Needless to say, this semester is really kicking my butt. I really didn’t expect how much work I need to do for all these classes. On the positive side, my photography class is really getting all my creative juices flowing. That sounded wrong. Sorry, not sorry. But all the other parts of my life are pretty much a mess. I haven’t cleaned my room for ages. I’m surprise I still manage to take a shower everyday. I haven’t been to church in weeks either. Not that I feel really bad about it, but it doesn’t make me feel good either. I don’t know. Maybe this long weekend is gonna help me get some things done. Damn, I completely forgot! My parents rented out this cabin for the weekend. Well, there better be Internet over there or else, I’m doomed.
Dammit! 9:30!! Why do I always sleep through my alarm?! Fuck. I hate myself right now. Well no time for all this right now. I gotta get ready for church!
“Finally! I’m so hungry.” Hanna says as we walk out the church.
“Yeah me too. Where’s mom and dad?” I look around.
“Hold on, I’ll text them.” Hanna takes out her phone.
As we’re standing in front of the church, Father Luke walks by. He greets Hanna. Then turns to me, holds out one hand, and says to Hanna.
“Your sister?” I look at him with confusion. He looks at me with a smile on his face.
“Yeah, um, Emily.” I grab his hand to shake.
“Luke.” He holds my hand a little longer and we look at each other.
“Mom and dad are in the car. Bye, Father Luke!” Hanna waves goodbye as she run to the parking lot.
“Umm, okay. Nice meeting you. Bye.” I let go of his hand and gave him a little wave as I walk away.
That afternoon, we arrive at the cabin. It’s our first time going to a really nice place like this. New appliances and nice interior design. And the lake is only a walk away. Hanna and I call shotgun in the room with the huge bed. Of course, me and her will have to share it.
“No internet!” My dad shouts out as he gets back from the lobby.
“NO!!!” We scream. Hanna and I have never been in such disbelief.
“How am I gonna post our pics on Instagram??!” says Hanna as she hold out her phone.
“Thank god I brought a book with me.” I pull out my Nicholas Sparks from my luggage.
Hanna plops down on the bed. I join her with my book in hand. As I flip through the pages, Luke pops into my head. I’ve been pre-occupied this whole time. I didn’t even get to process what happened over there earlier. I mean, what was that all about? I don’t know. Maybe I’m just weird. Or maybe I need an expert’s advice.
“Hey Hanna, what do you know about Father Luke?” I turn my head to her.
“Hmm…he’s cool. He’s one of the mentors in the Youth group. Yeah, he talks about his experiences and like God, I guess.” She replies to me as she stares at her phone.
“How old is he?” I ask.
“24, I think.”
“Wow, he’s so young. He still has so much life ahead of him. Do you know why he decided to become a priest?”
“Uhm, I don’t know. God? I guess.”
I can’t say I didn’t want to know more about him. But I have other things to worry about right now, like if there’s such thing as Internet smuggling. I don’t know. Help!
