I was afraid to leave Josie with mom and dad when I had to leave for college. I'm going to University of Florida or UF to study biology. I'm super excited to finally move out of the house and live my life, but I still worry about my little sister. I finish packing and listen to mom and dad screaming at each other again. I sigh and go to the living room where I find Josie doing her homework. She looks up at me and smiles.
"You're going to have so much fun!" She exclaims.
"I'll only be and hour and a half away if you need anything."
"I'll be fine."
"I know but if they keep fighting..." I trail off as mom comes into the room smiling and pretending that nothings wrong.
"Oh my baby's all grown up." She cries.
I roll my eyes. "Mom please don't be so dramatic."
She swats my arm and pulls me into a hug. "I'm going to miss you so much."
I lean into her and whisper in her ear. "You still have Josie to take care of. Try to do a good job."
She looks at me with hurt in her eyes. "I am not a horrible mother Lucas."
"No mom, but you and dad have been so busy fighting that I'm the one who takes care of her."
"She's not a child anymore."
"Yes she is."
She rolls her eyes at me and scoffs. "She's seventeen for god's sake and perfectly capable of taking care of herself."
"Come on Stacy, let the boy leave." Dad says. Mom lets go of me and glares at him. Josie hugs me and I scoop her up in my arms, spinning her around and making her squeal. Dad glares at us.
"Put her down Lucas! She's giving me a headache."
"Oh come on dad, lighten up."
"I never wanted kids." He grumbles. I glare at him and squeeze Josie.
"I'll see you on Saturday, right sis?"
"Of course." She beams. "I can't wait to see where you're going to be living and studying at."
I smile at her and kiss her cheek. "Love you."
"Love you too." She smiles. I wave to mom and dad and leave for college.
