.
“Everyone, meet Mallory. She’s my personal stalker and I decided to let her-” Easton’s introduction was cut off by me leaning forward and pinching the side of his stomach while waving sweetly to the others in the group. They all had smiles on their face and a couple of them even let out a chuckle as they watched Easton yelp loudly in pain.
Noah let out a loud laugh at his friends suffering before saying to Easton “I like her already.”
Holding a hand out for me to shake, Noah grinned down at me, “Nice to meet you Mallory.”
“Likewise.” I responded as I took his hand in mine and gave it a quick shake before dropping it and turning over to look at Easton with a devious smirk on my face. He was glaring at me and it only peaked my satisfaction as he rubbed a hand over his side.
“This is abuse, you know.” Easton leaned down to say as the others resumed their conversation. Turning to face him, I raised my eyebrows while crossing my arms across my chest.
“You deserved it.” I shrugged nonchalantly as I pretended to examine my nails. I could feel Easton’s gaze burning holes on the side of my face, but I simply ignored it as a familiar voice boomed into the kitchen.
“Truth or dare in the basement! Easton and Mallory, I better see you two there!” Sebastian yelled as a grinning Michelle stood beside him. I glanced over at Easton nervously who in return flashed me a devilish smirk before taking my hand in his and pulling me towards the direction where the others were headed.
If there was one thing I knew, nothing good ever came out of playing truth or dare.
Feelings get hurt, secrets are exposed, and the inner risk taker comes out of everyone.
“Come on sweetheart, it’s time to let loose.” Easton said grinning down at me. Suddenly, my hands felt clammy and my heart beat escalated as my mind simmered with the possibilities that tonight would bring.
For the first time in a long time, I was ready to let loose and have fun and as much as I didn’t want to admit it, I wouldn’t want to experience it with anyone other than Easton.
