Chapter 19: Tristan's Mission
By the time Noah got home, I had made dinner and dessert.
“You taking Mrs. Trenton’s job?” he asked when he came in.
“I gave her the night off. Her husband took her out.”
“Well it smells amazing.”
I plated it all up and placed it at the table.
Tristan was down now and since reading the letter, he was being weird.
He looked between me and Noah before speaking up.
“So, Noah, do you have a girlfriend?” he asked.
I felt like crawling under the table.
Would he tell him about us? What even were we?
Noah just laughed it off and went with it.
“I’m quite unattached, do you have a girlfriend, Tristan?”
“Nope. Are you looking for one?” he glanced at me.
I knew what was going on now.
I got up and pulled Tris by his ear to the living room before it went any further.
“Ow! What’s that for?” he screeched, rubbing his now very red ear.
“Show me your letter!”
“Just do it.” I motioned for him to put it in my hand.
He pulled it out his pocket and I found the exact line.
‘Make sure Blake has someone to take care of her. She needs a little extra push. You know what to do.’
My mother is a devious woman!
It made me smile, thinking about it.
But I still clipped Tris around the ear.
“Again, ow! I’m just doing what mom asked me to.” he grinned.
Shaking my head at him, we went back to dinner.
After we started eating, Noah started making noises.
“Are you okay?” I had to ask. Make sure he wasn’t having an aneurysm or something.
“Sorry, its just this is delicious. Don’t tell her I said this, but this is even better than Mrs. Trenton’s cooking.” he replied, making us all laugh.
“Total wifey material, my sister. Right, Noah?”
This kid was really pushing his luck tonight.
I glared at him to shut up but Noah made it worse.
“She already is wifey. Didn’t she tell you what happened while we were in London?” he winked at me.
Tristan looked to me with wide eyes.
“What happened?! You didn’t get married did you?!” he looked upset, but not because we apparently got married, but because he was left out and knew nothing about it.
“No! He just made a comment to a snotty sales lady, that’s all.” I looked to Noah and he couldn’t contain his laughter.
My cheeks were heating up by the second and I knew I had to abort mission right away.
I stood and started tidying up.
At the sight of chores, Tris ran off.
So it was just me and Noah.
He came over and started drying up.
He brushed his arm against mine and at first, I thought it was an accident.
Until he did it again and then deliberately leaned over me with his lips close to mine as he grabbed one of the bowls to dry.
“If your cheeks get any brighter, they’ll see you from the moon.” he remarked.
He knew what he was doing.
He brought out the child in me and I stuck my tongue out at him.
“If you don’t want me to tickle you again, Miss Price, you better put that tongue away.”
I ran off.
I could hear his laughter through the entire house.
