Chapter 8

I wasn’t planning on kissing Madison after I took her out to dinner Tuesday but I’m glad that I did. I enjoyed spending time with her and she looked so beautiful that I couldn’t help myself. I was shocked when she kissed me back and even more shocked when she pulled away to go inside her apartment and closed the door in front of my face with a quick “bye”. It didn’t help that she avoided me in class the next day and barely looked at me when we worked on our project in the library.

Our families were coming tonight and I wanted to get the chance to talk to her before we all had dinner together in a few hours.

“I think we are ready to submit the next part of the project. Was there something else you wanted to add before I turn it in?” She asked pushing her glasses up on her face.

“No, everything looks fine to me. Can we talk about what happened on Tuesday?”

“We were two friends hanging out, nothing more nothing less.”

“I’m talking about the kiss Madison.”

“It was the spur of the moment and probably didn’t mean anything to you.”

“That’s not true at all, if it didn’t mean anything to me I wouldn’t be thinking about kissing you again as well as in different places other than your lips.” I was done walking around the topic and needed Madison to know that I wanted to be more than friends with her.

“So you want to have sex with me?”

“Yes, I’ve wanted to have sex with you the moment I met you what man in his right mind wouldn’t. You’re an incredibly beautiful woman and I am attracted to you.”

“Is that why you’ve been spending so much time with me?”

“No not entirely, I’ve been spending time with you because I enjoy your company and want to get to know you better. You’re the first woman that I’ve met here that hasn’t thrown herself at me or wanted to be with me because I come from a rich family or an NFL prospect. I never intended to kiss you the way I did but I don’t regret doing it.”

“Why are you telling me this now?”

“I’m saying this now because I want to introduce you to my parents as my girlfriend. You’re beautiful, intelligent, hard working, and haven’t taken any shit from me. For a long time I was looking for someone to just hang out with and would see me as just Knox, and that someone is you.”

“We haven’t even gone out on a proper first date yet.”

“I know, which is why I was hoping I could take you out for breakfast Monday morning.”

“I’ll have to think about it.”

“You just love making me wait don’t you.”

“It’s fun watching you squirm, I’d love to have breakfast with you on Monday. But I have one condition.”

“What’s that?”

“You have to take me to this party my sorority is having Saturday night.”

“I would be honored to, I have to go met my parents before I go to practice but I’ll see you later okay.”

“Alright.” I kissed her then left the library and headed to my apartment to get my stuff for practice. When I got there my parents were sitting on the couch talking to Kellan.

“What’s got you smiling like an idiot?” my dad asked amused at my happy attitude

“That’s the same face your father had when I told him I was pregnant. You didn’t knock up one of your little thots did you?” she asked ready to smack me in the back of my head.

“No mom, no one is pregnant.”

“Then what’s got you so happy? I haven’t seen you like this since you got your first car.”

“I have a date on Monday with the most beautiful girl in the world. Well next to you mom”

“If she’s as beautiful as me she must be special. When are we going to meet her?”

“Is this the one that didn’t fall for your playboy attitude when she found out you were her partner?”

“Yes.” She smiled and held out her hand to my dad.

“I told you he’d ask her out before Thanksgiving, pay up.” My dad rolled his eyes but pulled out his wallet and gave her a hundred dollar bill.

“You guys bet on when I would ask Madison out?”

“Yes, I knew the moment you told me about her you would fall for her. She mellows out your cocky attitude and seems to make you a lot happier. I know you feel that because you are the oldest you have to be somewhat of a good example and take care of your younger siblings but you don’t have to.”

“Thanks mom, I know you’ll love her when you meet her.”

“Just make sure you keep her happy long enough to be my daughter in law, we need more women in this family.”

“I don’t think that will happen for awhile but I’ll keep it in mind. I have to head to practice but I’ll meet you guys at the restuarant later okay.”

“Okay be safe.”

Since the night of Brandy’s incident I’d been spending most of my time in class and at the hospital with her. I told my parents what had happened and they both offered to help in anyway that they could. It pissed me off seeing the shit Luke did to her and even madder that he tried to say that she lied about him abusing her.

From what Knox told me, the team had suspended him until they got more details but he knew that the coach was against abuse towards women and would be kicked off the team soon. The only reason he wasn’t kicked off yet is because the athletic director was friends with his parents and was trying to reason with the coach so that he could stay on the team by taking some classes.

It didn’t help that he had people posting things about Brandy and exposed her past that she obviously wanted kept secret. I kept my promise and did everything I could to get her the help she needed. My mom was able to give me the number to her therapist who gladly came to see her and would continue to talk with her once she was out of the hospital. I stayed with her over night whenever I could but from what her parents told me, she hadn’t been able to sleep well whenever I wasn’t around.

She talked to me about it and said that she’d been having dreams about Luke abusing her and all the things that led her to want to attempt suicide. My mom agreed to come see her when they came to visit for family weekend. I tried the best I could but it broke my heart to see her so shaken up. I was on my way to the hospital when Luke walked up to me in the parking lot.

“How’s my bitch doing?”

“Don’t call her that and why would you care?”

“I’ve known her for six years, she’s only pulling you into her trap. Don’t be stupid enough to be her next victim.”

“You really think she’s using me. She could barely see out of one eye, had to have her jaw wired shut and it hurts for her to breath after the shit you did to her. I don’t think someone that was trying to take my money would go through so much trouble to do it.”

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you. It’s the crazy one’s you have to watch out for.”

“She’s not crazy and I don’t need you to warn me about shit, one day karma is going to get your ass and you’re going to wish that you never laid a hand on her.”

“I highly doubt that, I’ve got a lot of friends in high places who are willing to make sure I get back on the team and this little mishap is forgotten before the combine in March.”

“You’re not the only one with friends in high places Luke, mine just happen to have morals and don’t like women beaters. Now if you can move out of my way I have someplace I need to be.”

“Going to visit her?”

“What? Mad that she actually enjoys the company of a man that doesn’t use her as a punching bag.”

“I didn’t touch the bitch, she’s into that fifty shades of grey shit and I was only doing what she asked.”

“That’s bullshit and you know it.”

“Mad that I already slept with her, she’s a vocal one to. The things she can do with that mouth.”

“Shut up.”

“Getting upset?”

“You’ve got one more time before I fuck you up.”

“I’m not scared of you.”

“You should be, but I know you aren’t going to do anything because you would never be man enough to hit someone your own size. No, you prefer them to be smaller and unable to defend themselves. If I ever hear you that you are talking about or near Brandy I will personally come and kick your ass.” I pushed him out of my way and got inside my car before I made good on my threats.
