Chapter 21: Bossy

I woke up to the beeping of machines.

I also felt a hand around mine.

Looking down at it, it was attached to a body, who’s head was laid on the bed.

I recognised that soft, gorgeous hair. Seriously, he could put women to shame with those locks.

It was Noah.

Last night he spoke to me, when he thought I wasn’t listening.

Last night

Noah picked up my hand and held it.

“You scared the life out of me tonight, Blake. I thought you were gone. Then what? Who would Tristan have?...... Who would I have to tease?” he chuckled to himself.

“I know Tristan needs you but its more than that, Blake.... I need you. I don’t know why but I do and when I saw you tonight, it brought that crashing down harder than ever. Please wake up.” he whispered.

I moved a little to get comfortable and it woke him up.

“Blake?” his husky morning voice was dreamy.

As opposed to my croaky, dry voice.

“Thank god!” he pulled me into a hug. “What happened last night, Blake?”

“I honestly don’t know. I lied, when I told you I was fine. I’d felt weird all day and then I don’t remember much from when I got home.”

I really didn’t.

I remember getting in the car and speaking to Mike, the driver, on our way to the house. Then saying a quick hello to Tris before going upstairs. After that I don’t remember a thing.

The doctor came in and checked me over before discharging.

Tristan was still at school when we got back to the house.

When he got back he wouldn’t let me go.

He didn’t know what happened because Noah had kept my arms hidden from him under the blanket at the hospital.

And he would never find out.

He would never forgive me. Losing mom and then losing me due to my own cause.

He bought the story that I had slipped and hit my head in the bathroom.

I woke up the next day and got ready for work.

Going downstairs for breakfast, Noah looked confused.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

“Getting ready for work. Why?”

“Absolutely not!”

I was stunned for a minute. He’d never raised his voice like that.

“I’m going to leave you to it.” Tristan walked off, noticing the tension.

“You aren’t going back yet.” Noah said, crossing his arms against his chest.

“Why not?”

“You just got out of the hospital, yesterday. You need to take it easy.”

“The doctor said everything’s fine so I am going back to work.” I’m stubborn, sue me!

I went to move around him but he held me in place.

“Blake, its too soon.”

“It will be fine. Please, I can’t sit around and wallow in whatever this is.”

He stared into my eyes and it always made my nerves on end when he did that. My insides fluttered.

“Promise me, you’ll tell me if you start feeling it again.” he finally whispered.

“I promise.”

He gave a nod and then we continued getting ready for work.
