Chapter 4

I leaned against the door for a few minutes not believing everything that had just happened. How did I manage to end up with a busted lip and a black eye my first hours back? This was just too crazy, had I made the right choice in coming back early?

I walked to the kitchen and grabbed a bag of peas from the freezer and put it on my swollen eye. I was hoping that it would help it not look so bad. My mom was going to flip out when she saw me. I pulled my phone out and dialed the one person besides Raven that I knew had my back.

“Stephen, I need you, please come. I know its short notice, but I can’t do this alone.” I said sobbing into the phone.

“Calm down for a minute sweetheart. Slow down and tell me what the hell happened? Tell me everything.” He said trying his best to understand me.

“Your obviously upset, just sit tight I’m going to pack a bag and get on a plane. Text me your address. I’ll be there in a few hours.” He said ending the call.

I sat on the couch thinking about how lucky I was to have a friend as great as Stephen. The way we meet was really interesting I thought with a smile.

My first day of school he had been assigned my Tutor, apparently this school was advanced. Anyone who came in from another school had to have tutoring sessions five days a week for a month. When he had walked in I had been beyond surprised. He was super cute, he was tall and was built like he played every sport.

I had frowned thinking that this boy could not seriously be my tutor. Then he had surprised me for a second time that day, he was smart, like really smart. He had been polite and patient, answering any and all questions. He was a great tutor.

He had baffled me. I left that day wondering who this boy really was? It didn’t take long to find out, he was Stephen Delacruz heir to the blue diamond empire. They were famous for their diamonds, they were the best in their trade. He was one of the elite, and to my amazement he played no sports.

The next few sessions had gone well but something seemed to be bothering Stephen.

“Sky, can I ask you something?”

“Sure,” I had answered curious about what he could possibly need to ask me?

“Do you think I’m attractive?” He asked.

I sighed and looked up at him “duh, have you forgotten what you look like? Of course I think your attractive. I’m not blind.” But for the record that doesn’t mean I like you or anything it’s just the truth.” I stated honestly meeting his eyes.

He had smiled, and we had been the best of friends since that day. He liked that I had no interest in dating him. I only wanted his friendship. I listened to his ranting and raving on his love life and I gave him the most honest advice I could. He liked to drag me everywhere, and it drove his girlfriend’s crazy. Which is why I think he did it, crazy boy. We were honest to god friends and nothing more, there had never in all these months been a time where I thought we could be more.

My phone beeped it was a text from Mrs. Clark. Raven was out of surgery. I knew that I had to go back to the hospital even though I was dreading being stuck with those two crazy psycho’s and even worse the two boys that affected me so much.

I went upstairs showered quickly and changed into a summer dress and some sandals. I pulled my wet hair into a braid. I wanted everyone to see that I didn’t need to hide my bruised eye. I had only defended myself. She looked ten times worse than me. I sent Stephen a text letting him know where to meet me. I prayed that he was close.

Everyone was still sitting where I had left them. Carrie had a big pair of sunglasses on making me laugh. Who did she think she was fooling? I decided that it would be best if I sat as far from them as I could. Jason and Trevor were watching my every move and it was making me nervous. After a hour Trevor finally got up and came to sit next to me.

“Sky, I know your upset and you have every right to be.” He said softly.

“Upset? Upset does not even begin to explain what I am. Tell me why I have to be defending myself from my exe’s girlfriend. I have a black eye for a guy that isn’t even mine.” I said standing up.

“Don’t go,” he said grabbing my arm.

“Why do you even care if she stays or not?” Destiny said walking across the room.

“Yeah Trevor, tell your girlfriend here why you care if I stay or not?”

I was not going to make this easy for him, if he wanted to play with my emotions then ok. I was going to make him do it in front of everyone.

Carrie choose that moment to put her two cents in,” Let her go, all she does is rattle other girls boyfriends up.” She spat vehemently.

“Wow, you two are crazy. I’ve literally been here a few hours, whatever problems you had were their already.” I said struggling to keep my voice down.

“Do you seriously need me to give you another ass whopping cause we both know I can.” I said getting in her face.

“Destiny I got some for you too if you want some. You ask your boyfriend what his problem is and keep me out of it.” I said refusing to back down.

These little Chihuahua’s were all bark and no bite. I was not going to let them rattle me. If they thought, they could take me then we would go and find out. I hated people like these girls that thought the world revolved around them. I was here for Raven and I was not about to go anywhere until I saw her.

“What’s happening here Sky?” Stephen said from the doorway making his way to me quickly.

I was shaking with how mad I was.

“Calm down beautiful,” he said pulling me into his arms.

“What the hell happened to your face?” He growled angry.

“She happened,” I said pointing at Carrie.

He pulled me behind him towering over me like a giant. He stood toe to toe with Trevor and I knew this was not going to go well.

“Someone tell me why these two ugly girls” he said looking at Destiny and Carrie” are attacking Sky?”

“Trevor are just going to let him call me ugly? “Destiny said fuming.

Mr. And Mrs. Clark walked through the door turning all our attention to them. She frowned when she saw all of us in a standoff. She looked at my face and frowned. She walked over and with no hesitation told Destiny and Carrie to leave.

“You two have done nothing but start problems with Sky. I know that because I’ve known Sky most of her life and I know that she was more respect for the situation than you two. I thought that perhaps you Carrie had learned your lesson earlier, but it appears I was wrong. As for you Destiny, if you plan on still dating my son then you need to get over whatever crazy notion you have in your head about Sky.”

“Believe me honey. Sky is not going anywhere. She is a huge part of our family. Raven loves her, and so do I. Please don’t bother coming back. Raven won’t want you here after she hears about how you have treated Sky.” She said anger twinkling in her eyes.

“Jason, please take Destiny and Carrie home. Trevor needs to be here for his sister. Sky bring your handsome friend and follow me. Raven is anxious to see you” she said leading Stephen and I down the hall.

I didn’t bother to look at anyone. I grabbed Stephen’s hand and held on for dear life. I loved this boy and I knew that I would always be able to count on him.
