Chapter 11

Unknown's POV,

I waited in the waiting room of the hospital for what seemed like days. I needed to make sure the girl was okay. The doctors had asked me all kinds of questions that I just couldn't answer. The car had blown up with everything she had inside. There was no identification to tell any of us who she was. I told the police the whole story of everything I had seen. Eight hours had gone by when the doctor finally came in to the room. I was the only one there. "Mr. Harris, you came in with the Jane Doe? The car accident?" He asked me.

"Yes, doctor I did. How is she doing?" I asked him.

"Not very well, I'm sorry to say. We lost her twice on the operating table. Her body is badly broken and she took a bad hit to the head. I'm afraid to say, she has fallen into a coma and her heartbeat is very slow. The next twenty four hours are extremely critical." He said to me. This didn't sound good and I felt like she probably wouldn't make it through the night.

"Can I see her?" I asked and the doctor nodded his head at me. I followed him up to the ICU. He took me to a room at the end of the hall.

"Since we don't know who she is and there is no insurance to go after, we can't keep her like this for long." The doctor told me.

"Yeah well, if she makes it through the night. Then I will cover her cost." I said. I didn't even think as the words left my mouth. I didn't want to upset the angle that watches over her. Because if she makes it through the night, she is definitely special. The doctor nodded at me and left the room. "I wish I could tell you that you looked good sweetheart, but you look rough." I said to her, as I walked over to the side of her bed. She was hooked up to all kinds of different machines. All of them were keeping her alive at the moment. She was covered in bandages and her poor little body was black and blue. Her arm was in a cast and so was one of her legs. Her face and head looked worse. I don't even know what she truly looks like. Her face is so beat up, she is unrecognizable.

Her head injury caused them to shave the side of her head. She had the longest blond hair and it was beautiful. "I wish I knew your name. That way I could at least talk to you properly. Maybe I'll give you a name myself for now until you wake up." I continued to look at her and try to come up with something pretty to call her. She is a woman after all. I wouldn't want to call her something she won't like. "Lily, you look like maybe a Lily. Lily is a very pretty name." I said to her. I took a deep breath and found a chair and sat next to her. It was very late and I had been awake now for almost twenty four hours. I leaned back and fell asleep to the sound of her heartbeat.

Two months later...

Chloe's POV aka Lily,

I could hear voices all around me, but I couldn't open my eyes. I also felt a hand holding onto mine. Come on open your eyes. I said to myself. The next thing I knew I was opening my eyes. I looked around the room and realized I was in a hospital. At the foot of my bed stood two men. They were lost in conversation. One I could tell was a doctor and the other I didn't recognize. He was tall with shoulder length hair and he was beautiful looking. Strong and very manly. All of a sudden all I could think about was water. I needed a drink of water. My throat felt dry and sore. I tried to sit myself up, but learned real fast that wasn't happening. My stirring around must have gotten their attention. Next thing I knew they were both looking at me. The doctor came over to my side and started to take a look at me. "Water?" I said. The other man was at my other side. I looked over at him. "Water?" I said. He looked to the doctor.

"Can I give her water doc?" He said. The doctor nodded at him. He quickly poured some water and helped me drink some. It was good and helped me a lot.

"How are you feeling?" The doctor asked me. I cleared my throat.

"Tired, I feel very tired and sore." I said. He smiled at me.

"That's to be expected." He said.

"What's going on?" I asked. The doctor looked over at the other man.

"I'm going to go order her some test. I'll be back shortly. Why don't you talk with her some. Help her through this." The doctor said. The man nodded at him and the doctor left the room. I turned to the man as he took a seat next to me.

"Who are you?" I asked him. He smiled at me. Wow, he was really a sight to see.

"My name is Cooper Harris, I was there when you had your accident. I pulled you from the car and saved you." He said. I was trying really hard to understand what he was telling me.

"I was in an accident?" I asked. He nodded at me.

"Yes, it was a bad car accident and you have been in a coma for two months. I've been here with you ever since." He said.

"Are you my husband?" I asked him. He smiled and then frowned at the same time.

"Do you know your name?" He asked me. I stayed still trying to remember who I was, but I couldn't. I realized I had no idea.

"I, I don't know." I said.

"Shit." He said.

"What's wrong? How come I don't know who I am?" I asked, starting to panic.

"Hold on sweetheart, let me get the doctor." He said and left the room. I felt my heart beating fast and I looked around, trying to recognize something. I couldn't move around to much. I realized my arm and one of my legs was in a cast. I could feel the sting of tears in my eyes. The doctor came in and walked over to my side.

"Can you tell me anything about yourself?" The doctor asked me. I thought and thought about it.

"I don't remember anything. What's wrong with me?" I said full on crying now.

"Relax Lily, we're going to figure this out." Cooper said, holding onto my hand.

"Lily? Why did you call me that?" I asked him.

"Because none of us know who you are. I needed to give you a name." He said. It kind of calmed me down. At least I wasn't without a name. I said to myself.

"Amnesia is not uncommon for a head injury like she received. This could be temporary or last a life time. We won't know until we run more test. In the mean time Lily, this man has been by your side. You can trust him." The doctor told me. I tried to relax more. Cooper smiled at me.

"Thank you." I said to him.

"For what sweetheart?" He said.

"Taking care of me." I said. He smiled, boy he had a nice smile. It made his whole face light up. I smiled back at him. "I must look like hell." I said, realizing I don't even know what I look like. "The name Lily is very pretty." I said.

"Oh thank god, I was worried when I gave you that name that you wouldn't like it. We had to call you something. Jane Doe just didn't fit you." He said.

"I wonder if anyone is looking for me?" I asked.

"I don't know sweetheart, but the cops have been trying to find out any info on you they can. I made sure of it. The bigger problem is someone did this to you. You were run off the road. I couldn't see the driver of the car, but I did see the whole thing." He said. I started to panic again. I took a deep breath.

"I wonder what I did to upset someone so much." I said. Cooper just shook his head.

"We don't know that you did anything Lily, this could have been just some crazy person for all we know." Cooper said. Later on I was taking out of my room and had all kinds of test done on me. By the time I was brought back to my room, I felt like a turkey that had been tortured all day long. I was hungry and tired. When I got back to my room, Cooper was still there. I smiled at him when they brought me in. He was the only person I recognized. I mean not that I know him, but with all the new faces I saw today, at least I kind of knew his.

I laid there in the bed trying my hardest to eat my dinner. I was having a bit of a hard time. Cooper came over and took my spoon from me. "Let me help you." He said. I smiled at him as he fed me like a child. "What's on your mind sweetheart?" He asked me.

"I don't even know where to start. I wish I knew something, but I just can't." I said.

"Don't worry yourself about that now. You'll remember you just need to give yourself time."

"But what if I don't? Where will I go when I'm all better?" I said, suddenly worried that I'd be on the street.

"I'll bring you home with me. I won't let you be alone. I promise." He said.

"Why do you care so much. That you would do something like that for me. I couldn't disrupt your life like that. I'm sure your family wouldn't be to happy about that." I said. He sat back and just smiled at me. "What?" I said smiling back at him. He just shook his head.

"First of all, I live alone. I don't have much family and the family I do have live very far away. It amazes me how sweet and caring you are. Here you are in a hospital with no memory of who you are and your concerned about me. You are something special sweetheart." He said.

I just laid back and smiled. I wasn't hungry anymore. I just wanted to sleep. I closed my eyes and felt his hand go into mine, it gave me some peace as I fell asleep. My dreams were full of faces I didn't recognize. I kept running into people who were calling out my name, but I couldn't hear them. I didn't know them and I kept yelling at them to speak up. I woke up in a sweat and I guess I was yelling out. Cooper was at my side trying to calm me. Once I realized it was him, I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. "I'm sorry." I said.

"Don't be sorry, what were you dreaming about?" He asked me. The truth was I really didn't know how to explain what I was dreaming.

"I don't know." Was all I could say. It was to crazy to put into words.

Over the next month, I started to get stronger. Cooper was with me all the time. He only left a couple of times. He would leave to go home and take care of a couple of things and then be back. I still had no idea who I was, but I came to terms with being Lily. Cooper wasn't my husband, but on paperwork, I was Lily Harris. He insisted that it be that way for now. I was very grateful for Cooper. Besides he was my hero. I owed him my life.
