Chapter 23: Scary Kira

I am sat in my office, going through emails, when Kira walks in.

Taking a seat in the chair opposite mine, she stares me down after handing me lunch.

“What is going on between you and bossman?”

“What---”

“And don’t try to lie to your bestie because Tristan told me something is going on.” her ‘try me bitch’ tone coming out in full force.

Dang it, Tris!

“Fine. We’ve kissed a couple of times but that’s it. There’s nothing actually going on, Ki.”

“Ok, well that’s good because as your friend, I would have been obliged to punch him in the face.”

“Why?”

“On my way back from picking up our lunch, I saw him necking on with some bimbo outside a restaurant.” she pulled a face.

“Oh... Well good for him.”

I wasn’t going to let on that it actually kind of pissed me off. It shouldn’t to be honest. He wasn’t mine so I had no right to be mad about it but that didn’t mean I wasn’t.

She looked at me incredulously but thankfully didn’t say anything, just continued eating lunch.

We spoke some more but about different topics.

Noah came back and stepped into my office.

“Hey.”

When neither of us answered, he looked confused.

Damn your good looks!

Kira got up and as she walked out said,

“She don’t wanna talk to you”

Way to be subtle, Ki!

When she left, he spoke again.

“What’s going on?”

“Nothing”

With that I continued my work and he slowly left the room.

NOAH’S POV

To say I was confused was an understatement.

I needed answers and I knew Blake wouldn’t give them, so I went to her crazy ass friend.

When I arrived at her cubicle on the finance floor, she looked up.

“Can I help you, Mr. Anderson?”

“Yes, you can tell me what’s up with Blake.”

“Oh that. Well, as her best friend, its my job to protect her from guys who are just trying to get some. So, when I saw you with some woman kissing outside a restaurant, you see where I’m going with this?”

Damn it! That isn’t how any of it went down.

I had to explain to Blake.

As I turned to leave, Kira stopped me.

“Listen here, Mr. Anderson. If you hurt her in any way, I won’t hesitate to smack you. Boss or not. Got it?”

I have to admit, I was a little scared of this firecracker of a woman so I just nodded and left.

When I got back to the office, Blake wasn’t there.

I tried calling to find out where she was but she didn’t answer.

Texting her, the reply was short.

Tris sent home sick’

So she had gone home.

I was on edge the rest of the day until I could leave.

When I got back it was 7pm and Mrs. Trenton had my dinner waiting.

They had already ate.

“Where is everyone?” I asked.

“Tristan is in bed, Blake is in the library.”

So I headed off to explain.

I indeed found her in the library.

She had her head in a book and didn’t look like she would be out of it anytime soon, so I just watched.

The way her hair fell around her face and her eyes changing with every line of the book she read. Between anger, happiness, sadness and back again.

When she finally looked up, she jumped realising I was there.

“How long have you been there?” she asked.

“Long enough.”

She got up and started out the door.

“I know why your mad.” I called after her.

“I’m not mad. Whatever you do in your time is none of my business.”

“It’s not how Kira saw it.”

“Ok.”

“Hear me out, Blake. Tiffany kissed me. As soon as she did, I pushed her off. Yes, we had a thing a long time ago, but not anymore.”

BLAKE’S POV

“You don’t need to explain yourself, Noah. It’s not like we have anything going on anyway.”

His next words had me stopped in my tracks.

“Go on a date with me.”

It wasn’t a question. It was more of a demand.

“Why?”

“Because I’m running out of reasons not to.”

“You’re not going to let this go, are you?”

“Nope.” he said with a heart stopping smile.

“Fine. One date.” I sighed and walked away.
