Chapter 24 - Manic

“Cherry, what’s wrong!” The concern in Reece’s voice causes me to look in her direction.

My chest constricts, struck from the penetration of anxiety as I point to the shadow in the corner and look back. “Do you see that?” My voice comes out shaky, unstable from the rising hyperventilation that threatens all reasoning.

I hear Reece’s shoes shuffle a few steps towards my direction. “What? What is it?”

“I’m not-”

Suddenly the lights go off completely and a high pitch scream erupts from both Reece and I. Tumbling back I grab onto the head of the seat behind me.

“Cherry! Was that you?”

“It’s not me!” I yell back and turn to hop over the seat and into the fourth row. The adrenaline is already beginning with the way my body is automatically responding. “Turn on the lights!”

“I’m going! I’m going!” It’s pitch black and all I can hear is Reece trying to get the settings to work. “Cherry, what’s happening?” Her breaths are becoming audible like mine.

The sound of something heavy hitting against the wall has both me and Reece screaming again, but I don’t let that stop me. All I can do is continue up the rows and make it up the aisle where reece is at.

“Cherry please! Is someone here?” It sounds like she’s on the verge of tears but my voice fails to explain what I don’t understand either.

“Dad!” I yell into the darkness. “Levii!” There’s no doubt they can hear us from the third level but I have to try.

Another sound rings off into the darkness and Reece’s cries of fear immediately counters the action.

The control over my breaths are failing as I put one foot in front of the other with hot tears building on my waterline. “Reece! Are you up here?” My hand reaches out to touch whatever’s in front of me for guidance.

“I’m here. I’m right here!” Her hand finds my left shoulder as she pulls me over one of the seats of the top row. “Nothing is working, what’s going on?”

“I don’t know. Let’s just get out of here.” Grabbing her hand we try to make it down the staircase without falling but upon hearing footsteps shuffling at the bottom we stop and that’s when Reece lets out a loud scream that has me flinching away.

“What the fuck is happening here?” Her screams come to an end when a voice cuts in and the main door opens. Light shines through from the hall and assuming it’s my father’s security I think it’s safe to make a run towards him.

With the light pouring inside we’re able to see the end of the staircase. There’s no one there, but I’m not sticking around for someone to show up.

Pulling Reece down the staircase with me I make my way towards the door and barrel into whoever is standing there. “Ahh, why the hell would you do that,” he says as I find my footing to stabilize myself.

But looking up, I realize it’s no one I know.

“Wait..who-who are you?” Looking back and forth from the room and to the man who I’m shielding myself with. I notice that he’s wearing arm sleeve and is gently rubbing his chest. He seems to be about my age and has a natural boyish charm that reminds me a bit of Alessio.

“My name is Fionn, and please, don’t do that again. I’m not even supposed to be up and walking.”
