Chapter 20 - Cameron (Part 2)

He closed the distance between them and brushed his fingers over her arms. Goosebumps rose upon her flesh as electricity surged between them.

“The water’s clean, I assure you,” he whispered as he leaned into her.

A shiver shook her as his breath tickled her earlobe.

“I didn’t bring my bathing suit,” she protested.

“That’s okay. It’s just us here. No one will see you but me.”

He never used this voice before. It was foreign even to him. Pure seduction that tapped into her and like a sugar maple tree as sweet sap began to pool between her legs.

Pulling away, he flashed her a grin. He turned his back to her as he stripped out of his jean shorts and boxers and climbed down a few rocks before jumping into the water. The sharp bite of cold struck him immediately but the shock was quickly over as he swam to the surface. Blinking the water from his eyes, he grinned at Olivia standing on the bank ten yards away. Wide-eyed, she hadn’t moved a muscle. Her face was bright red again and the scent of the sweet nectar between her lower lips still lingered in the air around her.

She was going to drive him insane if she didn’t get in the water with him and wash that delicious aroma from her.

“Come on, Liv,” he called as he treaded. “Water’s great! You can swim, right?”

Crap, what if she can’t? Guess you’ll have to teach her. That thought made him grin even wider.

She folded her arms across her chest. “I’m not jumping in there naked.”

“Come on, live a little. You only live once.”

“Not happening.”

He swam to a rock and hoisted himself up. “Don’t make me come over there and throw you in.”

She peaked an eyebrow at him, eying him and the water trickling over his body. The rock concealed him from the waist down—for now. That would change if she decided to give him a hard time.

“You wouldn’t dare.”

“Oh, I do,” he smirked. “Even if I have to take your clothes off myself or throw you in, clothes and all.”

She sighed, looking away and rubbing her arms. “Okay, fine, but look away.”

“Why?”

“Cameron!”

“Why are you embarrassed? There’s no shame in nakedness. Not to me, anyway. It’s natural. Keep your bra and panties on if you want, just get in the water.”

“I don’t want you to see… me.”

“You’re joking right?”

“I have stretch marks, Cam.”

“So? Those are ribbons of pride. You carried and gave birth to my child. What is there to be ashamed of? That is your strength. Your power. I can’t do that. I can’t bring life into this world.”

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Turning her back, she said, “Okay, fine. But close your eyes and look away until I’m in the water.”

Like hell, I’ll look away! He grumbled to himself before pulling himself up on the rock and sitting down with his back to her.

Reminding himself to be patient, he closed his eyes and strained his ears, listening to the sounds of the forest and the rustling of her clothes coming off. He tried to undress her in his mind but couldn’t fill in the blanks and gave himself a raging hard-on.

A splash in the water had him opening his eyes and jumping in after her. He surfaced a few seconds after her and immediately swam after her.

Seeing him approaching, she swam away. “Don’t you dare!”

“Dare, what?” He grinned.

“Stay away from me, Cam!”

She was a lousy swimmer and he reached her swiftly despite her attempt to swim away from him. He pulled her into his arms and she squealed as she tried to fight him off. She definitely had no bra on, but he wasn’t sure about panties. Regardless, he happily smooshed her to his chest and refused to let her go.

“You’re mine, all mine,” he declared when she gave up the struggle and clung to him. He was only half joking, but she giggled naively and let him guide them to a shallow side of the pool where they could touch the rocky bottom with ease.

“Can Chloe swim?” he asked as he nuzzled her neck. Beads of water gathered there that he thirstily lapped up before they could tumble down over her breasts.

She shivered against him. “Not without a flotation device.”

“I’ll teach her to swim,” he whispered. “It will be good for her to learn young.”

He’d teach her to swim, run, fight, hold her head high, be strong, and be a warrior like her ancestors before her. She would become a strong she-wolf but for now, he only had a little bit of time to enjoy her sweet innocence. She was growing up too fast without him.

“Yeah.” Olivia’s reply was a sigh as she rested her head on his shoulder and leaning into him with her arms wrapped around his waist.

Despite the cold water surrounding them, her body felt good in his arms. Hands caressed over ridges of muscle on his back and slid around to his front. A faint hint of warmth under a pool of coldness.

“I’ll teach you to swim better too.” His voice came out low and gravelly as her hands continued to explore his torso, slowly sliding up to his chest to his broad shoulders.

“Okay,” she whispered as water dribbled down his shoulders from her wet hands.

Warmth spread where her hands roamed against his damp skin. The chill ebbed away from his bones as his hands slid down her back to her ass. A grin spread across his lips as he nuzzled her neck. She wasn’t wearing any panties.

“Are you trying to drive me crazy?”

She shivered as his lips brushed against her neck. “No. If I recall, you grabbed me. And here I am. I haven’t left.”

“Why don’t you?” He teased her flesh with his lips, caressing the curve of her neck and fighting back every fiber of his being from sinking his teeth into her and marking her as his and connecting their souls once and for all.

That would turn her into a werewolf like himself, and he didn’t want to thrust that upon her until she knew what he was and could accept that part of him.

Do it, he told himself. You have to show her the truth.

She moaned, her hands slipping around his neck and coaxing his head up. “Maybe I like it here.”

“Maybe?” He brushed his nose across her jaw.

Despite the chill of the water, he was hard. He pressed himself against her, drawing a gasp from lips that wordlessly begged him for more.

Cheek to cheek, she uttered his name, but he needed more affirmation. “I need you, Olivia. I need you and Chloe in my life. I can’t undo the past, but I need you now and in my future. Whatever happens next, I need you by my side.”

He cupped her cheeks in his palms and pressed his forehead to hers. “Maybe it’s too soon and maybe I’m crazy, but I love you. I love you and I love Chloe, and I always will.”

She pulled his lips down to hers, kissing him fiercely and drawing a growl of pleasure to vibrate from within.

How did he manage to mate with her and not mark her five years ago? How did he manage to half claim her?

Her fingers twisted through the tips of his hair. “Cam…”

Her breathy whisper was cut short as a howl rose up to the sky.

Breaking the kiss, Cameron clutched her tightly to his chest as it rose up and down with each rapid gasp for air. He listened as another howl sounded, closer this time.

Mentally cursing, he looked around for shelter but there were no caverns or crevices for Olivia to hide in. There were plenty of large rocks around them, but they were all near the bank and he didn’t want to risk her being found by a threat within easy grasp. But she couldn’t be out in the open either…

[There’s been a breach at the border! Get out of there!] Alpha Noodin’s command rang in his head, snapping Cameron to attention and pushing Olivia away at arm’s length.

He looked into her startled green eyes. Her heart hammering in her chest. “Olivia, there’s something you should know. Something I wanted to show you and explain but there’s no time.”

“What?” she asked as another howl cried out.

She shivered as he pulled her face to his to kiss her hastily. “I need you to hide. Now. Find a rock and close your eyes and don’t watch. Please. I love you.”

Releasing her, she nodded and turned to do as he asked.

Hurrying to the bank, he pulled himself up over the rocks as barks, yips, and whines resounded from the trees to his right. Paws pounded against the earth toward him.

Cameron promptly shifted and charged toward the intruders. There were two of them. As soon as he lunged forward, he picked up the rogue’s scent—and Sam’s.

Snarling, Cameron lunged at the large gray wolf that broke through the trees that surrounded the clearing. He snapped his jaws at his neck but the rogue jerked back out of reach.

[Cam, stop!] Sam shouted in Cameron’s head as he bound between them and bared his teeth. [He’s my mate!]
