Chapter 34

Candy

“Hey Damon.” I greeted him as I took the seat beside him in our second period class.

“What do you want?” Damon sighed, obviously annoyed with my presence.

If only he knew how much it hurt me to know that he hated me.

“I have some information I thought you might want to know.” I whispered, as the teacher started the lesson.

“Okay, what is it?“He asked, a hint of curiosity in his tone, but he was still annoyed.

“I’ve been told by multiple people that Sophia is cheating on you.” I told him, faking a sympathetic tone.

No one’s told me that, no one thinks she’s cheating on him, but I do. She hangs out with Garrett way too much, they’re obviously more than just friends.

So of course being the loyal girl I am, I had to tell Damon, he deserved to know, and it would ruin their relationship.

Then I’d finally be able to be Damon Blake’s girlfriend. That’s all I’ve ever dreamt of since the first day I saw him, all the way back in grade four.

On my first day of grade four I was all alone at recess and I saw Damon who was also alone. He was just sitting by the swing set and staring at these two other kids, Dylan and Sophia.

Just as I was about to go up to him and introduce myself, he stomped up to Dylan and said something to him, then Sophia stomped on his foot and ran away, with Dylan chasing after her.

Once again Damon was alone so I introduced myself to him and asked him about what happened.

He told me that Dylan was his best friend and Sophia was the girl he had a crush on, and Dylan was trying to take Sophia away from him.

I knew that Damon was jealous but he wouldn’t admit it. But to my delight a jealous Damon is a hateful Damon, so he started hating Sophia, blaming her for the wedge that was between Dylan and him.

I became secret friends with Damon after that, but when Dylan left, Damon decided he didn’t want to be friends with me anymore, and that was the end of it.

But now maybe things could go back to how they use to be. With Sophia out of the way, Damon and I can be friends again, and if I’m lucky, something more.

“Sophia isn’t cheating on me.” Damon said confidently.

“She is Damon, I even saw it with my own eyes.” I lied, still playing the sympathy card.

“What did you see, huh?” He asked, getting angry.

“I saw her kissing Garrett in a janitors closet. I was going in there with someone and found them in there.” I said sadly.

I’m such a good actress, I don’t even know why I’m in school when I can just move to Los Angeles and become a movie star.

“You’re a filthy liar.” He hissed, glaring at me with his best glare.

I suppressed a shudder of fear and kept my sympathetic act up, “I’m sorry Damon but I’m not lying.”

And that’s all it took for Damon to pull out his phone and text Sophia to meet him at lunch.

He was just too easy to manipulate at times, I almost felt bad for the guy, but this was for his own good.

Sophia isn’t right for him, I am. He needs me, even if he doesn’t know it yet.

Soon after the bell rang and it was lunch time. I let Damon storm off, before I followed him to we’re he was going to meet Sophia. I had to witness what was about to go down between them, I wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Damon stopped outside the cafeteria room, and leaned against a wall as he waited for Sophia to show up.

But when she didn’t show up five minutes later I got bored and decided to go sit with my friends for a little while before I checked back up on them.

“Hey guys.” I greeted everyone when I made it to my table.

“Things are getting serious between Damon and Sophia.” Alexis, the co-captain of the cheer squad told me when I sat down.

“I wouldn’t be too sure about that.” I said, and plucked a couple fries off her trey.

“What do you mean? They’re like, made for each other.” She replied dramatically.

I just rolled my eyes and smirked, she has no idea what’s about to happen.

About half way through lunch I remembered that Damon and Sophia were ‘talking’ and quickly made an excuse to ditch my friends.

Once I was in the hallway I faintly heard raised voices and followed them until I saw Damon and Sophia.

I hid behind a pop machine while I watched and listened to their fight.

“I don’t believe you. And also, Candy told me she saw you kissing him.” Damon said smugly.

I smiled when I heard Damon say my name, take that Sophia, I’m already becoming more important to him than you are.

“I don’t like Garrett like that and he most certainly doesn’t have any romantic interest in me, I can assure you of that.” Sophia replied desperately.

Poor baby, go cry me a river. Damon doesn’t trust you anymore so leave him alone and just drop it.

“How do you know he’s not interested in you? You’re beautiful, smart, funny, kind. Everything a guy wants in a girl.” Damon shot back, still very angry.

I could only see his back but it was tense, which was a good sign for me but not for Sophia.

“I’m going to tell you something, and you have to promise not to tell anyone.” Sophia said quietly, almost too quiet for me to hear, and looked around to make sure no one was around, thankfully not seeing me.

Damon took a step away from her and shook his head “Why should I listen to you, you’re a lying cheate-”

“Garrett’s gay.” Sophia blurted rather loudly, interrupting Damon.

I had to cover my mouth to muffle my gasp of shock so I didn’t blow my hiding place. It’s actually kind of depressing that Garrett’s gay, because he’s pretty hot.

“He’s gay?” Damon asked in disbelief, standing there with a dazed look on his face.

“Yes, but you can’t tell anyone that. It’ll ruin his school life and he’ll hate me forever.” She told Damon, giving him a serious, and a little bit threatening, look.

“So you really didn’t cheat on me.” He whispered his shoulders dropping and his back relaxing in relief.

“I told you I didn’t.” She mumbled, her face for the first time showing how hurt she was.

To be honest I don’t feel guilty about what I did, because even though they’re obviously not going to split up because of my setup, I have another plan.

“Sweetheart I’m so sorry. I promise that’ll never happen again, and I won’t tell anyone about Garrett.” Damon apologized, and wrapped her in a comforting hug.

I wished nothing more than for that to be me instead of her, but if my plan works the way I want it to, my wish might just come true.

“Hey Alexis, I have something to tell you.” I called when I walked into the school and saw her at her locker.

Yesterday after Sophia’s big reveal about Garrett, I took the rest of the day and night to plan how I would ruin their relationship for good.

“I hope it’s something juicy, because first period hasn’t even started yet and I’m already in a bad mood.” Alexis said, closing her locker so she could focus on what I was about to say.

“Oh it is. Yesterday I was talking with Damon and guess what he told me? Garrett, Sophia’s best friend, is gay.” I told her, a smug smile finding its way onto my face.

“No way! Are you sure he meant that Garrett?” She asked desperately.

I had forgotten until now that Alexis has a major crush on Garrett. Well that sucks for her.

“Sorry Lex but it’s definitely that Garrett.” I told her, patting her back sympathetically.

“Whatever, I better get to class.” she grumbled, and stomped off.

When she was out of view I let out a loud laugh and started for my first class. If I planned this right, by lunchtime most of the school will know Garrett’s little secret.
