Chapter 10: Heart Attack

It’s 2 hours until the function.

Noah had arranged hair and makeup artists to come and doll me up before I got changed.

I called my mom and Tristan earlier to fill them in about what I’ve been up to.

Mom had spent the day with her friends and Tristan was staying at a friends house.

Then I Face-Timed Kira and Brett. They wanted me to call again once I had my dress on so they can approve it.

Friend code and all that!

So here I was at 7.25pm, facetiming my besties after being fluffed and primped with my dress on.

As soon as they saw it, the phone froze.

Or so I thought!

Their cheers through the phone almost deafened me.

We spoke for a few more minutes until Mrs. Trenton came to get me.

She gave me a hug and told me to enjoy tonight.

Noah was waiting at the bottom of the stairs, with his back to me.

The clicking of my heels must have alerted him because he spun round.

He looked dashing in his tux. He wore a suit everyday but this was on a whole other level!

His eyes widened as I walked down the stairs towards him. The dress I’d chosen was black, flowy and comfortable while still being beautiful. It was strapless and had a thin belt to cinch in the waist. The bottom of the dress was an ombre effect with pink, purple and peach. It looked like flames.

“Blake, you look.... wow!”

“You too.” I replied quietly, with a smile.

He led me outside to the limo waiting for us.

20 minutes later we arrived at yet another beautiful home.

There were photographers along the red carpet.

Thankfully Noah didn’t stop for any of them.

We had been greeted by the security at the door who ticked us off their list and opened the doors for us.

Walking down a hallway towards another set of doors, Noah knocked on them and they opened up to a room that had a golden glow about it due to the giant chandelier in the middle of the ceiling.

It was set up so beautifully for the meal portion of the night but it also had a bar and a dancefloor.

Oh how the other half lives!

Noah led me around the room with him, meeting people, making small talk.

Then we met Mr. Giles. The man we have a meeting with on Monday. We chatted for a while before he had to run off to find his wife.

“I’m going to go over to the bar and grab us drinks. Don’t move from this spot.” Noah instructed.

Am I a child?

While I was waiting, someone came up to me.

“Blake! This is why you blew me off yesterday?” Alex asked with an all knowing smirk.

“Yep. Duty called. What are you doing here?”

“I was invited. If I’d known you were going to be here, I would have insisted you were my plus one.” he said lifting my hand up to his lips again.

But before they could connect, my hand was snatched away by Noah.

“Too bad Carter. Where is your date for this evening?” he seethed.

“She’s somewhere around. It was good seeing you again, Blake. I’ll call you about that rain-check.”

He turned and walked away.

“What was that about?” I folded my arms across my chest.

“We’re going to dance. Come on.”

He pulled me over to the dance floor and put a hand around my waist with the other in my hand.

“You didn’t answer the question.”

“Ask another one.”

He looked really mad so to try and lighten the mood, I asked the one that had been burning on my mind since earlier.

“Why did you tell that woman I was your fiancée?”

His features softened a little and he chuckled.

“It was fun. The look on both your faces was a picture but yours especially.”

“Oh thanks. You do realise you gave me a heart attack with that stunt.”

“I know,” he smirked, “I bet I can give you another heart attack.”

“What do you mean?” I focused on him then.

“Well, wifey, I could do this.”

With that, he smashed his lips on mine and kissed me.
