Chapter XV

Kason

I noticed that Amara was having trouble getting comfortable lately so I suggested she go to the gym with me. We did a few of the exercises I saw from one of the pregnancy books I read until she decided to quit. Every so often she’d stop and hold her stomach but I thought nothing of it and continued on with my workout.

I was cooling off between sets when I noticed that she was staring at me.

“Stop staring.”

“I’m not staring.” She said lying.

“I know you’re lying, you sure you can handle me training you.”

“Yes, I can withhold my urges, unlike you.”

“Can’t help it that I find my wife to be sexy as hell.” It was the truth I was a lucky man to have married such a beautiful, smart, and independent woman like Amara. I wanted to spend the rest of my life letting her know how lucky I felt.

“Are you done yet?”

“One last set then we can go.”

“You know what would be funny.” She said looking at me as I wiped my face with a towel. I noticed that she was holding her stomach as if she was in pain.

“What babe?”

“If I went into labor right now.”

“It would.”

“Then you’re about to laugh your ass off.”

“Why?” I asked putting my shirt back on and walking towards her.

“I’m in labor.”

“Why didn’t you say anything?”

“I thought they were back pains then they started to get intense.”

“Remember deep breaths.” She nodded and I kneeled in front of her holding her hand as she concentrated on breathing.

“Kason I refuse to give birth in this gym.” She said looking me in the eye with a look that could kill.

“Right, shit I left your hospital bag at the house.” I wasn’t expecting her to go into labor today, so I decided to leave it at home. She glared at me as I helped her up off of the ball she was sitting on.

“Does it look like I give a damn right now.” We made it outside when she stopped and squeezed the hell out of my hand.

“Ow, did your water just break?” I asked looking down at the small puddle that was on the ground

“No, I stepped in a puddle. Yes my water just broke, get me to a fucking hospital now!” In all honesty I was panicking on the inside and did not want her to have to deliver these babies in the car. So I did what every normal man would do and listen to his wife. I may have gone a few miles over the speed limit but we made it to the hospital safe and without a speeding ticket.

Once we got to the hospital the nurse kept trying to flirt with me. I could tell Amara was getting pissed because she completely ignored her, the woman that was in labor. I was glad her friend came when she did. Because Amara looked two seconds from smacking the shit out of the nurse if she touched or flirted with me again instead of finding her a doctor.

If I could take away the pain from Amara and give birth myself, I would. And not because my pain tolerance is much higher than hers. She’d been through so much between getting pregnant. Morning sickness, stretch marks, back pain, and so much other stuff. I hated seeing her in pain and not being able to do anything about it. I may play a tough sport but to me my wife is the toughest person in the world. After getting checked in we were sitting in her room talking when she finally got her epidural and wasn’t in pain anymore.

“I love you sooooo much.” The epidural she asked for started to kick in and she was in a happy mood.

“They gave you the strong stuff.”

“I love your smile, ass, tattoos, oh and your penis. That thing is great.”

“The really strong stuff.” I laughed at my wife’s new found giddiness.

“Oh look I’m having a contraction. But guess what! I can’t feel shit below my waist.”

“That’s good to know babe.”

“You’re so sexy.”

“Thank you.”

“I mean really really really really sexy. For a white dude your stroke game is amazing. I’m so lucky.”

“I appreciate the compliment babe.”

“Thank you for dealing with my crazy hormones and cravings. You’ve been the perfect husband and I couldn’t have asked for you to change anything.”

“Thank you for carrying my children for eight months and for being in labor for seven hours.”

“Get me a nice push present and I’ll think about the other kids we’re supposed to have.”

“I get my basketball starting line up?”

“We breed boxers in this family honey.”

“Damn right we do.” She laughed and leaned her head on my shoulder.

“Are you nervous?”

“Yes, but we got this.”

“We do, we should call our parents and let them know what’s going on.”

“As much as I love our mothers, you sure you want them here now.”

“I can wait, but at least call them and let them know that I’m in labor. They’re probably wondering where we are.” After we called our parents we both took a short nap before it was time for Amara to start pushing out the first baby.

“Babe you’re doing great.” I said encouraging her. The epidural had started to wear off as she started pushing and I could tell she was in a lot of pain.

“Shut up this hurts.”

“Push Amara.”

“Fucking shit ow.”

“You got this babe, he’s almost here.” I said kissing her forehead in encouragement.

“I can see the head, I need one big push.” Dr. Golden said with a smile

“I’m pushing dammit.” After cussing me out one last time Knox made his entrance into the world. I was glad we decided to have Valarie record the births because I always want to see the smile on Amara’s face when the doctor put Knox on her chest. I couldn’t stop smiling myself while I cut the cord and held him for the first time. I gave him to the nurse so that she could get his height and weight.

“Baby B isn’t ready to come out yet so we will wait and see if he does on his own. If he doesn’t soon we’ll have to do an emergency c section.” We both nodded in understanding and left alone to enjoy our newborn son.

“He’s so tiny and cute. Why didn’t you tell your brother it’s time to go?” Amara said as I handed Knox to her.

“He’s not ready to leave yet.”

“Well I am, no offense baby boy but it hurt getting you out.” All Knox did was look at Amara weird then look at me.

“I know, mom’s crazy.” She glared at me and a nurse came in to check on us.

“We have to take the little one down to the nursery for some more tests, if that’s okay with you two. Dad can walk him down since it’s right down the hall.”

“You should take him to see our parents while your on your way, it looks like Kellan is not coming out anytime soon.” I nodded and kissed her forehead after I took him from her and walked into the small waiting room our parents were sitting in.

“Ma I’d like you to meet your grandson.”

“Oh look at him, he’s so handsome.”

“What’d you name him?”

“Knox Chandler Miller.”

“Such a good name, how’s Amara doing?”

“Waiting to see if his little brother is going to come out on his own or not.” We started walking down the hall behind the nurse.

“How’s it looking?”

“Might have to do a c section if he doesn’t soon.”

“She’s a strong girl, he’s stubborn like you it seems.”

“I’m not stubborn.”

“I’m your mother and I know these things Kason. I know you think you’re going to be a bad father, but I want you to know that you won’t. You’ve loved those boys the minute you found out Amara was pregnant. And I know you will try your hardest to be the father you wish you had.”

“I hate when you’re right about things.”

“It’s a gift.”

“Where’d Amara’s parents go?”

“They went back to the house to get some sleep, we’ve been taking shifts all night. You go back to your wife and see what’s going on with my grandson. I’ll stay with this little guy.”

I walked back to the room and Amara had a frustrated look on her face.

“Talk to me.” I sat on in the chair next to her and held her hand.

“I wanted them both to come out naturally but it looks like they’re going to prep me for surgery.”

“Sometimes things don’t work out the way we want them to and we have to go with the flow. And right now your son hasn’t caught on to it yet.”

“Nope he’s yours because he’s stubborn like you.”

“Both you and my mother said that.”

“It’s okay, we both love you any-ow.” She stopped mid-sentence and held onto her stomach

“What’s wrong?”

I think he changed his mind.” She pushed the button for the nurse and she came with Dr. Golden

“Someone decided to join the party, Amara I need you to push when I tell you to.” She nodded her head and reached for my hand to hold again.

“Almost done babe.”

“Don’t make me cuss you out again.”

“Alright push.”

“God this hurts.”

“Push.”

“You are never touching me again.”

“I see his head, give me two big pushes.” She gave one last scream before Kellan was out and on her chest.

“He’s here babe.” I wiped the sweat off of her forehead and gave her a kiss. After I cut the cord she handed him to me.

“He’s so adorable.”

“You did amazing, I love you.”

“I love you to.”

A few days later Amara and the babies home. While the twins and Amara were sleeping I took sometime to update everyone about the twins arrival.
