Chapter 4

It’d been a few weeks since we’d talked to our parents about Brandy and we took their advice and it seemed to be working. She started hanging out with us more. And I could tell that her and Kellan were developing feelings for one another. I was happy for my little brother and hoped that he would end up with his girl. I only wished it were that easy for me, there was something about Madison that made me want to get to know her better. But each chance I got she shot me down and put my focus back on our project.

Family weekend was coming up and I wanted to invite her and her family to come watch the game with mine. She had told me how much her little brother wanted to see me play in person instead of on tv. But couldn’t because the tickets were too much for her parents to get. I talked to mom and asked if it’d be okay for him to attend the game and she told me as long as his doctors gave the okay. She even offered to get a sky box so that he could be comfortable watching the game. All I needed was for Madison to say yes.

“What’s up playboy?” I was on my way to the library to meet up with her when I ran into Kendrick.

“Nothing much.”

“Where have you been? I haven’t seen you at any of the recent parties.”

“Been busy with homework and practice. You know I don’t go out as much during the season.”

“I know but we miss having you around bro. I heard you were getting close to that thick chocolate female in your Physiology class. I’ve seen her around campus with her sorority and I must say you did good with that one.”

“Don’t refer to her as a female and we are getting our project done.”

“You know I’m kidding man damn, if I didn’t know any better I’d say that she’s your girl.”

“She’s not but still have some respect for her.”

“Okay man, I’ll see you later alright.”

“Alright.” We did our handshake and I walked into the library. When I got there I walked up to the table that Madison was sitting at. She had her headphones in but acknowledged me with a smile and wave. I took out my notebooks and laptop while she finished whatever she was doing. She took her headphone out and gave me another smile.

“Hey, how was class?”

“Boring but I’m almost finished.”

“Keep reminding yourself that.”

“I will, are your parents coming to visit you next weekend?”

“I don’t know, my brother has to get the okay from his doctor before they can make plans. I hope that they can come it’s been awhile since I’ve seen them. I try to go home as much as I can but it’s hard when I have homework, work, and sorority obligations.”

“Well if they do decide to come I wanted to give you these tickets to the game so that your brother can see me play in person.”

“Knox that’s really sweet of you but I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“I want you guys to come, my mom even got a sky box so that he can watch comfortably. I even managed to get him some on field passes so that he can met a few of the guys on the team. I would also love seeing you wearing my jersey while you watch me play.” I said giving her the signature Miller smile.

“That’s really generous of you and your mom but I can’t accept these. Even if my parents do come they’ll only spend a few hours with me then leave. They can’t afford to get a hotel room and my apartment is to small for them to spend the night.”

“Don’t worry about that. My parents rent a house every year so there’s more than enough room for them to stay. You don’t have to give me an answer now but think about it and let me know. I have to head to practice but I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Okay I’ll think about it, have a good practice.” I left the library hoping that she would say yes and like the idea that I’m one step closer to asking her out.

Since the soccer season was over I had more time on my hands to go to the library and get homework done. When I got there I saw my brother’s physiology partner Madison sitting at a table by herself and decided to join her. From the times she’s spent at our apartment I had developed a friendship with her. It was interesting to see a girl not fall for my brothers charm. I wasn’t sure if she noticed all the changes my brother had been making to impress her.

“Hey, Kellan.”

“Hi, mind if I join you?”

“No your brother just left for practice a few minutes ago.”

“I know, I saw him when I was walking in. Did he ask you about family weekend?”

“Yes and I told him I would think about it.”

“I hope you say yes, I’ve never seen my brother do so much to impress a woman before. It’s fun to see.”

“Is he telling you to say this to me?” She asked looking at me skeptically.

“No, I know that he’s not a serious relationship guy but he really likes you and wants to make a good impression. I’m not saying forget his reputation but give him a chance to prove himself to you.”

“What if I do and he ends up treating me like he treats all the other girls he’s been with?”

“That’s not going to happen because he wants you to meet our mother. If there’s one thing I know about my brother is that he only lets a girl met mom if she’s more than a quick fuck.”

“I guess I’ll talk to my parents about family weekend and see what they say but that does not mean I want to date your brother. He’s a good friend but I don’t think we can be anything more than that.”

“I understand but I hope you can come, I would love to meet your little brother he seems like a good kid.”

“He’s awesome, he loves soccer so meeting you and your brother will make him really happy.”

I think he might explode from happiness when he meets our dad.”

“Who’s your dad?”

“Boxing legend Kason the Killer Miller.”

“No way.”

“Yeah he retired when we were about five but we went to a few of his matches.”

“My dad is going to say yes just to meet your dad. He’s a huge boxing fan.”

“That’s good, well I hope your family decides to join us.” I smiled and she looked at the clock and started to pack her stuff.

“Me to, it was nice talking to you Kellan. I have to go to work soon but I’m sure Knox will let you know my decision.”

“He will, bye Madison.”

“Bye.” After she left I went back to studying before leaving to get something to eat from the dining hall. Although I didn’t get to see Brandy today I was happy that she texted me and let me know that she was doing okay.
