Chapter 14

A women’s heart
Is a deep ocean of secrets.

The day went as normal as it can get. As promised Blake was there with me, but only till lunch after that I only saw him in classes. It felt like something was bothering him, then on our way back home he said that Chris asked to go on a date with him on Saturday and he was freaking out. As for Edward, he never brought up yesterday’s topic which I was glad for, and we talked about tomorrow’s test. I cleared his non-existent doubts and questions.

Now sitting on my study desk, revising for tomorrow’s test, so engrossed that when my phone rang, I fell on the floor my heart skipping a beat.

“Sweetie are you alright?” My mom shouted from downstairs, concern present in her voice.

“Yeah, I’m okay.” I shouted back and looked at my phone screen to see an unknown number calling I picked up. “Hello?” I asked, but there was no reply from the other side. Retreating my phone back to see if it was still connected suddenly a deep sigh was heard from the other end, when suddenly the person from the other end hung up.

I stared at my phone as if doubting its existence and thought, “Weird.”

Thinking that I’ll lose my mind any moment, I closed my books and got ready for bed. Showering and brushing my hair and teeth, I changed into my PJs and laid down on bed, setting the alarm. It was only 10 but I realized that I have to get a really good sleep for tomorrow’s test, I skipped Netflix for a night.

I woke up at the sound of my alarm, and didn’t waste any minute to get ready for school. I was more excited today as it was Friday, that means I have a whole weekend to do nothing that concerns study.

I chose to wear a nude-colored top with faded blue skinny jeans, matched with nude flats.

Getting ready I rushed downstairs to see my mom as usual in the kitchen with a coffee in her hand and three plates for breakfast set on the table with bacon and eggs on it.

After greeting my mom with a kiss on the cheek, I sat on one of the chairs and started eating my food when I heard Blake rushing out of his room screaming about how he woke up late today.

Mom and I looked at each other and giggled at his behavior while he was literally shoving his food down.

Soon we left for school. On the way all Blake was talking about was his date on Saturday with Chris. I always knew something was going on between both of them.

“What do you think? Does he really like me?” At this question I rolled my eyes.

“No, he asked you out so that he can have a chance with Wren.” I replied sarcastically, and continued, “Of course he likes you dude. Why else would he ask you out?”

“I know, it’s just I’m so scared. I never got this nervous before.”

We reached school and I left Blake hyperventilating. He was over reacting to the situation.

I went to my locker to see Edward there, taking out his books from his locker. I walked towards him when he didn’t notice me.

“You’re early today.” I said while taking out my books.

“Uh... Yeah I uh... Wanted to talk to you. If you don’t mind of course.” He said and I thought that he will bring up the topic of last time.

“Actually, I have some work to do. If you don’t mind, we can talk later of course.” I replied and he just nodded and I went to the library, when I heard my phone ringing.

I looked at the caller ID to see the same unknown number calling I picked up in hopes that the person will answer this time and said “Hello?” But still there was no reply so I waited for a second before saying, “If you don’t want to talk, you are not supposed to call,” I said before rudely hanging up. It’s creepy receiving calls from a person who doesn’t even talk to you.

Not wanting to go to the library I changed the direction towards Amber’s locker to see her chatting with Ryder- sorry correction- making out with Ryder. Feeling disgusted I cleared my throat loud enough for them to hear as they jumped apart from the heated conversation they were having and looked my way.

Ryder nodded my way once before looking at Amber again and giving her a quick peck on the lips and left in the other direction. I looked at Amber to see her blushing profusely as she adjusted her make-up and hair.

“Hi!” She said not making eye contact.

“Hi.” I replied, more as a whisper and raising my eyebrows at her.

This is the first awkward conversation we are having in a long time.

“You do realize I have to sanitize my eyes now. Oh god please bless me with some Holy water. I will go to church right after school.” I said.

“You’re exaggerating. As if you haven’t seen anyone kiss before.” She said and rolled her eyes as we made our way to Wren’s locker.

“Well, you’re right but still, I can’t stand this.”

We reached Wren’s locker and saw her taking out the books for her next classes.

“Hey! We still on for the sleepover, right?” Wren asked once she saw us coming.

“As I said I am in. The question is are you dear Amber?” I asked giving her a knowing look.

“Yeah. I just have to tell him. I’ll do it later.” She said while her face grew crimson red.

“You mean you had the time to make out with him, but forgot to inform him about the more vital information?” I asked to which Wren jumped in.

“Wait. Am I missing something?” She asked and I filled in about what I witnessed, which has left me scarred for the rest of my life.

“You guys are going to hold this against me until the day I die, right?” Amber asked and we just nodded our head smiling evilly at her. She just sighed.

The warning bell rung and we made our way to the respective classes. I entered my psychology class and sat at my usual seat. A moment later, when the bell for the start of the first period rung the door swung open and in came Edward. He scanned the class until his eyes landed on me and the guy who is supposed to be my partner.

Without thinking he made his way towards me and glared at the boy. Before he could do anything I asked, “What are you doing here? You are not in this class.” I asked but his gaze was constant on the poor guy who was now thinking of the ways to escape his gaze. Then he replied not moving his eyes.

“I got some changes in my schedule.”

By now the guy just took his bag and ran to the front of the class, fear visible by his action. Edward didn’t waste a second before sitting in the chair next to me.

“If you don’t mind, can I see your upgraded schedule?” I asked sensing something odd. He just shrugged his shoulders and passed me the piece of paper, while the teacher in the front started the class.

I looked at the schedule and while reading every class I looked at it with shock filling me and asked him, “Are you sure you didn’t just change the name on my schedule as yours?” He was looking at the front of the class while smirking.

“I told you I want to talk to you so by this you practically can’t ignore me.” He replied with a smug expression.

I shook my head in disbelief while looking at him, then paying attention to the class, as the teacher announced about some group project.

“The groups will be your choice.” On these words the whole class started cheering, but the teacher shut us up and continued. “Nah. I don’t like you guys so much, so I will be assigning the groups to you.” And the class started groaning, well except for me. I didn’t really care who was in the group with me. “There will be 3 students in the group and I have a perfect idea for that. As you see you all can see, I have a bowl with all your names on it. Of course, the ones who are best in the class and score nothing less than an A, don’t have their names in this. They will be choosing two slips, and those two will be in their team.” Another round of groaning is heard as the teacher announced the names that are not in the bowl, and obviously mine was also there.

“Oh, how much I love to see these sad faces.” Teacher said, “Josh, you go first.” One by one, the students started to speak the names of their teammates.

“Ava, you’re next.” I went to the front of the class and dug out two chits. I opened the first one and my eyes widened at the name on it. No this can’t be.

“Sir can I choose another one please?” I requested but he denied saying that rules are rules. I sighed and said the name as the whole class waited for me to speak up. “Lauren Anderson.”

“What no! Anyone but her.” I heard her speak up.

“Miss Anderson, shut it.” The teacher said rather rudely. “Who is the next one?”

I sighed looking around the class and caught Edward with the ever so much hope in his eyes. You could actually see the twinkle in his eyes. Sighing, I opened the slip and said the second name. “Edward Knights.” And then I heard a loud ‘yes!’ from the back of the class to see Edward actually do a fist bump in the air, and then I saw Lauren’s face to see her practically swooning. I can’t do this. God help me.

But the damage was done and I couldn’t do anything but walk back to my seat and that’s what I did.
