CH 22- DRAGONS

Brody was standing next to his car when Ryker and I raced out of the doors with Brooke on our heels. I was laughing so hard that I didn’t see the person I pretty much ran over as we both collided into the grass. Ryker and Brooke stopped and stared in awe as I looked over to see Angelina face down in the mud. It took everything in me not to laugh. I rose up and offered her a hand.

“Sorry about that. I didn’t see you there. You aren’t hurt are you?”

“Like you care! Just leave me the fuck alone!” With that furious outburst she got to her feet slowly, and wiped the mud off of her face. I took notice that she was not moving quite normally. She seemed stiff and sore and I saw a large bruise on her arm that she quickly covered up with her sleeve.

“Hey Angelina I-”

“Just leave me alone!” I noticed the dark circles around her eyes and the way she reared back when I went to reach for her gave me pause. I watched as she limped to her car.

Brody approached sliding his arm around my waist with a grin on his face. “What was that about?”

I shook my head. “It was an accident. I apologized but I guess she really hates me. I get the feeling that there was more to it than that though.” I watched as the girl drove off campus.

“Let’s go Ryker.” Brooke called. Ryker turned and swatted her on the rump making her giggle and slung his arm around her.

Brody and I climbed into the car and I turned the radio on while he was driving. I heard the beginning of one of my favorite songs and jumped happily in my seat. Soon I hear Brody’s husky chuckle as he listens to my rowdy singing as I lose myself in the lyrics of the song.

Do you feel the same when I’m away from you?

Do you know the line that I’d walk for you?

We could turn around and we could give it up

But we’ll take what comes, take what comes

Oh, the storm is raging against us now

If you’re afraid of falling then don’t look down

But we took the step, oh, we took the leap

And we’ll take what comes, take what comes

I felt his eyes on me as I sing. He was listening to the words and he smiled softly. I saw him turning off of the paved road and onto a dirt road but I was too caught up in the song to say anything yet.

Feel the wind in your hair

Feel the rush way up here

We’re walking the wire, love

We’re walking the wire, love

We couldn’t be higher, up

We’re walking the wire, wire, wire

There’s nights we had to just walk away

And there’s tears we’ll cry but those tears will fade

It’s a price you pay when it comes to love

And we’ll take what comes, take what comes

Feel the wind in your hair

Feel the rush way up here

We’re walking the wire, love

We’re walking the wire, love

We couldn’t be higher, up

We’re walking the wire, wire, wire

So look out down below

Look out down below

Look out down below

Walking the wire, wire, wire

So look out down below

I felt his arms scoot me across the seat closer to him and I continued singing the song to him. I was still smiling as he kissed me while I was belting out the chorus. It was distracting to say the least and I quickly forgot about the song.

Oh, I’ll take your hand when thunder roars

And I’ll hold you close, I’ll stay the course

I promise you from up above

That we’ll take what comes, take what comes

Love

We’re walking the wire, love

We’re walking the wire, love

We couldn’t be higher, up

We’re walking the wire, wire, wire

So look out down below

Look out down below

Look out down below

Walking the wire, wire, wire

So look out down below

We’re walking the wire

We’re walking the wire

We’re walking the wire, wire, wire

I could hear the song fading out in the background as Brody’s kisses quickly made me melt. He held me to his chest and his erratic breathing tickled my ear.

“I think I like that song. I need to talk to you about something serious though.”

There was something in the tone of his voice that made me pull back suspiciously. ”What’s wrong?” He caught a stray few hairs and pushed them behind my ear and took a deep breath.

“That rogue that showed up last week. Jaxon took him to their cells and we questioned him this morning. It took everything I had in me to keep my wolf from killing him.”

My eyes widened and I started to zone out a little as my tortured memories ran forward. I began shaking. I struggled to keep my wolf at bay but I pushed my wolf down. I opened the door and slid out of the car. I was outraged that they were still affecting me like this. I wanted to take that power back but I wasn’t sure how to do it. Sliding down the side of the car until I was sitting on the grass, I leaned against it with my eyes closed.

“Baby, I told Jaxon that you should get to kill him if you want to. It might give you some closure or at least a little satisfaction from it. It’s up to you though.” I nodded at his thoughtfulness. “You should see Jaxon’s method of giving them incentive to talk. It’s, for lack of a better description, it’s freaking fantastic!”

“Really? What is it?” He had my interest piqued. The rumble of his laughter in his chest made me smile.

The look on his face was priceless. “He uses a freaking electric cattle prod! He was adjusting it higher and higher and that alone was freaking the fucker out!”

“I could picture Jaxon doing something like that. I bet it was his idea to get one too.” I thought about it for a moment and then nodded. “Yeah, I want to do the honors. He will rue the day he messed with me.”

Brody pulled me to my feet and into his arms. He kissed up and down my neck as he held me in his arms.

“There is something I wanted to talk to you about too.” He was getting more distracted and I pulled back a little to get his attention again. He grinned at me and shook his head a blush on his cheeks.

“What is it baby?”

“I want to find my mom. I want to go to the city and find out what happened to her.”

The look on his face couldn’t have been more shocked. He was quiet for a moment. “I’m not sure that is a good idea babe. Either way you end up with an answer that hurts you. Either she is dead or she isn’t and just left you for all of this time. I don’t see a good ending there for you. I don’t think we should go there. Some things are better left unknown.”

I understood his point and he wasn’t wrong. I would be upset with either of those outcomes. I nodded. I was still thinking that I’d rather know. I would give it some time and see how I felt a little later.

“Let’s go to Silver Moon. I have a rogue to torture and kill.” Brody shook his head with a sad smile on his face and kissed my cheek as he put me back into the car.
