Chapter 6

Today was going by so slow and I was dreading going to the rest of my classes. Fourth period had only just started and I really wanted to smash my head into my desk just to ease the boredom. The sub we had for English had a ridiculously monotone voice and it was driving me crazy. I sighed in relief when I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket.

Emmett:

I miss you. Meet me @ your locker.

Vanessa:

OMW :P

I quietly packed up my bag and slipped out of my classroom. I practically threw myself into Emmett’s arms when I saw him.

Emmett chuckled. “I missed you too, baby.”

I stood on my tippy-toes and kissed him.

“So, where will our super intense makeout sesh be held today?”

Emmett smirked. “How does Lancaster’s office sound?”

“Sounds like you want to get benched in your next game.”

Emmett laughed and wrapped his arms around my waist.

“Lancaster is out for the week and the only people who have access to his office are me, Alverez, and Trevor.”

That made sense. Emmett and Dylan had been going head to head for captain since we started high school. Honestly, it’s where the majority of their distaste for each other stemmed from. Emmett pretty much got the team handed down to him by a Senior during Sophmore year. I was pretty sure that it wasn’t a typical arrangement, but Emmett was pretty damn good at football and also happened to be a legacy at our school.

When Junior year came around Dylan tried out for the team and blew everyone away. Lancaster was actually ready to elect Dylan as captain, butI’m pretty sure people would riot if he demoted a Legacy to co-captain. I think the compromise was meant to be for Dylan to take the role of co-captain but he declined and Trevor took the position for himself.

“Lead the way,”

And that’s how the majority of the week went on. Emmett finding a new place each day, me sneaking out of class, and us getting completely lost in each other.

Later that week Trevor and Michael met up with me.

“Do you mind if we talk to you for a second?” Michael asked.

“Sure, what’s up?”

“You’re not going to like what we have to say.”

I sighed. “Hit me.”

“Emmett’s been seeing Bianca,” Trevor said slowly.

I bit my lip as I felt my stomach churn. This is exactly what I wanted to avoid. I had wanted to trust him so badly that I denied what I saw with my own eyes.

I let out a deep breathe. “Honestly, I already knew. I guess I was just hoping that I would be enough”

Michael and Trevor gave me a sad smile before wrapping me up in a hug.

“We’re sorry our best friend is an idiot. You’ll still talk to us, right?”

“Of course! You shouldn’t even be apologizing.”

“Good.”

After we talked some more I went to the bathroom and splashed some water on my face. I needed to settle things with Emmett. Pretending isn’t going to get me anything but heartbreak.

Finally, it came time to tutor Dylan again and I was kind of excited. Besides Spanish and Gym, we didn’t get that much time to hang out due to football practice which kind of sucked. Even though we didn’t get to hang out as much this week we talked a lot whether it was through text or on the phone and I was excited to spend some time with him.

Dylan met me outside of the gym.

“You mind driving me again?”

“Sure, what happened to your car, though?”

“Tony took it.”

“You’re strangely calm about it.”

Dylan shrugged. “I was pissed at first, but Rafe is babysitting Nyla tonight because the rest of us already had plans so I thought I would be nice.”

I smiled as we headed towards my car. When we got to my house we were both starving so I asked Dylan if he wanted me to cook.

“Sure.” He nodded looking around the house.

After I hung my jacket up I headed to the kitchen and start taking ingredients out for some spaghetti.

“Make yourself at home and I’ll get the food ready,” I called out to him.

“Let me help you this time,” Dylan said walking into the kitchen.

“No, it’s okay your my guest. I’m trying to be a good host!” I said trying to push him out of the kitchen.

“I promise not to burn your house down.”

“Okay, Okay only if you promise,” I said teasingly; he laughed and finished helping me find some of the ingredients.

While Dylan mixed the meat with the sauce I turned some music on and ‘My Strange Addiction’ by Billie Eilish came on and I started singing and swayed around the kitchen. Dylan’s eyes watched my every move as I danced around. I started to feel nervous under his intense gaze. Once was done I turned the stove off and told Dylan to get plates and glasses

“What do you want to drink?” Dylan asked

“I’m craving Cherry coke. I’ll go get it. Did you want Coke or something else?”

“I’ll take some coke.”

I was more than happy when we finally dug into our food. I was so hungry.

“This is delicious Nessie!”

“Thanks, it’s just something I picked up from my mother.”

“Do you want to finish our dinner in the living room?” I ask

“Sure,” Dylan replies following me out the dining room.

I turn on the TV and put on Rio. I like this, being able to sit here, talk, and look at TV without awkwardness. I was really glad that we had become friends. It seems so crazy that we didn’t even use to give each other the time of day and now he’s turned into someone that I care deeply for. I finally snapped out of it when I felt Dylan staring at me.

“What?”

“You have some sauce on your face.”

I knew I was blushing when I felt my cheeks heat up.

“I’ll get it,” Dylan said lifting up my chin.

This is when I noticed just how close we were sitting together, and at that moment I couldn’t care less. Dylan slowly brought my face close to his and lick the very edge of my lips, where the sauce was. Damn. Can he not be sexy for like five minutes? He moved hesitantly toward my lips giving me a way out and when I didn’t move he continued until our lips met. I swear I just died and went to heaven. I know I should’ve pushed him away, I know I should have listened to that little voice inside my head that kept screaming what about Emmett, but I couldn’t. It was like I need Dylan with every fiber of my being.

Dylan’s Pov.

I couldn’t help myself from touching her. I’ve never wanted any girl as bad as I want her. When Vanessa kissed me back I was blinded by desire. My wolf was telling me to devour every inch of her body and to make her ours, but I had to tell him to be patient. I definitely didn’t want to scare my mate off. Just as she was about to deepen the kiss the doorbell rang. Awesome. She smiles timidly at me and pecks me one more time before running off to answer the door. When I turn my head to see who’s at the door, my smile immediately disappears and I see Nessie pale. Damn! I forgot she had a boyfriend and it looks like she did too. Well, this should be interesting.

Vanessa’s Pov.

I instantly regretted opening the door. I didn’t know how to explain this to Emmett. I cringed when Emmett’s warm smile was replaced with hatred, and I couldn’t tell if it was for Dylan or me.

“What’s going on?” Emmett asked.

“I was tutoring Dylan,” I said smoothly even though we hadn’t even started yet.

Emmett looked around.

“It doesn’t look like you were studying.” He said, sending a glare Dylan’s way.

“That’s because we just finished an amazing dinner Nessie just prepared for me,” Dylan spoke up flashing me a bright, heart-melting smile and I couldn’t help but give him a smile of my own.

Of course, that just pissed Emmett off even more.

“Well we have to do this again sometime, but I should be getting home, see ya’ at school.” He said, wrapping me up in a hug.

“How are you going to get home?”

“Don’t worry; I’ll call one of my idiot brothers to pick me up.” He said flashing me one more smile before walking out the door

I sighed and sat down on the couch. After a couple of minutes, Emmett came into the living room and plopped down next to me. This wasn’t going to end well. I could literally see our two-year relationship crumbling in front of me.

Emmett’s Pov.

I stooped to a new low. I had slept with Bianca...multiple times. I don’t even know why at this point. She always just found a way to lure me in. I felt like a piece of shit and all I wanted to do is hold Vanessa in my arms. Nessa wasn’t answering my calls or texts. I wasn’t really sure what her deal was but I thought I would surprise her and stop at her house. I knocked on her door and waited to see my baby’face. I couldn’t help but smile when she opened the door. .My smile faded when she opened the door wider. There, sitting on her couch was Dylan Alverez.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“I was teaching Dylan Spanish,” Vanessa said.

I looked around, trying to find a notebook or any type of papers and found nothing.

“It doesn’t look like you were studying to me,” I said, walking into the house. Before she could answer Alverez walked over.

“That’s because we just finished an amazing dinner that Nessie prepared for me,” Dylan said, smiling at Nessa.

Okay, he’s starting to piss me off. “Well we should do this again sometime, but I should be getting home.” He said and hugged her. I’d never wanted to punch someone so much in my life... well there was time... but still!

When he left Vanessa went to sit on the couch. I stood there for a couple of seconds trying to figure out what the hell just happened before I plopped onto the couch next to her.

“Are you cheating on me with Alverez?”

Nessa looked a bit ticked off, but I couldn’t help but ask.

“No!”

“What do you expect me to think when you answer the door flushed, and I see Alverez sitting on your couch!” I yelled.

“He has a first name, you know!”

“Like I care! Oh and another thing, ‘Nessie’! He has a fucking nickname for you?!”

“He’s my friend; friends give each other nicknames.”

She tried to reason with me, but it was too late I was already beyond pissed.

“So what about when he smiled at you, and you turned into a cherry or when he hugged you, and his hands lingered on your waist a little longer than they should’ve!”

“What are you trying to say?” Vanessa demanded her voice slightly rose.

“My point is I don’t want to go out with a whore!” I roared and immediately regretted opening my mouth when I saw her face.

At first, she looked hurt, but then rage took over, and her eyes seemed like they became a shade darker.

“Nessa I’m so-“I tried to apologize, but she cut me off.

“You need to get out of my house!”

“Nessa...”

“Now!”

I looked at her face one more time and felt like a giant asshole when I saw tears falling soundlessly down her face. I stormed out, wondering if our relationship was over.

Vanessa’s Pov

I can’t believe he called me a whore. It’s not like I had planned on kissing Dylan. It just happened. I was upset, but then rage soon began to take over. I told Emmett to This is not how I imagined this year going. I told Emmett to leave. I felt sick to my stomach and I wasn’t up for hearing a bullshit apology. He looked at me one more time before storming out. I texted Leila and told her that I needed her ASAP. A couple of minutes later, Leila was at my house with a tub of ice cream and an overnight bag. I guess I looked like shit because when she looked at my face, she instantly came over to hug me.

“What happened, sweetie?”

And for whatever reason I found her calling me sweetie funny, but my uncontrollable laughter soon turned to full-blown sobs as I began to tell her what happened.

After I told her what happened, I calmed down a bit and waited for Leila’s response.

“I’m so sorry, Nessa. Emmett’s such a dick.” Leila said, and I burst out laughing.

“He wasn’t always a dick, though. I feel like there’s been a shift in our relationship and that scares me. ”

“Well it’s his loss, you’re smokin’ hot! Plus now Dylan can have you all to himself.” Leila said, smirking at me.

“Shut up. We haven’t exactly broken up yet, anyway.” I say, throwing my pillow at her face.

Leila shook her head. “I don’t care how much you love him he can’t just say whatever the hell he wants and then things go back to normal. If you guy’s do end up staying together then you need to sit down and have a serious talk.”

I sighed and nodded my head.

We spent the rest of the night eating ice cream and looking at movies.

“Get up!” Leila screamed in my ear.

“God, if I didn’t love you, you’d be so dead right now Leila,” I mumbled groaning into my pillow.

“But you do love me so get your ass up,” Leila said zipping downstairs.

How the hell does she have so much energy in the morning? I took a shower and got dressed. When I got downstairs, I found Leila in the kitchen eating cereal.

“Oooh, you look hot today..” Leila said approvingly

I laughed. “Thank you, thank you..”

When we got to school, Emmett saw me and went to kiss Bianca. Really? What the hell has gotten into him? I rolled my eyes in disgust and Emmett immediately smirks when he sees me watching them, which pisses me off. If he thinks I’m jealous than he has another thing coming.

“What are you going to do?” Leila asked.

“You’ll see,” I said, walking past Emmett and wrapping my arms around Dylan.

Dylan returned the hug and smiled down at me. “Hey, beautiful.” He said, caressing my cheek.

“Hey wanna walk me to class?” I asked, smiling up at him.

“Of course. Who wouldn’t want to walk beside a beautiful girl like you?” Dylan said, grabbing my hand, causing me to blush.

When we headed to class, I saw Leila’s mouth hanging open and Emmett glaring at Dylan.

Who’s jealous now, asshole!

“Do you wanna get some ice cream after school?”

“Sure,” I said as I sat down in my seat.

I kept trying to pay attention, but the thought of Dylan and me soon took over my mind. I’m not sure what we are to each other anymore. Are we good friends, or are we more than that? I mean he calls me babe and gives me soft, sweet, yet passionate kisses. Hell, I don’t even know if Emmett and I are even still a couple!

I was so surprised when lunch came. I spent most of the day in my own world and barely paid attention in class. When I walked into the lunchroom, I saw Bianca sitting on Emmett’s lap. Oh, I’m so done. Whatever game Emmett’s trying to play he’s going to have to play by himself. Trevor and Michael caught my eye and mouthed sorry. I shook my head and smiled at them; they had no reason to be sorry. It wasn’t their fault Emmett was turning out to be a monumental ass.

“I’m going to take a good guess and say we’re not sitting over there,” Leila said in my ear.

“Definitely not,” I said, grabbing two slices of pizza and a mango madness Snapple.

When I got to Dylan’s table, they weren’t any more chairs, so I was going to go pull up a seat until Dylan grabbed my hand.

“Where are you going?”

“To go grab a chair.” Dylan shook his head and pulled me into his lap.

I giggled when I felt him nip at my ear playfully. I saw Leila blush a deep red when Rafe pulled her into his lap.

“It seems your brother has taken a liking to my friend,” I said to Dylan.

“Yea I noticed. They seem to be enjoying each other.”

I looked at him and bit my lip. This man was almost annoying attractive. I would love to enjoy a pice of him.

Dylan narrowed his eyes at me. “Behave.”

My eyebrows shot up. “What I do?”

“You’re giving me a real dangerous look right now.”

I felt my cheeks heat up and buried my head in his chest. I didn’t realize I was being that obvious.
