Chapter 31: Running
A MONTH LATER
Tristan had gone off to summer camp with his friends and girlfriend. He was going to be gone for 3 weeks.
I was at work, searching through my bag for a pen. All of the ones in my office had somehow disappeared.
A ball of paper fell on the floor out of my bag and I didn’t bother picking it up.
I had to go to the stocks floor to get some files.
When I got back to my office, Noah was holding something.
The scrunched up paper.
“What is this?”
I took it out of his hand and re-read it.
“Someone gave it to me at the ball. Probably meant for someone else.” I shrugged.
He took it and put it in his jacket.
He just pulled me to him and kissed me before leaving my office.
I knew who sent that note. Well not who but I knew of them because I had gotten one a few days after the masquerade ball.
I thought it was just another disgruntled ex-employee or someone who’d lost their stock share.
I went to my office and located the note.
I called Jamieson and he was here in no time.
He compared the handwriting.
“You’re right. They’re written by the same person. I’ll take them with me and do some of my magic. I’ll let you know what I find.”
“So, meeting the parents, huh?” he asked.
“How the hell did you know?”
“Dude, I’m a hacker. I know everything..... And your sister told me.” he smirked.
“Yeah. I took her to meet my parents. Is that a bad thing?”
“No. Its just it must be serious if your doing that. You’ve been together what, 2 months?”
“Oh my god, you’re actually counting? You, my friend, are whipped.” he laughed.
“So, what if I am?”
“Nothing. I’m happy for you, bro.” he gave me a bro hug before leaving.
I knew I was whipped. I had been since the first time I kissed her at that function.
I had never been this guy. The one completely fawning over someone and hanging on their every word.
What have you done to me, Blake Price?
“I’ve looked into it and I found something. Don’t ask me how because most of it was illegal. But the notes were sent by someone Blake knows....”
Blake walked in a second before he said this.
She looked at me before speaking to Jamieson.
“Who was it?” she asked.
He sighed on the other end of the phone.
“They were sent by your Dad, Blake.”
She went into a state of shock.
I told Jamieson I’d call him back and then went over to her.
I tried to bring her back from the daze she was in.
“Blake? Talk to me.”
“This isn’t right. I can’t get you involved.” she whispered.
“I’m already involved, Blake.”
“No,” she shook her head, calculating something in her head. “I have to go. I have to leave here. I can’t let him hurt you.” she cried.
“Blake, you’re not going anywhere.”
“I have to. I’m sorry.” she breathed before she ran out of the office. I tried catching up with her but the elevator doors closed before I could.
I took the stairs but I was still too late. She was gone.
She had driven us this morning so by the time my driver arrived, she was already at home doing god knows what.
