First love is, only a little foolishness
And a lot of curiosity.
The night roles by faster than expected. And for the first time in a long time, I wasn’t eager to get out of bed. I know that it’s my fault to choose to sleep late, but my mom got back and what else do you expect a girl to do who missed her mother terribly.
With a heavy heart, I left my bed and started to get ready for another day. Not giving any effort in dressing up, I walked downstairs to greet mom and Blake.
Blake was sitting by the kitchen counter but mom was nowhere to be found.
“She’s still sleeping.” He answered my thoughts, while stuffing his face with cereal. I nodded and got myself a bowl and had the same.
“So, we’ll go together today?” I asked while pouring milk.
He quickly finished the food in his mouth while bobbing his head up and down.
“Yeah, and guess what?” He answered.
He extended his hand holding his key and sliding it across the counter.
“You get to drive my car.”
“Really!? Thanks, but why?” I greedily snatched the keys, holding them tightly in my hands.
“Don’t feel like driving.” He shrugged it off. Is something off? Something is definitely not right here.
We made our way outside after I wrote a note to mom when she wakes up, I started the car and we drove off.
Lunch rolled up quickly and even after a whole week of me and Edward being together, the stares and whispers never stopped, honestly, it’s exhausting now.
It is not easy to interact with Edward or Asher or whatever. I don’t even know what to call my supposed boyfriend. I am positive by now that he doesn’t remember me so I behave like I don’t know a thing but then why did he change his name? Was Asher even his real name? Is Edward his real name? These are the questions that I am dying to know the answers of but also cannot ask them directly.
Sitting down at our table, I realized how much more invested my 2 best friends have been in their relationships. More than what I have been. They were shocked to the core when Edward and I entered the school holding hands for the first time. And trust me when I say this, I don’t know what happened in my classes, they wouldn’t stop bugging me. Now the steam has been cooled down a bit on our table, but the rest of the school still can’t get over it.
I took the seat beside Adam on my left and an empty chair to be filled by Edward. Name of the devil, and he walks in taking the seat beside me and giving me a peck on the cheek. Glad he didn’t go to kiss me. I don’t know what I would’ve done.
“Are you okay?” He asked, taking my hand in his. “Are we okay?” He asks still worried.
“Why do you always ask that? It’s not like I’m going anywhere.” For now. But I didn’t say the last part.
“I know. I’m just scared that this is too good to be true.” He said. Bringing my hand to his lips, he kissed my knuckles and caressed my hand.
“You don’t have to be. I won’t leave you unless you give me a reason to.” I said truthfully.
“I won’t, trust me.” We looked at each other and smiled.
“Ava, we need to go.” Amber said, and I looked at her with a confused face. Then I noticed that Wren too stood up and they both made their way to pull me up by my arms, letting the other one slip from Edward’s grasp.
“But why?” I questioned with a whine, and I can’t believe I just whined. Who is this person?
They said nothing and dragged me out towards the restrooms.
“What’s on Friday?” They asked in unison.
“I don’t know, weekend?” I questioned.
“No, Adam asked me to go out with him on Friday.” Wren answered. I was a little uncomfortable because apparently, I have to keep this a secret.
" And that is bad?” I asked again.
“It’s not. But Ryder asked me to ‘hang out’ this Friday.” Answered Amber.
“Bit of a coincidence to be honest, but I come in this how?” Well, I knew about Adam but nothing about Ryder. But then again, he is not that much fond of me after the library fiasco.
“We were thinking that you stayed with them for some time, so maybe you know what’s going on.” Wren said.
“I don’t know, honestly. Come to think of it, Edward also asked me if I was free on Friday.” I said, remembering the phone call yesterday.
“You think something’s going on?” She asked.
“I don’t know, I guess we’ll have to find out.”
We made our way back to the lunch table and Edward instantly grabbed my hand.
“What is going on?” I whispered to him. He looked at me and answered.
“I’ll tell you later.” He said the moment bell rung, signaling the end of break.
We both made our way to our next class, because as everyone knows, HE STOLE MY SCHEDULE! I am never letting that go.
We entered our psychology period and took our seats at the end of the room. The teacher was late so I asked Edward to tell me what was going on.
“The boys think that the secret has been kept for too long. So, they are going to tell them this Friday.” He said making my breath get caught in my throat.
“What?” I whispered softly, trying to overcome the shock. I knew about Chris telling Blake the moment he called but the girls? How will they handle it? Will they be able to? “Even Adam?” What would they think when they get to know that I knew?
He nodded. “But what about the date? That is supposed to be their big day.” I was panicking at this point.
“Well, let’s just say it’s a big day for all of them.” He answered.
The teacher entered and asked for the projects to be submitted, making my thoughts and breathing stop. Project? Crap! I totally forgot about it, what am I gonna do?
I looked at Edward with my eyes wide to see him with the same expression, we both were so caught up in us that we forgot that someone else’s grades also depend on the project we supposedly were to do.
We looked in front to see Lauren pull up a chair beside us and giving us the look with her eyebrows shot up and a frown on her lips.
“Weren’t you both supposed to submit it by now?” She asked the both of us and I’m surprised that she hasn’t smirked my way or have thrown a comment regarding anything.
Edward was about to speak but I answered before him. “Lauren we’re so sorry. I know that this is all our fault and you are going to suffer because of it.” I said, with guilt dripping in my tone, “I’ll talk to the professor and try to get an extension. You can even work with us to make sure its up to your liking, and I am again so sorry,” even if I don’t like her, I can’t make her grades suffer.
She sighed and pulled out a folder from her bag and placing it in front of us.
“What’s that?” Edward asked.
“The project that you both were supposed to do.” She said.
“But how...” I didn’t have any words to say. That was just so unexpected, I never thought that Lauren Anderson would be the one to help me pass my class.
“Ever heard of the term ‘beauty with brains’?” She said with a smirk and walked towards the teacher’s desk to drop the file.
“I see the brain, but where is the beauty?” Edward whispered in my ear to which I swatted his arm harshly.
“She is the reason we are passing this class. Be grateful for a while,” I hissed at him.
“Okay!” he exclaimed in defense.
“Lauren, thank you so much. I am really sorry for all the trouble you had to go through alone.” Never in a million years I thought I’d be saying these lines to the girl who despises me the most.
“It’s alright. Also, I wanted to say, you guys look cute together.” She said shocking me again.
“Are you high? Or do you have fever?” I asked, honestly worried.
She laughed and shook her head and she actually listened to the teacher during the lesson instead of flirting with Edward and again, I couldn’t pay attention to a thing. She did catch me off guard, so I am nowhere to be blamed.
