CHAPTER 7: WEDDING VOWS
“Oh! Yes Reid! Right there! Ah!” The girl in the third room across mine screamed at the top of her lungs.
It was a shame that even in this huge mansion, these walls were so thin.
I was hit with nausea at her words and their moans. Covering my head with a pillow, I groaned.
After pulling off that incident in my room, I couldn’t bear to be in there and quickly shifted into the furthest room in the hallway but still their voices were as prominent as ever.
I put on my headphones and blasted The Fray to bring me some relief.
I didn’t realize when I dozed off but next thing I saw as soon as I opened my eyes took my breath away.
And definitely not in a good way.
Reid stood in front of me pushing his hand through his hair, with a towel wrapped around his waist, talking loudly on his phone. He seemed agitated and yelled at the person on the line.
Tiny water droplets fell down his hair, slowly sliding down his well-defined muscular back and onto his towel but my gaze fixed on something else on his back as he paced back and forth in my room.
He had nail scratches on his back. My mouth twitched with disgust as I recalled the girl last night going nuts.
He ended the call with a frown on his face and I decided to speak up.
“What are you doing here?” I asked after clearing my throat.
“You are late for the wedding. I was here to wake you up before you made a fool out of yourself.” He said, slightly frowning at me as if my tardiness bothered him deeply.
I narrowed my eyes at him, “But why are you..uh... half naked?”
“Because I have nothing to be ashamed of. And I don’t understand how that bothers you. This is-”
“Your house. I know.” I rolled my eyes at him. Getting a sensible answer out of him seemed impossible.
He appeared to be a little taken aback as he heard me command him and raised a questioning eyebrow at me.
“I have to get ready.” I said as I got out of bed.
"Well, alright", He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly. He left the room and I looked at the time and let out a gasp. I really was late. I just had an hour till the wedding and I was not even by my mother’s side right now.
After showering and trying to make myself look presentable and putting an effort into my looks for once, I rushed outside to see Reid sitting in the living room and talking furiously on his phone. He seemed to be always on his phone when he was not in his office.
He looked gorgeous as ever and the tux made it all better but I was never going to admit that out loud.
Clearing my throat, I stood in front of him and he looked up at me.
He suddenly stopped speaking as he scanned me up and down, making me feel slightly naked.
“I’ll meet with you later tonight, I gotta go. Make sure to notify Mr. Walter and tell him this is his only chance or he looses the deal.” He ended the call I got up.
“You’re wearing that?” He said, once again giving me a once over.
I looked down at my long blue dress. I thought it was pretty elegant and didn’t see a problem with it but the frown on his face made me question my decision for a second. “What’s wrong with my dress?” I said defensively.
“Nothing. Absolutely nothing.” He turned around walking outside the house and I followed him to his car.
“Mom...” I trailed off seeing her gorgeous self in the charming and elegant full length beige colored dress hugging her figure properly and making her look ten years younger.
“Mom, you look beautiful.” I complimented her as she smiled from ear to ear.
She quickly embraced me in her arms. “Thank you sweetie.” She kissed my cheek.
“That blue looks excellent on you.” She complimented me as she scanned my dress.
“Thank you, mom.”
She then turned around and sat down. “Lizzie... I am a little nervous. Is this a good idea? I mean, after your father- I don’t know whether I am doing right or not.”
I grabbed hold of her hand as I stood behind her, giving it a squeeze. “Calm down mom, everything is going to be fine. Your and Henry’s love for each other is true. He is a good man.”
“That I know but I am scared about what people will think, this is my second marriage-”
“A few days ago, you told me that you wanted to do whatever brought you happiness. Henry does, so why are you caring about what people think now?”
She nodded her head and smiled up at me.
It was time.
I followed my little cousin with a bouquet in my hand as the soft instrumental music played. As soon as I approached the front row of seats, my mother and Reid walked down the aisle arm in arm.
In no time, my mother was standing in front of Henry and they both were reciting their vows.
My eyes fell on Reid who already has his gaze set on me and was burning holes through me.
His expression was blank but his eyes looked furious. I could almost see fire trying to burn me in his eyes.
As soon as our parents said their “I do’s”, he sucked in a breath, and clenched his fists in his pockets, my eyes following every action of his.
I looked away, to see mom and Henry share a little but passionate kiss and soon after, everyone was eating outside.
I politely smiled and talked to everyone who came up to me alongside Becca who looked gorgeous in a simple dress but my eyes were automatically looking for a person who was nowhere to be seen.
He was already gone.
