Chapter V

Amara

“What happened?” I asked sitting up from Kason’s lap.

“You passed out when you saw Marco. I know the guy is ugly but don’t scare me like that.”

“I don’t know what happened. I saw him and I was in shock. Why was he here? I have a restraining order against him so he shouldn’t need to see me.”

“Our rematch is coming up so he’s trying to figure out what he can do to get in my head. My guess he thought that if someone photographed you two together it would mess with my game plan.”

“That has been the furthest thing from my mind. How am I going to go to your fight, I never miss one of your fights.”

“I can set you up in my apartment near arena so you won’t be near him. Is should be far enough that you won’t be in violation of the restraining order.”

“I don’t want you to go through all that trouble. I’ll stay at home and watch the fight on pay per view with my girls.”

“I don’t want you to pay for a fight that you can watch for free. I was going to suggest staying at my apartment if you were pregnant around that time. But now I want you there for my sanity because I will worry about you.”

“We still have time to make plans. What happened after I passed out? Did you two fight?” I said changing the subject.

“As much as I wanted to kick his ass, no we didn’t. I told him to leave after I brought you to the couch. I also figured out another reason why you may have passed out.”

“What is it?” I said hoping he hadn’t noticed.

“You haven’t been taking your medicine again, what if you went into a coma. You promised you would do better by taking your medicine and checking your blood sugar.”

“I don’t need to take it. My blood sugar has been normal.”

“Did your doctor tell you that?”

“She said that I was doing fine and could stop taking the pills soon.”

“She didn’t say that it was for you to decide. Amara this is serious and can be very dangerous while pregnant.”

“I know, I hate having to take those pills and pricking my finger everyday, I’ll take them but not because you told me to.”

“I know it sucks but this is something you’ve been dealing with for years. I’ll be checking after you to make sure you keep your promise.”

“I will, I took a test today.”

“What did it say?”

“Negative.”

“We should take a break on trying to get pregnant right away.”

“Are you changing your mind?”

“No, not at all. I’m saying we’ve only been focusing on getting pregnant and it hasn’t happened yet. I read that if we don’t focus on getting pregnant as much we’ll have a better chance of getting pregnant. And I can see how much this is affecting you, no matter how hard you’ve been trying to hide it.

“So what do we do now?”

“What do you mean?”

“Are we going to try and be in a relationship? Are we taking a break from having sex?”

“I want for us to try and be in a relationship. If that means we have to stop having sex to get to know each other, then I’m okay with it. If we are going to be together I want you to be comfortable. The ball is in your court and you can do whatever you want with it. I’m following your lead.”

“I would want nothing more than for us to try and be an actual couple. With sex because the sex is amazing. But I need for you to be patient with me, the damage is still there from Marco.”

“I’m willing to help fix it with you babe. You patch me up after fights so why not let me return the favor.” I smiled knowing that he’d take good care of my heart.

A few months later....

“I’ll be right back.” I said to Kason’s manager Sam feeling the urge to throw up again. We were in Vegas to promote Kason’s next fight against Marco. Since Kason and I became a couple we’ve been enjoying our time together. Our first date was a simple dinner at home that we cooked together. We spent the night eating and talking and enjoying each others company. I also took a break from the fertility treatments. After six months of trying I hadn’t gotten pregnant. I decided to follow Kason’s advice and not focus so much on getting pregnant. And instead focus on the changes that were happening in our new relationship as a couple.

“You sure you’re okay, I can get someone to look at you.” He asked frowning.

“I’m fine Sam, I’ve been feeling like this since I ate earlier. It’ll pass soon.”

“You’ve been like this since you and Kason landed yesterday. I’ve never seen you this sick before.”

“Are you throwing up again?” a concerned Kason asked looking me in the eye when he walked in the room dressed in the suit I had picked for him to wear.

“You do realize I am a doctor.”

“Doctors make the worst patients.” Sam said getting something to eat from the food table, I glared at him as he walked out the room to give us privacy.

“Do you need for me to get a doctor to check you out? I know your stomach has been bothering you for the past couple of days. You don’t get sick often and I hate seeing you like this.”

“You don’t need to do that Kace, I’m feeling much better now.” In all honesty I was feeling a lot better, the nausea had passed and I felt fine like I usually did. The nausea would come and I would either vomit or need to lie down and feel better.

“If you even feel a little sick I’m taking you to the nearest hospital. You shouldn’t be throwing up as much as you have these past few days then feeling fine.”

“I will, thanks for caring so much babe.” I kissed his cheek but he turned his head causing me to kiss his lips instead. His PR manager Alicia walked in interrupting us from going any further. I met Alicia a handful of times and she always seemed to have an attitude with me. Kason told me that it was in her personality and not take it personal. I tried to take his advice but something about her rubbed me the wrong way.

“Alright you two I don’t need to deal with a sex tape scandal. Kason you have this press conference in twenty minutes. Then a photoshoot for the WBA right after. There’ll be food at both so don’t worry about getting lunch. If they ask about your relationship with Amara tell the truth but don’t give to much detail.”

“Why do they need to ask about our relationship? They haven’t before.”

“That was before you decided to become more than friends with the ex of your opponent. It does not help that you two were friends while they dated. It also makes you look like you’re using Amara to get in Marco’s head. They feed off of shit like this so remember to be truthful while giving them limited details about.”

“I don’t give a shit about what people think about my relationship with Amara. They don’t know the truth and shouldn’t judge me or her for being together.”

“I’m only trying to do my job Kason.”

“Then do that.”

We soon left his apartment and headed to where the press conference was being held. I sat in the back next to Sam while watching as Kason he answered questions about the upcoming fight. Alicia was screening questions so she couldn't sit with us and I was glad she wasn't. Because of the history of fighters getting physical during press conferences. Kason’s press conference started separate from Marco’s allowing me to attend. We still hadn’t decided what we were going to do for fight night. But I knew I wanted to be near by in case something happened.

"Kason, how do you prepare for a fight with one of the best guys in your weight class, Marco Cruz?”

“The same way I train for every other fight I’ve had. I’ve had him as an opponent before so I know how to prepare myself. ”

“Your timing has seemed a bit off these last few fights, is there a reason for that?”

“I’m working on a new method to help conserve energy and build momentum throughout a match.”

“Marco Cruz said that he should’ve won in you guys first meeting. Do you feel that you had an advantage over him?”

“No. There were times when either one of us could’ve won but in the end I got the belt.”

“One more question then we have to get ready for Marco Garcia’s press conference.” Alicia said to the group of reporters

“ Are you dating Marco the Great Garcia’s ex-girlfriend to get in his head?”

“No, I’ve known Amara before she dated Garcia and after their break-up I was there for her. It wasn’t until much later we started dating.”

“But why did you decide now was the time to announce your relationship?”

“There is never a perfect time to announce something like this. What Amara and I have is real and has nothing to do with Marco or this fight. Now if you guys don’t have any other questions I’d like to take my fiancé out to dinner.”

He got up and took my hand so that we could leave.

“Fiancé?” I asked him as we went up to his apartment floor on the elevator.

“I’m going to ask sooner or later. Might as well let them know now” He said opening the door to his apartment.

“But we’ve got so much-” I was about to say something when the urge to vomit again. Unlike earlier I actually needed to vomit. I made it to the bathroom Kace held my hair and rubbed my back while I emptied everything that was in my stomach.

“You’re going to see a doctor.”

“Okay, can I lay down for a second my head hurts.” He helped me up but a sudden wave of dizziness came over me.

“We’re going to the hospital now.”

While on our way to the hospital he called Sam and told him about the change of plans. Lucky for us I was able to see a doctor shortly after checking in.

“So what seems to be the problem.” The doctor said looking at me but Kason answered her before I could say a word.

“She’s been having severe nausea and vomiting, which has caused her to lose some weight. She’s also been having headaches and has been more tired than usual and she fainted earlier. ”

“I can speak for myself Kason.”

“You’re boyfriend seems very worried about you. I’m going to take some blood for some tests but start an IV of fluids to help until I can see what’s going on.”

I nodded and waited for the nurse to start my IV. Shortly after the doctor was back with my results.

“I’ve got your results and you are running a fever but we have to be careful because you’re pregnant. And suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum. The fluids I started you on should help get some nutrients in you. I’m also going to give you something that should help with the nausea then check back in a few hours to see how you’re doing. But I’d like to do an ultrasound to make sure everything is fine with the baby.” She started the ultrasound and we were able to hear the baby’s heartbeat.

“Holy shit.” We’re the first words out of Kason’s mouth after the doctor left.

“Kason.”

“What, I knew you were sick but I wasn’t expecting you to be sick because you were pregnant. We made that.”

“Are you upset?” We knew we wanted to let it happen on its own but it felt too soon.

“No, hell no. I’m excited this is what we both wanted remember. We’re going to be parents babe!” He said smiling.

“We are, thank you.” I said smiling back at him.

“No, thank you. I promise to be the best father I can be to our child and never let anything or anyone hurt either one of you.”

Kason never talked much about his father with me but his mother told me that he left when Kason was young. The baby and being a good father were important to him. And I could tell that he was going to try his best to be there for both me and our child.

I started feeling well enough to get discharged the next morning. And prescribed some medicine and instructions to take it easy for the next few days. Once we were back in his apartment Kason made sure that I was okay before leaving to do his photo shoot. Sam went with him so I was alone most of the day until my girls came so that we could watch the fight together. As much as I wanted to be there to support Kason. I knew that it was best for me and the baby to stay at his apartment and watch from there. I hoped that everything would go fine without any drama from Marco and Kason would get the win. But I had a feeling Marco won’t go down without a fight.
