chapter 22

“How long before Stephen gets tired of that one?” A guy I didn’t know smirked to his friend eyeing Sky in a way that I didn’t like.

“I’d hit that.” He laughed.

“Hell yeah.” The other guy responded.

“I’d watch that mouth if I was you.” I said my body aching to throw some hands.

I had been drinking most of the night and I was way past caring if I made trouble.

If either of the guys said one more word, they were going to be losing teeth.

“You tapping that?” One of the guys smirked making me lose the last of my restraint.

My fist shot out quick and fast busting the guys nose blood gushing everywhere.

“Woah their killer.” Jason said coming out of nowhere blocking me from hitting him again.

The guys wasted no time to get the hell out of there much to my dismay.

I balled my hands into fists angry my eyes searching the room for the girl that would be my downfall.

When my eyes landed on hers, she had her head thrown back laughing at something Stephen was saying.

“I have to get some air,” I said moving away from Jason.

I grabbed a shot from a table and downed it not stopping until I hit the door. The breeze was cool and refreshing as it hit my hot skin giving me a short-lived relief.

Never had I felt so conflicted about something like I did about Sky. I knew that she felt something for me I could feel it. But she was loyal to a fault and I didn’t think I could continue on the path that I was on. No matter what I had said in the past. It hurt to much.

“You alright?” Raven said coming to stand next to me.

“I can’t do this anymore,” I said understanding crossing her face.

“It’s killing me.” I said resigned.

“Then don’t.” She said cupping my face in her hands.

“I know this is not how you thought things would turn out, but this is where we are. Just because you love her doesn’t mean you have to wait forever for her. It doesn’t mean that you have to suffer like you are. Let her go.”

She was right and it crushed me more than I thought that it would to walk away without so much as a goodbye.

I didn’t want to see her, talk to her or be anywhere near her anytime soon. I needed to rip her from my life cold turkey. That was the only way that I was going to get through this. I watched from the back window of my uber as Stephen’s massive house disappeared behind me relief spreading through my body.

A let out a quick breath and steadied myself as I stepped out of the car. I was still very drunk, and the hustle and bustle of the busy airport had me reeling.

I made my way inside and headed to the station to pick up my ticket. It didn’t go as smooth as I had hoped my brain just refused to function correctly.

A girl about my age came to my rescue she tapped a few things and my ticket printed out.

“You just made a shitty night a little better for me. Thank you.” I said extending my hand to her. “I’m Trevor.” I said as she placed her hand in mine. “Lucy,” she grinned.

“Where you heading Lucy?” I asked curious.

Before she could answer her mom was calling for her resulting in her saying bye and heading back to her family.

I made my way to my terminal and made sure I had time before I went in search of coffee.

“Coffee black,” I said placing my coffee order.

“Since when do you drink coffee?” Jason said from behind me.

“Since I need to sober up.”

“I’m struggling here.” I laughed because I knew that I was a mess.

“I checked our bags.” He said showing me his ticket.

“Thanks for being here with me.” I said grateful for Jason’s friendship.

I knew better than anyone how hard it had been for him when he was heartbroken over Sky. I hadn’t been half the friend to him as he was being to me.

“Always,” he said placing his hand on my shoulder.

“Your going to get through this but it’s going to hurt like hell.” He said sympathetically.

“Now boarding flight 252.” The lady over the leader speaker blared.

“We better get back before we miss out flight.” Jason said leading the way.

By the time we landed I had already changed my phone number, blocked her on all social media and erased her from my life. I was doing what she had done to Jason and I knew that she would be upset by my choices but also knew that she would understand them and respect them.

“Through the silence know that I will always love you. Always!” I read the text confused.

“Are you drunk? I text back.

Trevor,” I text when he hadn’t text me back.

“Are you okay?” I text looking around the house for him.

Something was happening I just didn’t know what.

All my text to Jason also went unanswered.

I finally found Raven in her room packing.

“Where are Trevor and Jason?” I asked from the doorway.

“They left.” She said a sadness on her face.

“Without saying goodbye.” I asked feeling hurt.

“He couldn’t.” Raven said meeting my eyes.

“Please understand.” She pleaded with me.

“He’s is bad place right now.”

“Because of me.” I choked out already knowing the answer.

“I never meant for this to happen.” I said tears falling from my eyes.

“You okay?” Stephen asked coming up behind me making me jump in surprise.

“No,” I said walking into his arms.

“I think I ’m going to get her bed.” Stephen told Raven as he lifted me into his arms.

The tears were worse when he finally got me to my room. Everything about what was happening was wrong.

“I’m sorry.” I said meeting Stephen’s gaze.

“For what?” He asked sitting next to me on the bed.

“Because I’m a horrible girlfriend.” I said the tears rolling down my face.

“Have you lied to me?”

“Have you cheated on me?”

“Are you keeping secrets from me?”

“You see you couldn’t possibly be a horrible girlfriend.” He said pulling me onto his lap.

“If this is because you have feelings for Trevor, I promise you I don’t care. He said kissing my neck making me tingle.

“Because when you’re here with me in my arms I know that you love me as much as I love you. You have had multiple chances to take things further with Trevor and you didn’t and still haven’t. You already choose between us Sky. Your mine and everyone sees it but you.” He said lifting my face up to look at him.

He was right. I did love him maybe I always had. It was so easy with him.

“Let me hear you say the words I long to hear and put me out of my misery?” He whispered in my ear.

“I love you.” I said meeting his eyes.

“Hold on I forgot to record that.” He said lifting his phone to face me.

“One more time so people don’t call me a liar.” He teased making me smile.

He pointed his finger at me to go and I laughed.

“I love you Stephen.” I said blowing him a kiss.
