Chapter One – Substitute Bride

Dua’s pov:

I am in right plane now going towards my new destination. I am about to see the women who gave me birth. The one who brought me up is my aunt(Dad’s Sister)whom I have called Ammi my entire life..

It’s little confusing right..?

Let me tell you from the start. My father is a business man and he fell in love with a model. When my mom got pregnant she was not ready for it. My dad somehow convinced her not to abort as she was having twins. She gave birth to us but she was not ready to take the responsibility. That’s when my Ammi comes into picture. She was a widow with no children so she suggested that she will adopt one baby. My dad was not happy with it but reluctantl agreed. My Ammi took me with her. My real family stays in India but I stay in America. I never saw my twin or my mother in real..only in pictures but my father use to visit me once a year.

Everything was going fine. I got to know that my sister is getting married in a week but no one invited me. No one knows about my existance. For the world my twin Sila is the only child of my parents and they want to keep it that way because if anyone see me then they will definately recognize me because we look alike. we are identical twins. The only difference is the eye colour. She has green eyes like mother while I have brown eyes like father. That’s what made mom to choose to keep her and give me to Ammi.

Yesterday Ammi died with heart attack. I have no one to take care of me so Dad is taking me with him after Ammi’s last rituals. I am going to see my family in real for the first time in 18 years of my life.

When our flight landed I was very nervous. How will I face them? How they will react? How I will react? fortunately or unfortunately when we went home no one was there to welcome me. Dad showed me my room and after freshening up. I took a nap as I was very tired.

when maid called me for dinner. I went down. I was very excited to meet mom and my sister but their reaction on my arrival was very cold. They didn’t even smile at me.

Mom said,“Oh..you are up. Sit”

I sat beside Dad and started eating when Mom said,“Till when is she staying here?”

Dad said,“What do you mean by that? This is her house. She is going to stay with us.”

Mom was shocked and said,“Have you lost your mind? What will we tell to the relatives who will be here in two days. No one knows about her. ”

Dad said,“How can she live alone there? She need us. She is our responsibility.”

Mom said,“I don’t know about all this. I don’t want world to know about her. Do as you wish but keep that in mind.”

With this she left and my twin followed her. I never expected such welcome even in my dream.

Dad said,“Are you okay? Don’t mind their words. This is your house.”

I don’t feel like that.

I said,“I think it will be better if I shift to flat.”

Dad was about say something but I interuppted him and said,“Please Dad. I am first time asking something from you. please”

He sighed and said,“Do as you wish. Anyway no one listens to me.”

I said,“I love you” and hugged him.

He said,“I love you too beta.”

Next day I shifted to near by flat which was at 30 mins distance from my parents place. I kind of like it here because there is no unwanted feeling.

In two days Sila is getting married. I want to attend her wedding but I am not allowed. I have seen her groom pic in magazine. He looks serious but Very handsome. There is not a single picture in which he is smiling. Boring..I don’t like such type of people. I want my husband to be jovial and funloving not serious and boring. Anyway Definately I am going to do love marraige..Arrange is not my type. If you ask me honestly then I don’t trust my parents choice.

Finally the day of Sila’s marraige arrived but what shocked me was instead of going to wedding hall my mom came to visit me and the first sentence she told me almost gave me heart attack..

She said,“you have to get married in place of Sila..”

I was shocked..Is it a Joke? I was stunned at my place.

She said,“There is no time quickly get ready wear this dress. I brought everything jewellary and make up.”

I said,“but I- why should I marry? I don’t even know him.”

She said,“Sila ran away. Full media is there. It will be very shameful for us if this marriage didn’t happen. This marraige is very important for our financial growth so don’t waste my time. It just matter of few days. Once we find Sila you can go back to your life.”

I was shocked..Where I got my self into..?

I said,“but I don’t want to do this..”

She said, “Don’t you care about us? We will become laughing stock in this world. you have to marry him. Don’t worry it just matter of few days. Do this for your parents. Please I request you.”

She was about fold her hands but I caught hold of them and said,“I will do it.”

She smiled and said,“quickly get ready.”

I got ready and she said,“Place this lens as well.”

Once I placed them she said,“you look exactly like Sila. No one will doubt you.”

We reached the hall. I was very nervous. What my life has come to.?

I am sitting in my bridal room when Qazi came to me and asked,” Do you Sila Zafar daughter of Umar Zafar take Aarib Sheikh son of Zunaid Sheikh as your husband?”

I said “yes” three times but this marraige is not vaild because I said yes to the name of Sila and Aarib accepted Sila as his wife not me but to the world this is valid marraige. Aarib and Sila are married couple.

Till when I have to live this fake relation with a non Mehram saving my dignity and self respect.
