Chapter 1
Mia’s life had never been a fairytale. Unlike her half-brothers, who had grown up with his parents and married his best friend, whom he had known his whole life.
No, her life had been less than perfect. Her Mom had been some fling in the string of woman her Dad had had, and she had no clue how many half-siblings she had. Then her Mom had died in a pool when she was an infant, and she had grown up in the most messed up household ever.
Her dad had been there, along with her half-brother, Finn – who had been a teenager. Mia's dad’s ex-wife had lived there too, along with another family who had also been going through some drama. Finn's best friend and now wife, Cassie, and her family had lived in the same house, and her parents had been happily married until John had started having an affair with Finn's mom under the same roof.
While all this had been going on, Mia's dad had gone on to have many more affairs with a string of younger and older women, along with Cassie’s mom for a while. Because of this, nobody but Cassie and Finn had been around to raise Mia, and they had done so beautifully. At a very young age, they had become parents.
And yet, in spite of her sketchy upbringing, Mia had turned out okay. She was a straight A’s student in primary school, popular and had many different extra-curricular activities. When she had turned fifteen, Mia had got a part-time job at the local bookstore, and it had looked like she was going to have a shining future.
That was, until her dad died and her boyfriend broke up with her, on the same day. Then it had all gone to shit.
