Chapter 19

Hunters POV,

"This has been a great couple of months don't you think?" Joey asked me as we laid together in the grass on our blanket.

"Yeah, it's been real nice." I said.

"She is still on your mind isn't she?" Joey asked. I rolled over onto my side and looked at Joey.

"I'm sorry, but no I wasn't thinking about her." I said. At least not at that moment. "I can't help that she drifts into my head now and again. I warned you in the beginning." I said. I never meant to hurt Joey in any way. I don't mean to hurt her now. The first month we were together I told Joey everything about Chloe. I gave her the choice to either except what I was going though or turn her back at that moment. She chose to stay with me. The one thing I wasn't sure about was how I kept Joey at bay. Its been about four months now and things are going good with us. We have taken things very slow. In most parts because of me. I keep going though moments where I fell so guilty and I push Joey away. I'm surprised she hasn't left me yet, but she keeps holding on.

My son Tim really likes Joey. Ever since Tracy signed the divorce papers. I've had Tim more then she has. She is always dumping him off with me when its her time to be with him. I don't know what she has been up to and I do my best to stay out of it. Tim spilled the beans to Tracy about Joey and Tracy showed up here drunk and talking crazy. She wanted to know why I replaced her so fast. Or why I replaced Chloe so fast. It was a huge mess. She even tried to threaten me with Tim. I had to set her straight. She also confronted Joey at her job one night and scared the shit out of her. Joey almost called the police. It's been a bit of a mess, but Joey has still stayed.

I care a lot about Joey, but I don't love her. At least I don't love her yet. My heart still belongs to Chloe. I know its been almost two years. I know its crazy, trust me I do, but I can't change that I feel this way. I do my best to keep my feelings hidden away. I'm hoping over time that I will feel this strongly for someone and I'm able to completely move on. For now this is all I can offer.

"I've got to work a couple of hours today, but what do you and Tim want for dinner tonight?" Joey asked me.

"Actually tonight Tim and I have plans with Mrs. Banderfield.' I said. Every once in a while I go over to Chloe's mothers for dinner. She enjoys seeing Tim and I and we enjoy seeing her. Chloe's mother is actually doing good. She is seeing a very nice gentleman. Of course he had to get my approval. Well, not that it mattered, but I still checked him out. He is a very nice man and he is good to her.

"Oh okay, I can just catch up on some work tonight. You two have a good time." She said. I could see the hurt in her eyes, but she did her best to hide it. I hated all of this, I really did.

"I'm sorry Joey." I said. I always found myself apologizing to her.

"I told you over and over again to stop apologizing. Really Hunter I'm okay. If I was upset I wouldn't still be here." She said. I reached my hand over and pulled her close to me.

"I'm a lucky guy to have found someone like you." I said in her ear. She took a deep breath. "Why don't you join us tonight?" O said. I've never asked Joey to join me for dinner at Chloe's mother house before. I've always treated it like it was my special thing and it was only for me. I know that Chloe's mother would love to meet Joey.

"Really?" Joey said.

"Yeah, I think it would be a great idea. Her mother has always been like a mother to me. She is my family and I think it would be good for you to meet her, because she will always be in my life." I said. A big smile spread across Joeys face.

"I would love to Hunter." She said. I smiled back at her.

"I go over there at six. I can pick you up from your place at five thirty." I told her. Later on that night I was getting Tim dressed.

"Are we going to g mas house tonight?" Tim asked me. I nodded at him. Tim really loves going to Chloe's mothers. She loves him we think he started to call her g ma because I'm always calling her mom.

"We have to pick up Joey first. She is joining us tonight." I told him. We finished getting ready and hoped into the truck to go get joey. She was wearing a cute little blue summer dress. She looked beautiful. I watched her walk up to the truck. Joey and I still haven't had sex. It's not been her choice, its been mine. Sex always complicates things and I wanted to take things slow. It hasn't been easy. I think most of my problem is when things start to get heavy between us. My damn brain dose right to Chloe and I end up stopping it. I never tell Joey that's the reason. I still try to hide it the best I can. I'm still amazed that she is still here. Trust me its not like I don't think Joey is hot, because I do. I took a deep breath as she climbed into the truck. "Hello beautiful." I said to her.

"Hello gorgeous." she said back. She reached over and kissed my cheek. She smelt amazing. " Thank you Hunter." She said. I looked over at her.

"For what?" I asked.

"For bring me tonight and sharing this with me. I feel like this is a big step for us and I appreciate it." She said. I just smiled at her and headed out. I had let Chloe's mother know I was bring Joey and she was happy to meet her. I knew this wasn't going to be a problem. She has been worrying about for the longest time and all she wanted was to see me happy. She is such a great woman.

We pulled up in front of the house and we all stepped out of the truck. Tim took of running for the front door as I took Joeys hand and followed. Tim never knocks and just ran right inside the house. I heard him yell g ma. Then Chloe's mother came into view with Tim in her arms. She smiled up at us.

"Well Hunter this beautiful lady must be Joey. She is very pretty." She said. Joey smiled at her and took her hand.

"Thank you for having me over."Joey said. She sat Tim down and wrapped her arms around me. I hugged her back.

"Come on you guys. I've got spaghetti and salad for everyone." She said. We followed her inside and went into the kitchen. I saw Joey looking around the house. I forgotten how many pictures of Chloe and I that were around this house. Most of them were of us as kids. Joey walked over and picked one of them up. I walked over to her. It was a picture of Chloe and I when we were fifteen. We were arm and arm sitting on the porch.

"Is this Chloe?" She asked me.

"Yes, we were only fifteen there. That was before, in that picture we were just best friends."I said.

"She is very pretty."Joey said. I walked over to a different picture. It was a picture I took of her while she was watching the ocean.

"This is her now." I said, Joey walked over and took the picture from me.

"Wow, Hunter she is beautiful." Joey said.

"Yes she is." I said. Joey looked at me. I cleared my throat. "Come on let's join them in the kitchen. I took the picture form Joey and set it back down. Joey just smiled at me. Richard joined us for dinner. We all ate and talked and had a great time. Tim had fallen asleep on the couch. The rest of us were having a glass of wine on the back porch. Joey and Chloe's mother were getting along great.

"Why don't you two go for a walk on the beach. The weather is beautiful tonight." Chloe's mother said to Joey and I.

"But Tim." I started to say.

"He is sleeping Hunter. He will be just fine. go you two." She said. I took Joeys hand and we walked off.

"Thank you Hunter I had a wonderful time tonight. Her mother is very lovely."Joey said. I stopped and took my shoes off and rolled up my pant legs. Joey slipped her shoes off. We started to walk close to the water so it went over our feet every time it came in.

"I need to talk to you." I said. Joey looked up at me.

"Okay, talk." She said.

"I know you hate it when I apologize to you all the time, but I need for you to hear me out. I really appreciate you Joey, I really do. You have been wonderful and patient with me. I'm still struggling with Chloe being gone and no matter what I do to move on. I seem to have a hard time with it." I said.

"But that's understandable Hunter. She was the love of your life and then she was suddenly taken from you. No one just moves on from something like that." She said. I turned to face Joey, She always knew the right thing to say to me. I pulled her close to me and kissed her lips gently. She wrapped her arms around my neck and made the kiss deeper. My arms went around her waist and I pulled her even closer to me. I wanted her badly and I realized she was the only thing on my mind.

I found the zipper on the back of her dress and pulled it down. She stopped and looked at me for a moment. I studied her, waiting for her to say something. Instead she went right for my pants. It took two seconds before we were both naked. I picked her up in my arms and laid her down in the sand. We were both kissing feverishly. Our hands were everywhere and the water was rushing over us. We didn't seem to care. All we cared about at that moment was each other. I knew things were going to start getting better.
