Chapter 13

“Get off!”

I shrieked as I continued to struggle to get her off of me. Ever since Avery and Levi revealed that I found my soul mate, the damn woman won’t get off of me!

“Don’t be mean! My baby found his soul mate; I have the right to know the details!” mom pouted

I sighed and glanced down at my mother. She was beautiful. She had pale blonde hair and striking green eyes. My mother was sweet, charming, and downright devious, and as of right now, she was being unusually clingy.

I guess it was understandable, though. Some vampires never even find their soul mates, and when they did, it tended to be hard to keep them. They either couldn’t handle the secret, refused to be turned, or depending on what kind of vampire you were; was constantly being hunted by your enemies.

“Okay, okay, I’ll tell you about her. Although, I don’t know much.”

I chuckled when my mom squealed and listened to my encounter with Vanessa. Everyone seemed excited for me and that only amped up my own excitement. I couldn’t wait to meet my mate and learn everything I could about her. Moving was turning out to be the best thing we’ve ever done.

Leila and I spent the rest of the night eating junk food and watching Netflix. Leila was currently wrapped up in a blanket snoring. I chuckled when she mumbled something about Channing Tatum in her sleep.

I grabbed the remaining junk food off the bed and headed down to the kitchen to put everything up. I padded my way upstairs and crawled into bed, falling to sleep almost instantly.

When I woke up, half of Leila’s body was over mine, and she had a bit of drool on the side of her mouth. I rolled my eyes at my best friend and tried waking her up.

“Leila, wake up.” I shook her

After a couple of times of doing that I sighed at the unmoving Leila. Okay, well let’s try something different.

“FIRE!” I screamed

Nothing, absolutely nothing. What the hell would she have done if it was a real fire? This was ridiculous. As soon as I thought about giving up an idea popped into my head.

Leila instantly jumped off the bed nearly stumbling.

“Where?!” She exclaimed, absently wiping the drool off of her face.

I shook my head at my crazy best friend. Leila was and probably always will be boy crazy. I smiled. And I don’t think I’d have it any other way. I got dressed and walked downstairs to find Leila eating cereal. I grabbed a bowl and got cinnamon toast crunch.

Mmmh... Cinnamon toast crunch was truly heavenly. Leila glanced at me and mumbled something about me being a bad friend. I giggled she was still grumpy from earlier. But seriously did she really think she was going to wake up to two studs stripping. I snickered. Knowing Leila, that was probably one of her many goals in life.

“Oh come on, Leila. If you stop pouting, we can watch Magic Mike tonight. Leila perked up.

“With buttered popcorn?”

“Yes, with buttered popcorn.” I laughed

This was probably the best weekend I’ve had in a while. It was nice just to relax with my best friend. Honestly, just her being here makes everything better. I couldn’t ask for a better best friend.

Beep. Beep. Beep. I turned to my side. Beep. Beep. Beep. I snuggle deeper into my pillow. Beep.Beep.Beep. Damn it all to hell! Why wouldn’t the beeping stop! I open my eyes to see it was my alarm. I turn it off and close my eyes again. I curse.

“Leila, wake up. We’re going to be late!”

“Leila if your ass isn’t up and moving by the time I get out the shower I’m going to hurt you!”

I snatched some clothes out of my drawer and took a quick shower. I walked out of the bathroom brushing my still wet hair, only to stop dead in my tracks. Un-fucking-believable. She hasn’t even moved!

“Leila! If you’re not ready by the time the guys get here, I’m telling the guys to leave you here; and I’ll tell Rafe about all your embarrassing childhood stories!”

Leila pops off the bed, moving like Speedy Gonzales. I go downstairs and fix us some pepperoni hot pockets to go and grab our backpacks. I hear the car pull up, and before I could even yell Leila’s name, she barrels her way downstairs and into the car. I smirked. Well, that was effective enough. I locked the door and slid into Dylan’s car.

“Why did Leila practically run to the car?” Tony asked

I looked back at Rafe and Leila.

“Well...” I dragged out.

“No reason really; just didn’t want to be late.” Leila squeaked out; talking a mile per minute.

I smiled, and after a few seconds of looking back and forth between Leila and me, the brothers shrugged, and then we were off to school.

The first period ended swiftly. Everyone was talking amongst themselves as our teacher got our lesson ready, and then there was silence. Leila and I turned around to see Kayden walk in looking just as stellar as before. Leila and I rolled our eyes when we saw girls reapplying their lip gloss. I looked back to Kayden and noticed his gaze never left me as he introduced himself. Some of the girls noticed this and sent glares my way. Kayden made his way to me and leaned towards my ear.

“I told you we’d see each other around.” He said and found a seat in the back

I blushed, not sure what to do with everyone’s attention focused on me. Luckily the lesson started quickly after that. Of course, that didn’t stop people from talking.

It was finally lunchtime! I was starving! The next time Leila almost makes us late she’s fixing me a proper breakfast. I was teasing Leila on her ability to sleep like the dead when I bumped into someone. I cursed. This was happening way too often.

“Well someone has a potty mouth.”

I looked up at a smirking Kayden.

“Yup, she’s worse than a sailor,” Leila said

“Hey! I’m not that bad.”

Kayden and Leila laughed

I huffed. I was not that bad!

“Do you want to eat lunch with us?” I asked pointing towards everyone

Kayden glanced at the table. He grimaced and sent me a questioning glance before he shook his head and smiled down at me.

“Nah, I’m going to sit with my family, maybe next time.” He jerked his thumb towards a table in the back

“Okay, I’m holding you to that.” I smiled up at him and made my way towards Dylan.

When Leila and I sat down, everyone looked tense.

“What’s wrong?”

I didn’t think anyone was going to answer me until Sage smiled at me.

“There’s a game on Friday, and your ex has been throwing empty threats at Tony and Rafe. Our family is huge on football, and we don’t take kindly to threats.”

I felt like that wasn’t the only thing bothering them but nodded. I frowned and glanced back at Emmett. So he was threatening people now? Maybe I should talk to him. The idea of him threatening Rafe or Tony didn’t sit well with me either. I guess Dylan knew where my thoughts were heading.

“Hey, don’t worry about it. We’re more than capable of handling that guy.”

I nodded and took a bite of my lasagna. I couldn’t quite shake the feeling that there was more to it than that, but I knew if I needed to know Dylan would tell me.

I was actually really happy I bumped into Vanessa. I didn’t get much of a chance to talk to her the other day. The first day was always the hardest. The girls always fawned all over me, and the guys hated me for it. Honestly, it wasn’t my fault. Vampires prey always feels naturally drawn to them. That and honestly if they wanted to get on my level they’d have to step up their game. Sure that was a cocky thing for me to say, but seriously, half of these guys didn’t know the first thing about pursuing a woman, to begin with. Plus, it wasn’t like I wanted any of their girls anyway. I had Vanessa. It’s my brothers they should be worried about.

Leila and I teased her about having a potty mouth. I laughed when she huffed and pouted.

“Do you want to sit with us?” Vanessa asked

She asked, pointed at a table. I cocked my head to the side. They were werewolves. How did she get involved with werewolves?

“Nah, I’m going to sit with my family, maybe next time,” I said smiling down at her

As soon as I sat down, Avery laughed.

“Aren’t you going to do something about your mate?” Levi asked

“Am I the only one who finds this ironic, and slightly amusing?” Avery added

“For now, I’ll do nothing. There’s no need to make the first move. If they don’t plan on attacking; then neither should we.”

Of course, I was pretty pissed at how close she and that dog were, but I had a feeling if either one of us started something we’d both lose her. I had to remember that she wasn’t aware of werewolves or vampires, or any other supernatural race for that matter. So setting aside the fact that I was a vampire, I still considered Vanessa mine, and I don’t plan on handing her over, to anyone.

I smelled them as soon as they walked in. Vampires. I couldn’t figure out why they would show up now after all this time. I nearly snarled when I saw one of them with Vanessa. I didn’t want any of those leeches near her.

I hurried up and got dressed for gym so I could casually ask Nessie about the leech. I waved Nessie over and smiled when she made her way over to me without hesitation.

“So who was that guy you walked into the lunchroom with?” I asked sitting down on the bleacher

“Oh, that was Kayden. He’s a friend of mine.”

She already considered him a friend? Honestly, just thinking about it irritated the hell out of me but I made sure not to show it. So now I had to play nice. I just hope we can avoid any bloodshed between the two races. That could cause major trouble not only for both families but for the humans who live in town. Maybe I should consider telling Nessie that I’m a werewolf sooner. If she has to be caught in the middle, then she deserves to know what she’s in for. It looks like things won’t be boring for a while.
