Chapter 17

Hunters POV,

4 months earlier...

"Just sign the damn papers Tracy!" I said, as I stood there completely annoyed.

"I just don't understand why you don't want to try and work this out Hunter?" She said.

"How many times do we have to go though this? I don't love you. Why do you want to be with someone who don't love you?" I asked her once again. She stood there with tears in her eyes. At first when this process started. I thought for sure she was only after the money. Then come to find out she had no rights to my inheritance by law. My lawyer did the paper work up and the judge signed it off and Tracy and I will share rights to Tim. Because of that there will be no money exchanged between Tracy and myself. It was all working out perfectly. With the exception of Tracy not signing the papers yet. She had six months to sign or contest. There wasn't anything for her to contest except my shop.

My lawyers told me that she can try, but more then likely she will lose. I've made her perfectly aware of the situation, but all she keeps trying to do is get me back. In the time we have spent apart and I've been living here at my shop. Not once was she trying to get me back, I mean every once in a while she would try to sleep with me, but other then that she mostly stayed away. Ever since Chloe went missing she has been after me. I've made myself very clear on how I fell about her and it doesn't seem to matter.

"I'm tired of seeing your tears Tracy. Sign the damn papers!" I spit out.

"She is never coming back Hunter, never!" She shouted.

"You don't know what your talking about." I spit back at her.

"Her mother is giving er a funeral and memorial service. She has excepted it. Why can't you?" She said. I just stood there and looked at her.

"Get your shit and get out!" I yelled.

"Whatever Hunter, I hope you learn to get over her because she ain't coming back to you. I'm the one who is here I made sure of that." She spit out. What the hell did that mean? I said to myself. She grabbed her bag and took off. Why would she say something like that? What as she trying to tell me? That she was keeping herself in my life? She wasn't wrong about what Chloe's mother was doing. I wouldn't say that Chloe's mother was giving up hope, but she just thought it was time to say good bye. I don't agree, but I can't stop her. There's been nothing new. It's just like Chloe has disappeared off the face of the earth. We don't hear from Keven anymore and Chloe's business was left tot her mother. Her mother just decided to close it down.

The only thing that keeps me going everyday is my son. I couldn't let myself fall apart when I know he needs me. I still make sure to keep up whatever I can do to find Chloe. I did get a call that someone thought they saw her in a near by town, but the picture that was sent to me was of a woman sitting in a truck with short hair and I couldn't see her face. I thanked the woman but I didn't think it was her. I did however spend a lot of time in that area. Just trying to make sure that it really wasn't her, but I never saw that truck again and I was there for a week.

"Hello?" I heard a voice coming from the opening of my shop. I leaned my head out the door to the left. There was a blond woman standing at the opening.

"Can I help you?" I called out. She looked over at me with these big beautiful brown eyes.

"Yeah, I'm sorry to bother you sir, but my car broke down outside of town. I got a taxi here. Can you help me?" She asked. I smiled at her and grabbed a tee shirt. I met her outside. She was very beautiful and her face was full of cute freckles.

"Hello I'm Hunter White. I own this shop. Were going to have to tow your car back here. Do you know how far out you are?" I asked her. She smiled at me and took a look at me up and down. It made me smile.

"I don't think its to far from here. Its just out on the freeway. I'm Josephine Nickles, but everyone calls me Joey." She said. I took a deep breath.

"Okay, we will find it. Follow me the tow truck is around back." She followed me tot he tow truck and I opened the door for her. I got in and started to head out to the freeway. "So tell me what happened?" I asked her.

"I'm not really sure. She started to make this banging sound and then she just stopped running." She said.

"That don't sound very good. Where were you headed?" I asked her.

"Here actually, I just moved into town and took the veterinarian job." She said.

"Oh okay, so your going to be working with Mrs. Catalini?" I said. She nodded at me. "You'll like her she is a very nice lady. I've known her all my life." I said. Her car wasn't very far, only about twenty minutes out. She stood next me while I got her car up on the tow truck.

"Have you always worked on car?" She asked me.

"Pretty much, I was going to go to college but things changed." I said.

"Yeah I can understand that." She said. We pulled up in front of my garage and we both got out of the truck. I walked into my office and grabbed the paper work. I walked back out to her.

"Here fill this out and make sure you leave your number." I said and she smiled.

"If I leave my number are you going to call me?" She asked me. I cocked my head at her.

"Well yeah, its going to take some time to figure out whats going on with your car. Then I'm going to have to call you and let you know what needs to be done." I said smiling.

"Of course." She said looking back at the paper work and blushing.

"Unless you want me to call you for another reason?" I asked. She looked back up at me fast. Her face was a cute shade of red.

"I'm sorry,I didn't mean." She stopped.

"Its okay Joey. I'd love to take you out sometime. I mean once you have settled in of course." I said smiling. She smiled back at me.

"I'd like that Hunter." She said.

"I'll give you a ride back to your place, or?" I said.

"Yes, please, that would be wonderful." She said. Joey had herself a nice little apartment close to the clinic. I dropped her off and said good bye. I promised her I'd get her car taken care of fast. After i drove off. I felt a sting of pain in my heart. I felt like I was doing something wrong. Chloe wouldn't leave my mind. I took a deep breath and headed back to the shop. Wouldn't you know it, but Tracy was waiting outside for me. I just shook my head parked my car and got out. I started to walk right passed her.

"What do you want Tracy?" I asked her.

"Here." She said and shoved some papers at me. I looked down at them and it was the divorce papers. She had them all signed and ready to go. I couldn't help the smile that spread across my face. I looked up at her and saw her pain.

"I'm sorry Tracy, but I never meant to hurt you." I said. I pulled her into my arms and gave her a hug.

"Can I ask you something?" She said and I nodded at her. "If Chloe had never came back here. Would you still have giving up on us?" She asked me.

"Yes Tracy, I would of. I had already giving up before she came here." I said. she took a big breath.

"That's what I thought." She said.

"Thank you Tracy, now we can both move on with our live's." I said. She smiled at me and waved as she got in her car and left. For the next hour or so I worked on Joeys car. It needed a lot of work considering it was very old and run down. I gave her a call and gave her a run down on what needed to be done and how much it was going to cost. She agreed and I let her know when she could pick up her car.

The next day I went out and looked at a house I had my eye on for a while. It was sort of my Chloe's mothers house. I knew how Chloe felt about living by the ocean. I know that sounded dumb, but it was where I wanted to be. I met the realtor there early in the morning. The house was pretty large. With three bedrooms and a den. I loved all the dark wood and how clean it was. The house was sort of on the side of a cliff and there was stairs that you took down to the ocean. The view from the living room was spectacular. I knew this was my new home. I signed all the paper work and took a deep breath. I was happy to be moving out of the shop. This place was perfect for me. I was starting to feel like it was time for me to move on completely move on. I gave my mothers home to Tracy and Tim. I needed to let go of a lot of things in my life. I would be divorced soon and I knew that my next step was to attend the funeral that Chloe's mother was putting together for Chloe.

The minute I excepted that in my brain. I had to pull over on the side of the road. I sat there and cried. I'm so sorry Chloe. I don't know what else to do? I said to myself. It's been over a year and I need to move on now. I said. After being there for about twenty minutes. I got back on the road and headed back to my shop. I had Tim tonight and I wanted to show him our new home. I also need to head out to the next town to pick up parts for Joeys car. She made me smile some to think about her. I actually couldn't wait to take her out. I needed to be strong and start my life. For myself and for my son. I didn't want to spend the rest of my life searching and that killed me to say, But my son needed to come first and I needed the change.
