Chapter VII

“You’ve been very relaxed today. What’s been going on between you and Kason, since the fight and the whole Marco thing?” my friend Tiffany asked before taking a sip of her wine. I was out having brunch catching up with some of my friends like we always did each month. It was a great way for us to take a break from our hectic lives and stay in touch.

“Marco finally got what he deserved and won’t be a problem for us anymore, so we haven’t had much drama to worry about. We’re happy about the baby and have been enjoying life.”

“How are things with you and Kason?”

“Amazing, he’s so sweet and excited about the baby so I can’t complain. But I have this feeling that this great phase is going to end. Then something or someone is going to try and test our relationship. After finally getting over what happened with Marco.”

“Nothing is going to happen between you and Kason. That man worships the ground you walk on and would do anything to make sure you’re always happy.” Tiffany said giving me a reassuring smile.

“The man got your ex arrested and suspended because of what he did to you.” My other friend Cyrene said agreeing with Tiffany

“He also agreed to father your baby when you asked him too. Without any complaints and moved in with you without you asking him to. Because he wanted to be there for you during your fertility treatments. Which he did not get upset about after you finally told him what happened with Marco.” Valarie said speaking up

“He also goes out of his way to get whatever you’re craving and deals with your mood swings like a champ.” My cousin Alyssa that had been staying with us for a few days said.

“I’m glad I’m not the only one. We all see how much Kason cares for you. And know that he wouldn’t let anything jeopardize your relationship.”

“You guys are right, I’m being paranoid for no reason.”

“You are but we still love you. Are you guys going to find out the sex of the baby or wait?”

“I’m not sure if I want to know but not knowing would be fun.”

“Your uterus, your decision.”

“That’s what Kace told me but I know he wants to know but only because it’d drive him crazy not knowing what we’re having.”

“You have your answer.”

“He said he loved me.”

“And you guys have being telling each other that for years now.”

“It was different this time, it had more meaning to it than a friendly I love you.”

“What’s wrong with that, don’t you love him back?” Valarie asked

“I do but he caught me off guard and when I ask him about it he changes the subject.”

“Okay how exactly did he say it?”

“Well he told Marco that he shouldn’t have messed with the woman he loves. Then he told me that he’d always do anything to protect me and make me happy. Everything he said was serious and had deep feelings behind it.

“He could have said it in the heat of the moment.”

“Kace is not the heat of the moment type of guy.”

“You guys need to talk about this. How have your symptoms been? Have you felt the flutters yet?

“I stopped vomiting a few days ago. But I still have the urge to pee every thirty minutes and no I haven’t but I can’t wait to feel him or her in there. I have an appointment today so I’m nervous that things have changed since my last appointment.”

“Sounds like fun and don’t stress. Worrying will only take away the joys of pregnancy and you don’t want to do that.”

“Yeah, I’m hoping for a boy but Kace wants it to be a girl.”

“At least she won’t get her heartbroken.”

“She won’t get that many dates because all the boys are going to know that her dad would beat their ass if they make her cry.”

“Very true.” We finished lunch and I headed to my appointment. I was a little early so I called Kason to see if he was on his way. When he didn’t answer I texted him before going inside to check in. I waited for Kason to show up for thirty minutes but he never did. When I got called to the back I was a little pissed off that he wasn’t here but put on my best smile. The nurse checked my blood pressure, weight, and height. Then asked questions about how I was doing and if I had any discomforts.

While I waited for the doctor I called and texted Kason again to see where he was. I still got no answer or response, by the time my doctor came in I decided to not let his absence bother me. Remembering that stress was bad for the baby.

“Are you ready to see the baby?”

“I am.”

“Is the father going to be joining us?”

“He got held up at work so it’s only me today.”

“Alright well let’s get this show on the road.”

She moved the wand around my stomach after putting some gel on my stomach

“Everything is looking good, oh wow. I was not expecting this.”

“Is something wrong?”

“Nothings wrong, everything is great actually. It’s seems that you’re actually having twins.” She said pointing at the two babies on the screen. I looked at her in shock not believing I was carrying twins.

“Why didn’t the doctor see that when I first found out I was pregnant?”

“Baby A can sometimes block Baby B. Their heartbeats were more than likely synchronized during your first ultrasound.”

“Yes it’s rare but I’ve seen a lot in my years and it looks like they’re both boys.”

“Oh my god!”

“Do you want pictures to show dad?”

“I would love some.” After I made my next appointment and got something for dinner I planned to go home and take a nap. Sleep had become my best friend along with the bathroom. As soon as I walked in I saw Kason sitting on the staircase waiting for me.

“I’m so sorry.”

“I don’t care.”

“Yes you do, I missed seeing our baby flash us for the first time.”

“What do you mean babies?”

“We are having twins.”

“How the hell did one turn into two?”

“One was hiding behind the other and their heartbeats were synchronized during the first ultrasound.”

“So are we gonna have double pink, blue, or one of each?”

“Look for yourself.” I handed him the pictures from my ultrasound out of my purse and went into the kitchen to put the food I’d bought away.

“Hell yeah, blessed like daddy.” I heard Kason say walking into the kitchen behind me.

“That’s the umbilical cord babe but yeah we’re having boys.” I said smiling at him when he wrapped me up in a hug.

“I knew that, I love you.” he said looking me in the eyes and smiling down at me.

“I love you to.”

“No I mean I’m in love you Amara.” I looked in his eyes and saw how sincere he was being and knew that I had been worrying about nothing. And that Kason meant what he said.

“I know you are Kace, I’ve been waiting for you to finally say it and stop avoiding the subject when I asked you about it.”

“I know and I wasn’t avoiding the subject I was finding the perfect time to ask you to be my wife. This is why I couldn’t make it, I was looking for the perfect ring for you and lost track of time.” He went to take something out of his pocket and I stared at him in shock as he went down on one knee in front of me.

“What are you- Kason.”

“When we first met I knew there was something special about you. I wanted to have you in my corner always, not only were you sexy as hell you challenged me to always want to do and be my best. You made me a better man and I can only hope I’ll be a good of a husband as you deserve. I knew I was in love with you the moment you said yes to being my girlfriend. You’ve always been the one for me and I hope that this ring shows how much I mean that. Amara Lynn Simms, will you marry me?” He opened the box to reveal the most beautiful ring I’d ever laid eyes on. The diamond wasn’t too big and was princess cut with smaller diamonds around the silver band. It was the ring I’d always dreamed about getting from the man I love.

He put the ring on my finger and I couldn’t help but smile and give him a kiss after he stood up to his full height.

“I love you.”

“I love you too.”

A few days later we announced our engagement as well as revealed the gender of the babies. Everyone was happy and congratulated us on our exciting news. We both decided that we wanted to get married before the babies were born. But that idea soon changed when the venue that I wanted was no longer an option.

“We should wait.” I said to Kason as we were driving home from the wedding planners office. We had a date set and she was going to look into other venues for us but I wasn’t sure I wanted to see them.

“Wait for what?”

“Wait to get married.”

“Amara we’ll find another venue.”

“Kace I’m serious, ever since I was a little girl I wanted to get married there. It’s apart of my dream wedding, I know it may sound stupid but I want to have my dream wedding. If that means waiting two years to have it, then I’ll wait.”

“You sure you’re okay with waiting?”

“Yeah, I’m fine with it. Plus I’ll have time to get my snap back body for my dress.”

“Alright, I’ll call the wedding planner and let her know. And you’d look beautiful if you kept or lost the baby weight.”

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome beautiful, how about we go out tonight?”

“I’d love that.”
