Chapter 5

“911 what is your emergency?” a woman answered.

“There is a robbery in progress at Liberty Street Wall,” my voice broke.

“Stay calm, Miss. We are sending cops.”

“S-someone was just shot and his pulse is hardly there.”

“It’s okay. Take a deep breath in and out. We will send an ambulance too. Is there anyone else with you besides the perpetrator?”

“My friend is upstairs.” It was taking a while for Luke to come down. Was he okay?

“Stay hidden until the police come.”

“I can’t leave him.”

“The police will come and search for him.”

“I’m sorry, I need to go.”

“Miss. Miss! MISS!!” I laid the phone down on the table. When I reached the top of the stairs, I heard Luke scream. I rushed into the room to see Luke holding his arm in pain. I rushed over to him, but failed to notice the criminal standing there. Scott.

“Aria?” he asked as a smirk slowly grew on his face. “So this must be your boyfriend. Ha! Looks like he was doomed from the beginning.” He brushed my face with the sharp knife he used to puncture Luke. I tried to look away from him, but his grasp tightened around my cheeks. Luke found a gun behind him, but Scott hadn’t seemed to notice. “You’ve missed me haven’t you. You little bitch. Brittany is sitting at home, we’re engaged now,” he said showing off his ring. “You missed our ‘relationship’, don’t you? Silly Aria. You couldn’t see how badly I was playing you. Fucking you... Good memories. Huh? HA! I bet this guy can’t satisfy you like I can. Let’s show him, shall we?”

I was furiously shaking my head, when Scott ripped off my shirt. I squeezed my eyes shut. Suddenly, he stopped. I looked up to see Luke standing there with the gun in his hands.

“Let go of her,” Luke said in a pained voice as he pointed the gun towards Scott’s head.

“Like you can actually shoot that thing.”

Luke took the gun and pointed it to the painting right next to Scott’s head and pulled the trigger. The bullet had seared into the old lady’s head in the painting. Scott turned around and quickly let go of me.

“You can have that bitch back. She wasn’t my type anyway. She’s just a stupid little whore who goes around fucking people. Isn’t that right, Aria?” he taunted.

“Leave. Now.” Luke commanded.

“Did you really think I would leave that easily? Hand me the bag, bitch.” I heard the footsteps coming up the stairs, so I slowly got the bag. I was about to hand it to him, when the police officers came up with guns all aimed towards Scott.

“You are under arrest for first degree robbery and attempted murder. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be held against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney....”

Tears poured from my eyes as I looked at Luke.

"Aria, don't cry. Come over here."

"You were stabbed and it's all my fault. If it hadn't been for me you would be happy and not have a huge gash on your arm. How are you going to explain that to Clara? Why do you have to be so nice?"

"Miss, we are going to ask you to move. We need to bring your friend into the ambulance as well as the man downstairs."

"Could I come with him?" I asked as they put Luke onto a stretcher.

"Unless you are family, I'm afraid not."

"She's my fiancée," Luke sputtered out. I looked at him shocked. "Fiancée to be. I was going to propose to her." He pulled the ring out of his pocket. "This isn't how I wanted it, but will you marry me?" Luke asked. His eyes were so easy to get lost into.

I covered my mouth in shock and nodded. He slid the ring onto my finger. I acted as if it was Tyler who was proposing to me. I gave him a really right hug and whispered "This is the the second time now." He laughed a little.

"Okay. Let's go," the paramedic commanded.

Luke was put under anesthesia as well as Wade. Lucky for us if the ambulance had come one minute later, Wade would've been dead. When we reached the hospital Wade was urged into intensive care, and Luke was put into the emergency. As for me, I was stuck in the waiting room filling out sheets I had no idea of answering. A nurse finally came out after an hour or two. She told me that Luke went into surgery to get some stitches and needed to stay there the night.

"Could I see him?"

"He may be a little drowsy from the anesthesia," she said as she guided me to his room.

"Luke!" I whisper shouted. I went over to him and gave him a nudge.

"Hnngng," Luke mumbled.

"Luke wake up!" His eyes opened. "Luke you are only going to get discharged in the morning. We need to get you out of here now!"

"Clara. I met this girl named Aria. She's really pretty and I think....." Luke whispered.

"Luke snap out of it!"

"I love her. She is beautiful. I'm sorry Clara I can't marry you."

"Wait what did he just say?" I asked myself.
